  1. Saito seems like he may be a good option for the Crew to pursue. The Dodgers only offered him a 2 million dollar deal for next season. Saito has terrific numbers if he can stay healthy. I was thinking perhaps a 2 year deal in the range from 6-8 million? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7726
  2. Cameron is likely to be a B free agent, and we could probably retain him at less than ten mil in 2010, he was one of our better daily players last year. Any trade with the Yankees is a downgrade over what Cam will give us next year.
  3. this is how much suppan is worth.
  4. Looks like a good Hire. It looks like Jack Z will be successful in rebuilding the Mariners, and in the process, confirm brewerfan's nightmeres that he is indeed a better GM than DM.
  5. As long as he passed the Haudricourt litmus test I am cool with it.
  6. Overall i think a bad move, the Cubs are becoming the Yankees, what ever happened to developing their own talent? 4 at 52 is ridiculous for a 4th or 5th starter. Then again, look at what we gave Suppan.
  7. I agree that Shouse and Kapler are the most likely to return. I would like to see Sheets and Durham stay as well. I also think Mota will be back.
  8. I think Gregg will be an eighth inning guy, its time for Marmol.
  9. Holliday on the Cards? That would be the best 3-4 in baseball.
  10. I think this is a golden opportunityto get rid of Soup! Cameron Soup for Cabrera, 20 mill off the payrole.
  11. I wish the Milwaukee media would have asked more questions about what Macha plans to do rather than his tenous relations with past players. While I intially prefered both Brenley and Randolph, I think Macha will make our players play to their potential.
  12. Congrats to Jack Z, I am surprised they didn't go with Ng. Jack Z will have a true oppertunity to devlop a qualilty team in Seattle. Hopefully he can bring them back to their glory days of drafting KGJ, Arod, and Randy Johnson. This is a good sign for the Brewers despite the loss of Jack Z. Obviously we are doing things in a good manner and others are noticing. I am confident someone within the organization can do as well as Jack Z, perhaps even better.
  13. I think its important to look how the control of players is structured in baseball, the true tenor of sports equality. Sacrificing first and second round draft picks is an incredibly stiff penalty. Essentially FA signings are trades in baseball, completely foriegn to the NFL. Second, small market teams get to keep young talent for some of best years in baseball at the lowest prices. Money only gets you so much in baseball. Sure it would be great to resign CC and I believe the Brewers can afford it. However, small market teams did control him during his prime, for much less money than the Yankees will give him. Not to mention that the Crew will receive a 1st round pick in compensation, ideally continuing the small market team business cycle. In sum, smart teams, such as the Chicago Cubs trade for players such as Harden and then resign them without sacrificing draft picks.
  14. This is a good point. I often wonder if Cleveland should have hung onto CC because of the added value of the picks viz. the Brewer's package and the upturn of the tribe in the second half of the season.
  15. This forum needs to lay back on its never-ending quest to trade our best young players.
  16. I still can't get a good read of Mark A. Sometimes he seems completely clueless about baseball, spouting pro-brewer propaganda. His market based strategy in baseball seems to be paying off, I commend him for getting CC and firing Yost. I sometimes feel he is obsessed with the Brewers as his own little toy and wants the Brewer's to compete for his own personal pleasure.
  17. I don't think their contracts are all that high, Tejada, Lee, Oswalt, and Berkmen produce on the field. If you want to talk bad, high salary contracts, there is no need to look any further than Bill Hall and Jeff Suppan! I think the Astros will land Sheets this offseason. My cap is off to Cecil Cooper. I think the Astros may overtake us next year.
  18. Kendall(B)- Certainly helped our pitchers, why do players with respectable obs continue to faulter in Milwaukee? Fielder(A/B) - Defense sucks, but his bat is the cornerstone of the brewers offense. Weeks(D) - Continues to disappoint, Durham showed there are better options then him easily available. Hall(F) - If Derek Turnbow was a position player... Hardy(A-) - 2008 was Hardy's finest season. I feel he is getting confident at the plate. Braun(A/B) - Very concerned about his low OBP (as well as the whole teams) but came up with hits in the clutch Cameron(B) - I like Cam as a brewer, but for ten mil his offense is lacking Hart(C-) - ? Counsell (D) - What a waste. Durham (inc) - Its too bad he didn't start the whole season for the Crew, hopefully next year he will get a chance. Branyan (inc) - Great improvement over Hall when he was healthy, hope he is on the team next year. Kapler (B+) - Sadly we needed him most when he was hurt. Rivera (inc) - Ought to have started more games, at least for Kendall's sake. Pitchers Sabathia (A+) - We abused him, but he is the best baseball player to wear a brewer uniform in decades. Sheets (B-) - Sheets' injuries have hurt the brewers time and time again. Gallardo (inc) - Did not support his spot start in September Parra (B) - Showed upside, I felt he was a victim of Yost not understanding when to pull a SP. Suppan (F) - Biggest Brewer contract mistake ever. Bush (B+) - Think how much better his numbers of been had he not been Yosted. Villanueva (B+) - I wish we had a manger who understood pitchers, I still believe he underperformed, but future closer? Mota (B-) - Should of been a mid inning guy, not in the seventh or eiigth innings, not worth what we were paying him. Gagne (D-) - I actually think he will have a decent season next year Torres (A/B) - Sure he fell apart a bit at the end, but the Brewers should of known better with an elder closer. Stepped into the closer's role admirably, hope he is back, perhaps not as the closer though. McClung (B+) - Hope he returns to the team next year Shouse (B+) - The Hardy of our bullpen. Quiet, solid, year. Riske (F) - What a waste Coffey (inc) - I don't think we should give him a contract any higher then the minimum. I feel most of players are still under performing because of poor coaching on all sides of the game. Our lack of small ball, and low OBP concern me deeply.
  19. http://www.sportsbubbler....ayTopic.aspx?TopicID=2733 Our love/hate relationship with arbitration begins this year. I think the crew needs to consider not pick up cam's option, cutting Cappy and Council, letting Mota go simply because CC makes the difference if we contend for the playoffs each your or not. Just think how easier it would have been to resign CC if we hadn't done the Suppan signing! Without CC, I just don't see us competing for a playoff position. While next year I expect CC will have a down year (because of our abuse), I don't understand how posters think we can compete. I also think it is crazy that people are suggesting we trade Prince of Hardy, two of the three of our best offensive players. To be competitive as a small to mid size organization we need to keep guys through as many of the arby years as possible.
  20. Coffey may have been great for us, but looking at his track record I am quite skeptical.
  21. If the Brewers want to remain a playoff caliber team, CC is a must. With CC and Yo, at the top of our order, we will be competative for years to come. I would rather we pay up for quality instead of handing out 10 mil a year to quality b free agents such as suppan and gange. And secondly I would love to see the brewer's sign K-rod. He is one of the top closers in the game.
  22. Regularly, Big Lead Stew http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew brewerfan Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Occasionally Buster and Gammons I also check out other forums dodger blues north side son's of sam horn
  23. To be honest, I don't have much interest in the remaining teams. All the teams I enjoy following have been eliminated. Cubs v. Angels would have been a fantastic world series.
  24. I feel the crew will need to acquire another a true 2nd starter to keep the rotation playoff competitive, because the I think our offense will be better next year. 1 - Yovani 2 - ??? 3 - Bush 4 - Parra 5 - Suppan Cappy may also be an option.
  25. There is no way anyone would pick his contract up. Over the last two seasons opposing batters have batted .298 against him.
