  1. given that tyler saladino is likely lost for the season from an injury sustained while on optional assignment, it's very likely that he will be designated for assignment before 31 august to make room on the 40-man roster for another player. the brewers could opt to recall saladino and then place him on the 60-day injured list in order to open up a spot on the 40-man, but in doing so, he would accrue major league pay and service time. given that he, hernan perez and cory spangenberg are all out of options in 2020, it's quite likely that saladino's days in the brewers organization are coming to an end.
  2. ben gamel will very likely be recalled before he hits 20 days optioned. if this happens, he doesn't burn his option, and he is credited with a full season of major league service.

  5. of note for spangenberg . . . 28 stolen bases is his second highest single-season total at the professional level, and he's had an 87.5% success rate.

  8. cory spangenberg has his contract selected from class aaa san antonio and is added to the active roster. ben gamel has been optioned to san antonio. if gamel spends less than 20 days optioned, he will not burn his 2019 option. gamel must spend at least 10 days optioned, unless replacing an injured player. spangenberg will enter 2020 spring training with no minor league options remaining. to make room on the 40-man roster, joulys chacin was designated for assignment. the club has seven days to release chacin or try to outright him to the minor leagues. chacin has enough service time to refuse the minor league assignment if he goes unclaimed and can become a free agent. the 40-man roster remains at capacity.

  14. jimmy nelson threw 3.0 innings today for the missions. he allowed no baserunners and struck out five.
  15. I see him DFA'd immediately after the game. They have a need for spots on the 40 man roster and losing Wilkerson won't be any loss. it's more likely that he will be optioned. the brewers only have three pitchers on the 40-man right now who can be recalled without an injury to another player: corbin burnes, trey supak and taylor williams. jake faria has to stay down for at least five more days. we now know that corbin burnes has likely been unavailable for recall as he's been sent to the brewers' pitching lab. this helps explain why wilkerson still has a 40-man spot, as jake faria has still yet to meet the requisite 10-day stay in the minor leagues.
  16. zach davies has been activated from the injured list. aaron wilkerson has been optioned to class aaa san antonio.
  17. the brewers just have too many pitchers on the disabled list to risk removing wilkerson from the roster at this point in order to add a position player to the 40-man. couple that with the fact that the additions of trent grisham and hernan perez came at the expense of removing two pitchers from the 40-man roster. maybe we'll never know whose fate(s) were spared on sunday.
  18. so, the brewers had plans to select his contract and activate cory spangenberg yesterday, but didn't. spangenberg had flown to washington on saturday. the extra-inning marathon likely nixed those plans. with a day off in each of the next two weeks before roster expansion, who would've been cut from the 25-man, and what would the corresponding 40-man move been? would the brewers have stuck with a 13-man pitching staff? i'm thinking the brewers intended to keep a 13-man staff, and planned to option orlando arcia, knowing that his option wouldn't be burned if they recalled him within 19 days during september roster expansion, and one of tyler saladino, troy stokes, jr. or tyrone taylor designated for assignment. your thoughts?
  19. I see him DFA'd immediately after the game. 20. i haven't seen any confirmation of either player reporting yet. advantageous in that dca, iad and bwi all are within 45 - 60 minutes of nationals park.
  21. notable in that jackson was recalled today. if he stays with the club through september roster expansion, he would not burn that first option.
  22. no surprises that fresh bullpen arms have been recalled. jay jackson and aaron wilkerson recalled. ray black and freddy peralta optioned. important to note: if jay jackson is not optioned again in 2019, he will not burn his first minor league option, as he will not have spent 20 days optioned to the minor leagues (he has spent the majority of the season in the minors not on the club's 40-man roster). if freddy peralta spends less than 20 days optioned, he will not burn his option and will enter 2020 spring training with two minor league options remaining. peralta can easily meet the 10-day requisite stay and then be recalled when rosters can expand in september.
  23. or a major league signing feel free to add your thoughts to this thread . . .
  24. or, move the thread out of the major league forum to rumors and proposals, because it's not official.
