  1. I really hope Jackson can play this week and maybe give 10-15 minutes off the bench. UW could use another good ball handler against UNC and it would allow Bo to spread out the minutes a bit more. I don't remember Brown ever getting in the game yesterday; I would have liked to see Bo steal him 2-3 minutes in each half to give Kaminsky a break. UNC plays fast too; Kaminsky just shouldn't be playing 38 minutes a game.
  2. Badgers really played like crap yesterday and still managed to get a W over a pretty solid, albeit flawed, Oregon team. They shot the 3 terribly and somehow let a much smaller Oregon team out-rebound them. Kaminsky specifically didn't play all that well. Glad to see Dekker step up and hit some big shots. Koenig was kind of off all late but also made some nice late drives. UW will absolutely have to play better against UNC and they do scare me a little. That being said; UNC is not a great 3 point shooting team and they are also not a great defensive team. If UW controls the pace and doesn't let UNC get a lot of transition baskets I think UW will advance. Arizona is looking pretty good right now; however they will have beaten a #15, #10, and #6 seed before possibly meeting up with UW. UW annihilated that OSU team Arizona let hang around for 30 minutes. If UW advances to the Elite 8 that will be another epic matchup.
  3. Go Ohio St I guess. They are going to get thrashed. I was really hoping Harvard was going to pull the upset of North Carolina. Pretty darn close. North Carolina's played pretty bad
  4. Really outside of Duke all the blue bloods that get the 5 Star talent will have the occasional down year as well. It wasn't to long ago that Kentucky missed the tourney altogether; hell last year they were only an 8 seed. Calipari just has an incredibly collection of talent this year and props to him for convincing all these young kids to go there knowing they won't get as many minutes and stats as somewhere else. Maybe some funny business is going on, maybe not.
  5. I really like Iowa St over Duke though; probably no rational reason for it. But I agree the 1-4 seeds in the West are so much harder than the east or south. Georgetown as a #4 is a joke and Utah has an early exit written all over them. Almost no one is even predicting Gtown to even win the opening round game. Also I am screwing it and putting Northern Iowa in the Final 4 from the west. I don't trust Virginia or Villanova enough and Oklahoma and Gtown in the 3/4 seeds have no chance of making it to Indy. Northern Iowa has as good of a shot as anyone.
  6. So my first bracket includes a Final 4 of Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa State, and Virginia. I am really struggling to pick the winner of the east regional. I don't like Villanova at all and Virginia has been less than impressive lately. I have thought about both Michigan State and Providence but I am having a hard time convincing myself that a 6 or 7 team can make it out. I was also considering Gonzaga in place of Iowa St; but I think Iowa St is the better team.
  7. My changes to your roster would be Out: Thornburg (AAA Starter) Henderson (Lack of velocity a concern) In: Matt Clark (Good power bat off of the bench; Lind back insurance & can probably play corner OF) Cotts (By default since he has a major league contract)
  8. If it ultimately came down to either UW in the West as a #1 or Midwest as a #2 I am glad how it turned out. If UW was going to be a #2 it almost surely would have been in the Midwest Region given the geography of the other 2 seeds. Maybe UW could have gone south with Gonzaga going Midwest and Kansas going west.
  9. My first opinion on the bracket is Kentucky has an absolute cake walk to the Final 4. Notre Dame might be the only team to have any chance. Purdue/Kentucky in the 2nd round would be mildly interesting since Purdue has such great size down low. There appears to be upset potential galore in the East and South brackets. There will be some popular 1st round upset picks in those regions and I think it is pretty likely neither #1 seed makes the Final 4. In the West, Baylor is more than capable of knocking or Arizona, but I don't know if I can pick them yet. Georgia State is a tough draw for Baylor in Round #1; they have some good talent on that team. North Carolina is the only team on the Top half of that bracket that I think can give Wisconsin a hard time. Even then I think UW would be a decent favorite. Wofford might give Arkansas a good run and BYU/Ole Miss can certainly beat an extremely mediocre Xavier who probably has no business being a #6.
  10. Cotts has kind of sucked; I wish he was just on a minor league contract so they wouldn't feel obligated to keep him. It sounds like Henderson is facing an uphill battle to make the bullpen too; he hasn't gotten the velocity back yet. I don't think there is any chance Melvin and RR are going to trust Thornburg enough to put him at the #5 spot and Nelson back at AAA. I simply don't think that is ever going to happen. He is either going to start in AAA or he will serve as the long man in Milwaukee
  11. Barring upsets; once you get to that 2nd weekend you are always playing good teams that could beat you. UNC is incredibly athletic but they also aren't a good shooting or defensive team. It would be a tough game for sure though. An Arizona matchup again obviously would be really tough; but I have a feeling someone is going to knock them off before the Elite 8.
  12. Not a huge fan of possibly playing AZ again, especially out West. Possibly playing Oregon again in the 2nd round is kind of lame too. Not a bad draw at all though. It might have a very similar feel to last year. I would count on playing North Carolina in the Sweet 16. Match up with Wisconsin kid Tokoto would be interesting
  13. Kind of an ugly start to the game but UW turned it on at the end of the half there. Winning by 5 despite pretty terrible 3 point shooting. They should be able to score at will inside against Michigan.
  14. The most logical thing to do what put the worst 2 with Kentucky but the NCAA has never been logical. If UW wins out and Virginia loses at some point; UW will very likely have a higher RPI, higher SOS, and more Top 50 wins. I think that would make it tough to keep them on the #1 line over Wisconsin. Pretty much the same exact thing can be said for Villanova. FSU and Marquette are getting crushed right now.
  15. UW also needs to cheer for Florida State against Virginia and NC State against Duke. NC State could happen but Florida State is pretty terrible. Losses by Arizona or Kansas wouldn't hurt either. UW plays the winner of Illinois and Michigan today; I don't really have a preference in that game. UW should be able to beat both teams but Michigan did give them a pretty good fight in Ann Arbor.
  16. I am a big Marquette fan today. They played a solid game yesterday and would love them to knock of Villanova.
  17. I am also of the belief that we exaggerate the issue because we watch the team every day. Basically every game played features at least one dumb base running mistake or dumb defensive mistake; I really don't think the Brewers make a exorbitant amount of mistakes compared to everyone else
  18. In taking a closer look at UW vs. Villanova vs. Virginia I was surprised how well UW matches up against Virginia. If UW sweeps through the B10 tourney they could leapfrog both of them even if they both win out. That is more likely with Villanova because they can't really improve the resume anymore. UW will certainly jump either team if they happen to lose. RPI UW 4 Virginia 6 Villanova 3 SOS UW 11 Virginia 22 Villanova 27 Top 50 record UW 8-2 (Oklahoma at #15 RPI is best win - With Maryland at #9 as a possibility) Virginia 8-2 (Maryland at #9 is best Win) Villanova 11-1 (Georgetown at #19 in RPI is best win, won't improve on that in BE tourney) UW also has 6 wins over teams in the 51-60 RPI rankings; if those teams (Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, UWGB) sneak into the Top 50 that will help as well.
  19. Well said. I highly doubt the kids knowingly and deliberately cheated. Parents yeah probably but I have a hard time actually blaming these kids for any of this.
  20. I like Cravy but in what world does he have more potential than Nelson (In that he would be guaranteed a spot and Nelson needs to fight for the 4/5 spot). I like Cravy and all but I would say Thornburg, Nelson, and probably Jungmann all have higher ceilings than him. Plus Cravy has still never thrown 100 innings in a season and he is now over 25 years old. I have never heard anywhere that Cravy has the upside of a 1/2 type pitcher.
  21. I mean what fan in America didn't love Florida Gulf Coast, Butler, or George Mason when they went on those runs. I would argue the NCAA is more likely to pull in the casual fans when those types of things happen than when some mediocre ACC or B10 team gets squashed in the first round. These arenas seem to fill up no matter who is playing.
  22. I would rather have Murray State there than an entirely mediocre team like Indiana, Illinois, Texas A&M, or Miami. None of those teams have a chance in heck of advancing past the first weekend; let the team who steamrolled through their league get in with a chance to be a Cinderella. It adds a lot more intrigue.
  23. A little late to the party here but I hope the grown up that tattled on all those young hard working kids feels really good about himself. I think I read the guy got arrested a couple weeks back; but I can't remember what for. I hope Little League let the kids keep whatever trophies they won from that tournament.
  24. Herrara has about the same chance as I do of making the opening day roster thankfully barring serious injuries to Jimenez or Hector Gomez. Too bad Matt Clark isn't right handed otherwise he would be playing himself into a backup 1B and OF spot as well. Little to no chance Herrera makes the team.
  25. I think Duke winning the head to head over UW keeps them ahead of UW even if they lose in the ACC tourney. If Virginia loses they would equal the 3 losses of Wisconsin but probably have the slightly better resume. This week is also a really fun week to be a basketball fan. I really love watching the smaller conference tourneys and how amazing it must feel to win the championship and get to go to the big dance. I wish somehow Murray State would make the tourney. Go undefeated in your regular season and lose in the final seconds of your championship game is a hard way to go out.
