  1. don't forget that the brewers have added four players on minor league assignment to the club player pool since initially announcing their alternate training site roster.
  2. make that 57 players in the cpp, once ss eduardo garcia clears intake.
  3. have we reached the date where every player who has spent all of 2020 optioned to the alternate training site has burned his option? asking for angel perdomo.
  4. angel perdomo is activated from the special covid-19 injured list and recalled, adding him back to the club player pool. ray black has been transferred to the 45-day injured list, removing him from the cpp. assuming that alec bettinger has cleared intake, the cpp is at 56.
  5. drew rasmussen has his contract selected and is added to the 40-man roster. he has three minor league options remaining. angel perdomo is activated from the special covid-19 injured list, added back to the player pool and the 40-man roster. he may be on the cusp of having just burned his first option. eric lauer optioned to the alternate training site in grand chute. he entered 2020 with three options. ray black is transferred to the 45-day injured list, removing him from the 40-man. the roster is at 40, with no players on the special covid-19 injured list.
  6. ray black has been transferred to the 45-day injured list, which removes him from the 40-man roster and the 60-man club player pool.
  7. as expected, justin grimm has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a callus laceration. it is notable, because this guarantees him six years of service time.
  8. drew rasmussen has his contract selected and is added to the 40-man roster. he has three minor league options remaining. angel perdomo is activated from the special covid-19 injured list, added back to the player pool and the 40-man roster. he may be on the cusp of having just burned his first option. eric lauer optioned to the alternate training site in grand chute. he entered 2020 with three options. justin grimm placed on the 10-day injured list.
  9. ryan braun has been activated. mark mathias optioned to the alternate training site in grand chute.
  10. luis urias is activated from the special covid-19 injured list, adding him back to the 40-man roster. logan morrison is designated for assignment. the club has seven days to trade him, release him or try to outright him to the minors (he has enough service time to refuse the outright assignment to the alternate training site in grand chute if no other team claims him). the roster is at 39, with one player on the special covid-19 injured list.
  11. luis urias has been reinstated from the special covid-19 injured list and now counts against the 60-man limit of the cpp. logan morrison designated for assignment, which removes him from the cpp, unless he accepts an outright assignment to alternate training camp in grand chute. assuming that alec bettinger has cleared intake, the cpp is at 56.
  12. minor league players with six years of minor league service entering 2020 spring training who were expecting to be eligible for free agency after 2020 can become free agents if not added to the 40-man roster.
  13. this is a public service announcement to remind you of a guy you may have forgotten about. justin grimm is still on the 28-man roster, and is nearing reaching six years of service time. he has appeared in only one game for the club, on 26 july.
  14. no. any player who wanted to opt back in to his team's club player pool had to do so by 1 august. i believe that it's possible, however, if that player were released from his contract and became a free agent, that he would be eligible to sign with any other team and be added to their cpp. and from what i've gathered, i'm pretty sure that if the brewers traded cain (players on the restricted list can be assigned to another club via an approved transaction), he could join that new team's cpp. we know that clubs may only trade players in their cpp, but we also know that a player who spent time in his team's cpp but was later removed was allowed to be traded and assigned to his new team's cpp. but, i'm not certain on this possibility. but, i say with certainty that cain cannot return to playing for the brewers in 2020. he is done. he is forfeiting salary and service time with his decision.
  15. a 29th man will be allowed for doubleheaders.
  16. who can then be replaced with a pinch runner. yes, it pulls that guy from the game, and may require another defensive replacement, but a speedy pinch runner gives the brewers an advantage in scoring that run. don't forget, we've been used to the brewers winning games with mostly a 25-man roster. this will be a 28-man roster, with new rules in place to limit pitcher overload (extra innings rule and 7-inning doubleheaders).
  17. there won't be a taxi squad in chicago.
  18. it's only a two-game road trip, and it's in chicago . . . will the brewers bring up to five players from the ats as part of taxi squad 2.0? looking at taxi squad 1.0 . . . --ryon healy is on the active roster --shelby miller is on the restricted list, having opted out for the season --jacob nottingham is optional assignment at grand chute and can be permitted to be on the taxi squad
  19. it appears that rhp alec bettinger will be added to the cpp. once he clears intake, the cpp will be at 56.
  20. the brewers thought highly enough of keon broxton to include him on the 2018 nlds roster. knowing that rosters can remain at 28, including the postseason, i think there's a good chance that they add him at some point. he is easier to bury as the 28th man once pitchers are more stretched out, and is great to have as a late-inning defensive replacement or as a pinch runner (especially in extra innings with the automatic runner at second).
  21. ray black just started throwing again this week, later than expected. could be a candidate to be transferred to the 45-day injured list if space is needed on the 40-man or 60-man cpp.
  22. with reports that rosters will be allowed to remain at 28 starting thursday, and that clubs may carry up to five players on their taxi squad while on the road, consider this: the brewers' cpp is at 55. 28 guys on the active roster, leaves 27 guys in the cpp. a couple of the guys in the cpp are inactive because of baseball-related injuries (let's assume ray black and ryan braun for now). that leaves 25 guys able to play at the ats. 5 are taken away from grand chute for road trips, leaving 20 guys at the ats. i'm too lazy to draw up a depth chart, but can you see how it could get challenging to run intrasquad scrimmages in grand chute--especially if a number of position players or stretched out pitchers are taken away for the taxi squad? it should be noted that both angel perdomo and luis urias have been working out in grand chute, although they are technically not counting against the cpp limit of 60 players, nor were they included in the assessment listed above. and we should also note that the brewers could add more players to the cpp.
  23. taxi squads are expanding from three players to five for the rest of the season.
  24. it appears that roster sizes will be trimmed to 28 on thursday, but remain at that level for the rest of the season and the postseason. originally, rosters were going to be trimmed to 26 on 20 august and kept at 26 all the way--even into the postseason.
  25. rosters are supposed to pare down to 28 on thursday. negotiations are still going on to extend the use of 30-man rosters.
