  1. You guys can't lose - if Gomez (or Yuni) screws up, you knew it would happen. If he doesn't - hey, go Brewers...
  2. Tony Plush feels it to be only sporting to offer up his AB to not run up the score!
  3. Depending on how long you are there, since it's August, grab an ultra-cheap flight to Edinburgh for a couple days. It's about an hour by plane and it's the single biggest arts, comedy and music festival on the planet at that time. Sure, Dublin has some great things to do, but Edinburgh in August is EPIC! Cheaper than Dublin too!
  4. I agree 100% with this. In the example of bunting to break up a no-hitter there are 2 things to consider. Don't want a bunt hit? Then throw out the guy running to 1st base. Plus, isn't the art of offense to do the thing your opponent would LEAST like you to do? Surely, affecting a pitcher's morale, and by definition, focus, can only be good in breaking his rhythm, since he's obviously in a groove up to that point. Short of putting someone off, illegally, you do whatever you can, within the rules of baseball, to help your team win. Even cricket doesn't have as many dumb anachronistic "gentleman's rules", and it's played by the English, for god's sake!
  5. Saying Manny Ramirez "retired" from Major League Baseball is a little like saying that Roman Polanski "retired" from making movies in the US.
  6. Keep doing everything you can to run up the score vs. the Cubs so that they realize they just don't have the hang of this baseball thing and wrap up the club! I'm only partly kidding! Here's what I don't understand - how is a lack of effort because of an "insurmountable lead" any different from a lack of effort in a game where you bet on the result? Rules: Either write 'em down or shut the hell up about interpretation of some mystical old school nonsense.
  7. Manny being Barry!
  8. Corey Hart is a tattooed maniac - ergo, not soft!
  9. My dad has pictures from a game where there was a keg at 2nd base! That keg was one of my favorite players growing up. Insert "more range than Betancourt" comments here!
  10. Difference there is that last time the bad OBP player was a douchenozzle and this time that's the solid player.
  11. The scoreboard is just so....mesmerizing. Its hugeness makes you sometimes forget there's a ballgame going on. On days like today that will prove to be a good thing. It was a pitcher's duel for sure, but pretty dull at that. The, well, silence, greeting certain players for the opening intros and at each AB were freaky, however!
  12. There is absolutely ZERO chance of the NL Central winner needing 95 games to win the division. The number of games we play against each other, and the fact that there's not much to separate the top 4 (hell, the Pirates will probably play spoiler a fair bit too) means that I'll put money on the winner of the division not even breaking 90 games.
  13. yeah, the whole series unless you count 8 of the 9 innings on Thursday. Jeez - enough with the hyperbole, where it just isn't true...
  14. Something's not right with Marcum - he's a way better pitcher than this. The predictable knee-jerk reactions don't surprise me, however.
  15. Brewers win 86-76 and take the division on the last game over the Cubs. Cards can't take the loss of Waino and the inevitable breakdown of Carp and Big Puma. Reds lose every pitcher at some point for a few games for the niggliest of things. Pirates and Astros are horrible, but manage to win often enough against division rivals just to slow the rest down, and the surprising Cubs sneak up on everyone and almost clinch the division with great years from Garza, Cashner and a bounceback year from Crazy Carlos. Crew 86-76 Cubs 85-77 Reds 82-80 Cards 80-82 Astros 73-89 Bucs 69-93 Then we lose to the Phillies (probably) and ruin any chance of a WI Superbowl/World Series two-fer.
  16. It's good to know that pretty much everybody thinks Betancourt and Kotsay suck. If they don't suck it'll be easy to spot those posters who are full of it during the season by their "I always suspected they'd do well" posts! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Better: Pujols Votto Cabrera Teixeira (defense is important too!) Same: Howard Gonzalez Dunn Morneau Worse: Pretty much everyone else
  18. Practice shouting "You da man"! or "Get in the hole"! really loudly, in case the $+%%@@$#% who normally shouts it doesn't show.
  19. No shot? Really? Okay, he maybe surpassed as all time saves leader by then and will only be number two on the list, but if you seriously believe he has no shot, I'll take that bet!
  20. Having predicted Hart for a big year last year, my chances of back to back predictions are not high! That said, I firmly believe this year will be the year that Carlos Gomez gets it, gets his role and focuses on being the exciting guy I believe he can be. I'm sure someone on the coaching staff will have said, "look, we lost Escobar, so we need you to be the speed guy. We have HR hitters so stop swinging for the fences". As for disappointments, the easy target is Betancourt, but my bar for him is set low enough that to disappoint, he'd basically have to hit lower than...well, me! I'm afraid I have a hunch that this will be a big down year for Randy Wolf. I hope I'm wrong - I want everyone to have career years!
  21. Surely Trevor has to be as close to a first ballot lock to be in the Hall of Fame as it gets, doesn't he?
  22. Chris - you'll always be thought of fondly here at Brewer Nation. You know there will be an injury or two, so your wish to start could still be with the Brewers. I hope you stay healthy and productive wherever you end up. Please, though, not the Cubs!
  23. Just 2? Macha, Marcum, Greinke, and Saito for a start!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. "Sy-ee-toe" would be the pronunciation going by general Japanese linguistic rules, but since Schroeder becomes ShRAYder here in Wisconsin, I'm sure we can mangle it a little! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
