  1. I think Virginia is still a lock even if they lose another game. Only hope for UW is a Villanova loss. There is a chance they could leapfrog Villanova if they both won out I think though. Badgers could also avoid Kentucky if someone like Notre Dame sneaks on to the 2 line. A Kansas or Gonzaga loss could do that. I guess if they play Kentucky in the Elite 8 so be it. Its not like they can't be them and they shouldn't be ashamed if do lose to a team that has like 38 All Americans on the team.
  2. Yeah this complaint doesn't make much sense to me. Without his aggressive we would never have gotten to the see the good Gomez. He forever would have been that guy with all the talent that never could put it together. Gomez was one of the very best CF's in the game last year and RR letting him loose no doubt contributed to that. Gomez only plays at one speed and I am glad for one that he does; he is a tremendous source of energy and a heck of a player.
  3. Borrowing money on your businesses' "enterprise value" to basically fund operations is not a smart way to do business at all. Brewers should treat their ongoing operations like most individuals would like to treat normal living expenses: If you can't pay for it in cash, don't buy it.
  4. When they are hitting their shots like they were last night they can beat anyone; including Kentucky. Kentucky isn't some unstoppable force; they have almost lost games to entirely mediocre teams. Yes the Badgers would have to play a hell of a game to beat them but it isn't impossible. CBS and NBC also have UW in Kentucky's bracket. At least playing Kentucky would probably lead to a pretty neutral crowd I imagine and it would be pretty awesome to keep the All American team from making the Final 4. Kentucky would probably be favored by 5-6 points I would guess. I still think there is a pretty good opportunity for UW to jump Duke or Villanova. Duke is a legitimately talented and good team; Villanova just screams mediocrity to me though; they are absolutely not making a Final 4.
  5. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Tyrone Taylor 3. Monte Harrison 4. Clint Coulter 5. Gilbert Lara 6. Kodi Medieros 7. Taylor Williams 8. Taylor Jungmann 9. Wei-Chung Wang 10. Jake Gatewood 11. Devin Williams 12. Jorge Lopez 13. Corey Knebel 14. Tyler Wagner 15. Marcos Diplan 16. David Denson 17. Yadiel Rivera 18. Jed Bradley 19. Kyle Wren 20. Tyler Cravy 21. Tucker Neuhaus 22. Dustin Demuth 23. Michael Reed 24. Victor Roache 25. Damien Magnifico
  6. Sure seems to me that the Bucks are fading and fading fast. They just lost 3 straight road games to pretty crappy teams and now get to face Golden State. I trust that the trade was done for the long term; but right now the team is struggling. Giannis had a good game though.
  7. Badgers almost got a gift last night from Creighton; they had Villanova on the ropes but couldn't quite pull it out in the end. At this point I think the best way to a #1 seed is to have Duke lose at UNC and also lose prior the ACC Championship game while UW wins out through at least the Big 10 semis. I don't think the committee really considers the B10 championship into seeding since it gets done so late. Villanova is entirely unimpressive but I am not sure there is someone in the Big East Tourney to knock them off. Virginia would probably need to lose 3 times for the Badgers to jump them and that isn't happening. I do have some concern that Arizona is ahead of the Badgers right now coming off a big win at Utah.
  8. Deferred contracts just seem like a normal business practice for pretty much all teams nowadays. I find nothing wrong with it so long as the money is deferred for only a small number of years and that it doesn't earn interest.
  9. I think the #1 seeds are correct as of today. UW's best wins are Georgetown, Oklahoma, and Michigan State. That's not exactly a great resume. They are rightfully on the #2 line right now. I think Duke or Virginia would need to lose 2 games to drop off of #1 line and it is certainly possible for Virginia. They play at Louisville and at Syracuse followed by the ACC tourney. Duke has to play at UNC and the ACC tourney yet. If Duke didn't have the head to head advantage over UW I would say UW could leap them if they lose one game; but I am just not sure. If UW wins out they probably do end up with a #1 seed; I think they are probably the #5 team as we speak although Arizona might have an argument. Regardless I think they need some losses from Duke, Virginia, or Villanova to have a chance.
  10. So it is $3.5 Million in 2015, $5.5 Million in 2016; A $6 Million club option in 2017 with $4 Million total of the 2015 and 2016 salaries deferred. So it really is a 2/13 deal which could be as high as 3/19. I haven't seen what that buyout in 2017 is but for a $6 million base salary I can't imagine it is too much. I have a hard time understanding why people think Krod was so horrible last year. Yes he gave up quite a few home runs but it seems that most were probably solo shots since he maintained a strong WHIP. He had a great K rate, gave up only 6.5 hits per 9 innings, and had a 90% save rate. Nothing there strikes me as horrible or even below average. He has had one year in his entire career where his ERA+ was below 100. The guy isn't Rivera or Hoffman in their prime; but there is nothing in there that tells me he is going to fall off the face of the earth and just suck. It could happen but perhaps just as likely he keeps putting up 120+ in ERA+ for the next 2 years. His ERA+ in 2013 with the Brewers was frickin over 300 and his strikeout rate and walk rate was worse in that year than in 2014.
  11. At that salary, a 2 year deal is just fine. 2/9 for Krod seems like a really good deal to me.
  12. I have heard it both ways regarding geography. I don't think anyone really has a clue; ultimately the committee can do whatever they want. The Midwest regional is in Cleveland; so I don't know that it would favor either UW or Kentucky in that instance. I am not saying UW can't beat Kentucky; I would just much rather play anyone else in a Regional Final to make a Final 4. Everyone here would rather they be the #2 with Gonzaga or Virginia the #1.
  13. Am I correct that the June draft is now actually in July or did I imagine that? I thought I heard they moved it back to allow the college world series to conclude before the draft.
  14. I agree, if we can get good Ryan Braun (Not even MVP Braun) and average performance out of Segura we should have one of the best offenses in the league. A lot of the guys we have are injury prone so it will require some luck. But I really like those lineups. RR did say he would give Lind a shot in spring training to go against a lot of lefties so a straight platoon there shouldn't be assumed. Lind won't face the really good lefties but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some starts. At worst he is a heck of a pinch hitter late in games when there is a lefty starter.
  15. Do the Brewers really have any history in fixing guys swings and approaches in the minor leagues? Obviously we know what the kid's flaw is; but can they actually fix it or is this kid another Victor Roache who is all or nothing?
  16. So Cecchini is more of a Lyle Overbay type? I have no problem with the lack of HR's so long as he at least has some doubles power, gets on base, and can play a competent 3rd. If he can take walks like that seems like an ideal 2 spot candidate. I can't imagine it would take an arm and a leg to get him right now.
  17. Pretty tough to beat a good team on the road when your two starting guards go a combined 3-17 from the floor. I will give Koenig the benefit of the doubt; this was his first bad shooting game since becoming a starter. Gasser however has been broke lately and his missing completely wide open shots. Gasser and to a lesser extent Dukan are going to have to start making some shots if UW wants to make a run in March. It will probably be pretty hard to get a #1 seed now unless there a multiple losses from the teams ahead. Not a big deal to me; but again don't end up in Kentucky's bracket.
  18. So would I; I know Krod is a lightning rod around here but at the right price he is a great pick up. I would certainly be OK paying Krod $6-7 Million this year instead of perhaps $15-$20 Million for Papelbon for the next 2 years. We would have a ton of bullpen depth if Krod is signed. According to mlbtraderumors he is expected to sign with someone soon.
  19. Villanova can also make a very good case for a #1 seed as well. If UW wins out I think they are basically guaranteed a #1 and perhaps they could conceivably lose one more game. If they are a #2 I want Gonzaga, Villanova, or Virginia to be there #1 seed. Even Duke wouldn't be that bad; that team just got incredibly hot at the Kohl Center earlier this year. First things first though; they have to beat Maryland. Maryland has been winning rather ugly including nearly losing to Northwestern at home. UW should and is favored in this game but no doubt Maryland knows how big of a game this would be for them.
  20. I will be cheering for Willis as well; it would be a feel good story if he can come back and be successful. Chris Perez probably isn't a lock but I think he will be given every opportunity to win a spot. I am guessing Kintzler will get that last spot; hopefully getting his knee fixed this past offseason helps him out. His numbers would seem to indicate he was OK last year; but he didn't pass the eye test.
  21. Big game for the Badgers tonight. Win at Maryland and at home against Michigan State on Sunday and they should leapfrog Gonzaga for the coveted #1 seed. I don't think being a #2 is really a big deal for the Badgers if it ends up that way; I just don't want them to be in the Kentucky region. Getting on that #1 line assures them of not having to face Kentucky until the Final 4. I think both Duke and Virginia probably have another loss or two in them but it is asking a lot of the Badgers to win out this season. Maryland, MSU, OSU and the conference tourney will be awfully hard to sweep through. Gonzaga probably isn't losing at all and neither is Kentucky.
  22. Assuming no further pickups; when the dust settles I think we have a 7 man bullpen. Broxton (Lock) Smith (Lock) Jeffress (Almost Certain Lock) Cotts (Almost Certain Lock) Chris Perez Jim Henderson The 7th spot then comes down to Dontrelle Willis, Brandon Kintzler, or Rob Wooten. I am assuming Thornburg is stretched out as a starter in AAA since the Brewers are so dangerously thin in backup starters. I really like the potential of that bullpen; there is a lot of heat in that group
  23. So 8 of the Brewers Top 21 prospects are new to the organization since the 2014 June Draft. So that either tells us that our system Pre-June 2014 was absolutely terrible or that the Brewers have brought in a substantial amount of impact talent since then. The truth is probably somewhere in-between.
  24. Brewers being finalists along with NYY and BOS means something I guess. Boston offered $30 Million, NYY probably offered about $25 Million, and I am guessing the Brewers were maybe around $20 Million. A finalist if you want to call it that; but they never had a chance. At a minimum this tells me Doug has money to spend in the international market. Hopefully come July 2nd he can add one or two more solid prospects.
  25. Eh, Boras is pretty desperate I think. Maybe there comes a point where the price is low enough for MA. But if MA really wanted him back he already would be a Brewer. I am perfectly just going with what we have; he'll probably still be available late in Spring Training anyways.
