  1. Whatever else we disagree on here at BF.net, surely we can all agree that Jenks, for all his faults, leaves as a Brewers legend and a great teammate to all the (often dreck) players that filled the rosters during his tenure here.
  2. I purposely avoided all things cub just to spare myself this agony, then one of our own has to go and stick the knife in. Thanks.
  3. Jenks is a youngster in the eyes of the Giants! They'll probably haze him or have him shining Vizquel's shoes!
  4. Be prepared to be further disappointed, then. Willie Randolph might get his marching orders, but I can't see an 83-79 season being classed as failure in Mark A's eyes. And speaking of Randolph, his name came up a few times when Ned's replacements were being touted. I guess other managers aren't perfect either, huh?
  5. My little niece and nephews were wondering why I was getting all misty-eyed too. It feels like the end of an era. And the start of a whole new era at the same time.
  6. Who are we? http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e304/BigRedRobbo/googlewontsaveyou.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e304/BigRedRobbo/googlewontsaveyou2.jpg
  7. I'll be there, and I sincerely hope, to a man, that every single player on the roster is cheered and appreciated for a season that gave us hope for 160 games and removed the adjective "lowly" from prefacing the word "Brewers" for the first time among national media types. If Rodney Dangerfield were still alive, even he would agree that the Crew now gets some respect.
  8. Look on the bright side. It could have been "disco sucks" night!
  9. I love how the BBTN analysts are useless goats unless they are making points that back up certain posters' arguments. A lot of this collapse IMO is down to youth, pure and simple. The Indians were in the same position a couple of years ago (huge potential, younger manager, lots of kids) and couldn't get it done. Fast forward to 2007 and that extra experience for what is essentially the same core is rewarded with a playoff berth.
  10. Keanu Reeves in the Matrix....
  11. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e304/BigRedRobbo/DangerMouse.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e304/BigRedRobbo/howthewestwaswon.jpg Sorry - couldn't resist!
  12. Seems like? C'mon, there must be a metric for his level of understanding somewhere. At least that's what those of us who have an opinion that isn't based on raw data are told as it applies to our hated manager...
  13. And by "not" he means "not capable of". Not that it's ever likely to happen, but put me in the camp that wouldn't give another penny to the team I love if they signed the satellite-noggined, tiny-testicled #25. I'm hoping against hope that Jeff Borris can't find a buyer for Bonds and discovers what 15% of $0.00 comes to.
  14. It doesn't matter anymore what he did tonight. What about all the other times, huh? There'll always be the other times to cast up. That's why I now think Yost will be gone after the season - he's become a distraction. More negative energy is now being expended on the manager than positive energy directed at the team. Even a WS win won't save him in the eyes of the pundits - he's toast IMO.
  15. I will have to check them out. Heard of them, just never listened to them. Im looking forward to the new Foo Fighters on Tuesday. You won't be disappointed. It, at first couple of listens, is rather wonderful. I'll second a vote for Editors, even though the new album isn't as good as The Back Room from 2005. And if there are any fans of shoegaze/spacerock/drone rock, beg, steal or borrow a copy of the self-titled album by the English band The Early Years. They aren't getting anywhere near the hype of most of the Pitchfork crowd, but it will be one of my most played new albums by year's end.
  16. Any excitement at actually playing meaningful games in September is diminished by the broken-record braying that perpetuates most of this thread... At this stage, nobody is changing their mind and the evidence in both camps to support their opinions is becoming laughable. Man, we suck at success - we should go back to just sucking...
  17. At times like these, the Dude abides. "that's just, like, your opinion, man..."
  18. I'll be watching the Brewers live and reading about how many points the Packers lost by in the JS on Monday. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. The very best hitters in baseball fail 70% of the time yet managers need to be 100% or they are not doing their job? Sheesh...
  20. Halleluiah. At last the Pro and Anti side can be on the same page. I concede that going from Yost to a top tier manager probably wins a couple more games. The problem is a distinct lack of that top tier manager banging on Melvin's door looking for work. Kremblas? Yount? Cecil Cooper? Joe Girardi? Not exactly Sparky Anderson and Connie Mack, at this stage in their career. That's the issue I have with firing Yost now - change for change's sake? If the really honest haters were to admit that they just don't like the guy and never did, at least they'd stop trying to find any justification to back it up. If the Brewers don't make the playoffs I think Melvin will be too fearful of his own job to keep Yost on. Until then I'm going to "enjoy" that rarely felt phenomenon of a meaningful September.
  21. I don't know, the matchups really favor sitting Billy against Arroyo, but as a Reds killer in the past, I'd have liked to see his mojo out there.
  22. You still haven't really answered my question. I know you think spirit, unity, and a good clubhouse help win games. Just re-stating it doesn't really qualify as tangible evidence or reasoning. How and why do these things help a baseball team win more games? I would really like just one solid reason that shows some type of direct correlation between a good clubhouse and winning baseball games. There's countless studies, data, and facts that show baseball-related decisions have a direct impact on wins and losses, so I'll take sound strategy and logic over clubhouse unity anyday as a means to increase my team's chances of winning. Hey, if you don't have leg to stand on in the debate, just begin name calling and ad hominem responses. Nice. Good grief, back off with the self-righteousness for a minute or two. If you can find zero posts in the last month that include the words "season over" , "I'm done watching this team" or some similar defeatist phrase, then I'll admit to name calling, but we both know that's not gonna happen. And I apologize for there not being a sabermetric to qualify MY OPINION. I'd have thought the words "I think" might have given it away, but apparently in this debate it's hard stats or nothing... I'll turn it round for you. Why don't you come up with an exact number of games Yost's decisions have cost us and subtract that from the number of games his decisions may have helped win. By all the numbers the Marlins shouldn't have had a snowball's chance and yet they won it all in 03. Neither the Cards nor the Tigers last year were the "best" teams in the majors yet both attributed team spirit as being important in getting them to the WS. Maybe not everything has a numeric value... I'll say it again, if Yost was spelt Y-O-U-N-T we'd have considerably fewer threads asking for his head.
  23. Since nobody wants to win this flippin' division, spirit and unity is what'll do it. I think because of Yost and the coaching staff the Brewers have the tightest set of guys. That's why we'll win. That's one of the reasons I think he should stay. But, hey, it's not a popular stance among some of the knee-jerk bandwagonners we see here from time to time. Come back in a month. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. That's way more than I suspect a great number of the Fire Yost crowd will do...
  24. If the Brewers get to the playoffs, Yost will get the manager of the year vote (the Girardi Factor), and all the national pundits calling him out now will say they called it before the season started. For me, the conversation he had with Braun after the showboated HR stare showed more about his leadership than any bullpen move. I'm still of the opinion that he does more good than harm to this team. I still believe and I'm voting yay.
  25. He thought about it long and hard, considered 30%, but when he double-checked, the number he had pulled out of his ass was 40%. Doesn't get much more scientific than that, I think...
