  1. You nailed it. I was at Wrigley for the Bush debacle a couple weeks ago and the guy behind me kept referring to the Cubs CF as Felix PYE, as in apple pie. And, no, he wasn't being cute...
  2. I don't watch either. FSN Final Score looks like it was put together by interns not yet qualified to do the crappy production job that FSN Wisconsin is currently serving us. SC has too many of the sports I hate in basketball, hockey and the "Driving With The Wheel Turned To The Left For 4 hours" championships. Baseball Tonight is the one for me.......unless Berman's on, in which case I find an excuse to rearrange my sock drawer or alphabetize some DVDs. How the hell that man still has a job is beyond me.
  3. Beloved Former Brewers Jeff Cirillo Carlos Lee Richie Sexson Matty Wise and at number one! Brooks Kieschnick Hated Former Brewers Well, hate is something I try to keep out of my life - it screws with your positivity. However, I have a hateful fury that burns like a thousand suns for El Primo Jag Bag Gary Sheffield. Every trip to the DL, every 0-fer and every link to steroids fills me with a warm glow in my gut that I don't get for any other player.
  4. Shovelling Snow!
  5. Oh for goodness sake, it's not like selling secrets to the enemy. Unless she knows the secret of how to make women's basketball, or any basketball, come to think of it, remotely compelling to me. That'd be worth something, I think...
  6. I'm probably the only one on the board with this list. Golf Soccer Rugby Cricket Squash Bowling Badminton Poker (ESPN says it's a sport!)
  7. I went to school with a guy named Troy Ingalls (he wasn't square!). My wife's class contained a Dick Paradise, and my stepson had twin sisters named Tequila and Margarita in his grade school class!
  8. Never mind it being more comfortable for Brewer fans (which it was), the Brewers players also agreed they preferred the conditions to those in Chicago the day before. Having been in Wrigley yesterday, I know how they feel. Out of the sun it was very very cold, even in multiple layers and a stocking cap. Baseball is meant to be a summer sport - 40 degrees is not summer weather, so if the closed roof makes it 65 and the players are also more comfortable, I say close away. The masochists can watch the game on TV with their feet in an ice bath.
  9. I love the Cubs. Oh, wait a minute, it's not the 1st anymore. Nevermind. I have a soft spot for the Indians and Braves and whoever is playing the Cubs.
  10. I bumped into Sheets coming out of TGI Fridays in Brookfield. He held the door open for my wife, who commented on the polite southern gentleman calling her ma'am. She's not much of a baseball fan...
  11. And I wonder, if the parents had held some sort of unsuccessful occult ceremony to cure her, if they would have been treated differently by the authorities. I'm guessing, "yes they would".
  12. Had it actually been true, how many of us would still have logged in several times a day "just in case"? Thought so. Me too!
  13. Grandaddy, "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot", apparently. Who knew?
  14. All I know is that, fundamentally, TGJ yesterday had hits when nobody else could figure out Z, caught the balls he should have caught (and one that was more difficult), stole a base, laid down a textbook bunt and brought the man in from 3rd on a sac fly. If every other player on this team is as sound all season, we'll have a good year. And as for the "duckfart" nature of his hits, until they start awarding style points, I'll take 'em any way I get 'em. I was questioned in a recent post about why I thought TGJ was on the bubble between love/hate. This thread kinda proves the polarizing nature here at Brewerfan.
  15. It just goes to show that jags are everywhere, we have to deal with it. I'm looking forward to going to Wrigley on Thursday, but in a million years I'd never dream of going with the express intention of talking smack to the Cubs fans. I'd deserve the warm cup of Old Style thrown at me.
  16. With all the snow we've had, i couldn't have made it through without some warming Cream O' Wheat - Maple flavor, of course!
  17. Of those mentioned, I'm in the Field of Dreams, Shawshank camp also. I'll add two that are similar, yet very different. In Spartacus when Jean Simmons holds up Spartacus' son, while Spartacus is being crucified, I'm a mess. In Gladiator, when the dying Maximus starts to have visions of his dead wife and son and that he will soon be reunited with them, accompanied by that incredible Lisa Gerrard vocal. Does me every time. After losing my dad last year, I find I'm adding to this list more frequently. Dad/son stuff I guess...
  18. Get whatever Tiger Woods has. They obviously work the best, since he wins everything!
  19. Stabbing needles in my eyes while listening to Nickelback >>>>>>>>> Bucks
  20. If you have a belief in God, wouldn't you believe that God provided the medical knowledge to treat diseases with drugs? There's a story of a man trapped on his roof by terrible floods who, thanks to his faith, believes God will save him. A helicopter arrives and the man sends it away, saying "I have faith God will save me". This happens twice more and the man eventually is swallowed by flood waters and drowns. When he is standing at the pearly gates he cries out "Lord, why did you forsake me?", to which God replies, "who the heck did you think was sending all the helicopters?"....... That's like this, only more tragic. I'll leave it at that - I'm really angry about all these sorts of cases and I'd violate several board rules saying what I really think...
  21. Listen, people, we've had Trent Durrington and Ben Grieve as 25th guy before, so a month of Kapler (platooned) before Cameron comes back is not gonna get my undies in a bundle...
  22. AL WEST 1. Angels 2. Mariners 3. Rangers 4. A's The Angels should have enough depth, even with Escobar and Lackey missing from the rotation to take the AL West. The M's have decent pitching, but unless Wilkerson and Big Sexy step up and have great years, I just don't see enough offense for them. The Rangers could ride Josh Hamilton to a better record than their team deserves, especially if Hank Blalock has a bounceback year like I expect. The A's are in fire sale mode, so who knows what the heck they will look like come September. It won't be as cut and dried as everyone thinks, I believe. AL CENTRAL 1. Tigers 2. Indians 3. White Sox 4. Royals 5. Twins This is the Tigers year, for me. With that Murderer's Row of an offense, who cares that their bullpen sucks? They'll have a few leads big enough to withstand that, and the pitching isn't exactly chopped liver. I'm predicting one 20 game winner and two 16 game winners for the Tigers. The Tribe, while good, should be in the hunt all year, but I think it's WC all the way for them. The others will finish some distance away, but could feasibly all swap places within about a game or two of each other. KC could be the real shock here. Meche, Bannister and Greinke isn't a bad 1-2-3 by anyone's standards and I'm seeing big years for Teahen, Butler and team MVP Gordon. AL EAST 1. Red Sox 2. Rays 3. Blue Jays 4. Yankees 5. Orioles Yup, Yanks in 4th place - who'da thunk it? Not even the last season in Yankees stadium can save them. A-Rod will have, for him, a down year. This will also be the year that the downward momentum for Matsui, Rivera, Giambi, Damon and Abreu starts to really kick in. Sure, every year they find ways to win - not this year. The young, hungry talented Rays will get close to but won't catch the Sox and the Jays will have a healthy Vernon Wells and an 18 game winner in McGowan, I think. As for the O's, only an MVP caliber season from Nick The Stick will give them anything to cheer. Roberts will end up with the Cubs by midseason when the Chicago media is baying for success after the traditional slow start, and everyone in the competitive AL East will take them behind the woodshed. AL WILD CARD: Indians AL CY YOUNG: James Shields (Rays) AL MVP: Miggy Cabrera (Tigers) NL WEST 1. Diamondbacks 2. Rockies 3. Padres 4. Dodgers 5. Giants Dodgers, Schmodgers. Every year they get the sexy votes, and every year they underachieve. They are like the Cubs of the West. They'll underuse good players at the expense of vets that don't deserve it and Andruw Jones won't bounce back like everyone expects. The DBacks are for real, they added to an already decent rotation with Haren, and they'll get better years out of Drew and Chris Snyder (who'll become one of the best MLB catchers in the process). The Rockies problem is their pitching. I don't think Jimenez is as good as last season hinted and they need Hirsch back sooner rather than later. The Pads pitching is strong, but I'm not sold on their offense, and as for the Giants...now that Barry's gone, will anyone care that they win 60 games (thanks to Lincecum and Cain. Zito, not so much)? NL CENTRAL 1. Brewers 2. Reds 3. Cubs 4. Astros 5. Pirates 6. Cards So I'm a homer, sue me. I honestly believe the Crew has enough to win the division. It won't be pretty, the vent threads will explode at some points, but I just think we have the tools to get the job done. Weeks, Cameron, Fielder, Braun, Hart, Hall - that's a 1-6 that rivals the Tigers IMO. Fast, powerful and intimidating. If the starting pitching can stay even mostly healthy (any 5 from 6 at a given time), I'm sure we can do it. The Reds will depend on Dusty. He surprised me by giving Cueto and Volquez roster spots over guys like Belisle, so maybe he does have a brain. Votto should be a beast, Hopper, Bruce, Keppinger will all breakout, so 2nd place it is. The Cubs start the year with both Dempster and Marquis in the rotation. 'Nuff said. They're just not the worldbeaters they like to think they are. A midseason trade for Roberts will deplete the farm even more, but it won't be enough. The Astros can hit, but, aside from a regressing Oswalt, can't pitch worth a lick. The Pirates will do better than some think, indeed they'll relegate the sorry Cards to last place when Pujols gets shut down at the AS break to have his surgery. NL EAST 1. Mets 2. Braves 3. Phillies 4. Marlins 5. Nats Apparently all the Mets have to do is show up and the NL East is theirs. Not so fast, Cochise. I think the Braves will have a very nice (but not quite nice enough) year taking the Mets all the way. Tex will be his usual self (especially in a contract year), Francouer's ever improving plate discipline will translate to a .300, 30 homer year, and Matt Diaz and Jair Jurrjens will also exceed expectations I think. The Phillies won't do as well as 2007. Lidge will be in and out, screwing up the bullpen, and any team that thinks Adam Eaton is a good pitcher won't do well. The Nats will lose a lot of games 10-9 with their decent offense and terrible pitching, and the Marlins will be fun to watch for the 7 tourists who took a wrong turn on their way to Universal Studios. Neither will post winning seasons, but both will be better than the Cards and Giants. NL WILDCARD: Braves NL CY YOUNG: Webb, just from Santana NL MVP: Braun AL CHAMPION: Tigers NL CHAMPION: Brewers WORLD SERIES CHAMPION: Tigers over Brewers in 6
  23. So when does the Crew get the proverbial Bag O' Balls then?
  24. I'm not crying in my beer about this analysis any more than I would be buying WS tickets if a magazine said we'd go all the way. They are just opinions, and we all know what they say about opinions...
