  1. jandel gustave has been activated from the special covid-19 injured list and has returned to the 40-man roster. he is now on the 28-man roster.
  2. hoby milner has been optioned to class aaa nashville.
  3. miguel sánchez has been recalled from class aaa nashville.
  4. i'm trying to determine . . . is hunter strickland eligible for free agency after the conclusion of the 2021 world series, or do the brewers control his rights for one more year?
  5. the brewers expect to place justin topa on the injured list.
  6. right elbow discomfort for justin topa led to his exit from tonight's game.
  7. for the past three days, tyrone taylor has been hitting, and has been running the bases and playing catch.
  8. freddy peralta has been activated from the 10-day injured list.
  9. the brewers have placed kolten wong on the paternity list.
  10. eduardo escobar has been activated from the 10-day injured list.
  11. after being recalled yesterday, alec bettinger has been optioned to class aaa nashville.
  12. freddy peralta threw 50 - 60 pitches in his last bullpen session, so he should be expected to go at least that deep in tonight's game.
  13. for those who may have missed it, kolten wong and his wife are expecting their first child. he may go on paternity leave as soon as today.
  14. the brewers were planning on pushing back brett anderson's next start prior to him being struck by the batted ball. they've talked about an expectation of around 100 innings, and he was on track to blow past that if he kept his regular turn in the rotation. thus, the injured list, which allowed them to recall a fresh arm.
  15. my post above was from 18 june. since then, only one team has joined the ranks of at least 85% of tier 1 personnel fully vaccinated. the holdouts still: arizona diamondbacks boston red sox chicago cubs kansas city royals new york mets philadelphia phillies seattle mariners for the sake of the brewers, i hope the teams lacking shots don't have a shot to make it into the postseason.
  16. it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that barring injury, justin topa's stay with the club was destined to be brief. given brett anderson's early exit last night, one has to wonder if the brewers plan to shuttle a pitcher from nashville just to get a fresh arm for today's game in advance of freddy peralta's activation on friday. dylan file pitched six innings yesterday, so he's out. alec bettinger last pitched 24 august, so he's fresh. miguel sánchez and eric yardley are eligible to be recalled. jandel gustave could be reinstated from the covid-19 list, although a corresponding move would be required on the 40-man. all players i've suggested can be optioned when peralta needs to be activated. i wouldn't be surprised to see bettinger recalled for today's game. he can eat innings if necessary. as a bonus, if he doesn't appear in the finale in san francisco, he could be the long relief option on friday if freddy peralta falters, and the club could option hoby milner instead.
  17. brett anderson left tonight's game with a left shoulder contusion.
  18. luke maile has been recalled from class aaa nashville.
  19. daniel vogelbach has been activated from the 60-day injured list and has returned to the 40-man roster. to make room on the 40-man, angel perdomo has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. the roster is at 40 players, with one player on the covid-19 injured list.
  20. also to note, in 2018, after playing game 163 to advance to the nlds, the brewers had two off days (not four like they will this year) before starting their best-of-five series with colorado. that roster had 11 pitchers (44%) and 14 position players (56%). they used only 8 of the 11 pitchers, but all 14 position players in the series. granted, they only played three of potential five games, but the club had no way of knowing they'd sweep when constructing their nlds roster.
  21. and also, any player in the organization by 31 august is eligible for postseason play. let's get to that deadline first, and then maybe start making predictions. yeah, it's pretty safe to assume that the brewers won't be in a wild card game, and instead, will be in a best-of-five division series. important to note as you make your predictions for a 26-man roster for the national league division series after you brush up on these rules: game 162 is sunday 3 october game 1 of nlds is friday 8 october game 2 is saturday 9 october sunday 10 october is an off day game 3 is monday 11 october game 4 (if necessary) is tuesday 12 october game 5 (if necessary) is after an off day: thursday 14 october game 1 of nlcs is saturday 16 october
