  1. If a Big Ten team gets through the regular season and tournament with a total of 2 losses on the season they probably will be a lock for a #1. I wouldn't totally be upset if we are a #2 so long as the #1 in our group isn't Kentucky. Kentucky is probably a lock for a #1; no one else really is. If Gonzaga loses at all they are out. Both Duke and Virginia could both conceivably lose multiple games in a fairly deep ACC. Other than Kentucky UW probably has the cleanest route to a #1 simply because the Big Ten sucks and I am not sure anyone can beat them assuming complete health. Duke has a hell of a resume; UW needs them to lose another game to be seeded above them.
  2. Hope for Washington or Toronto in the first round. They can probably win a game or two against CLE, CHI, or ATL but I don't think they could win a 7 game series.
  3. Well if all that Melvin is offering for Pap is Broxton; I am pretty sure he hasn't even remotely thought of sending over an actual prospect. I think Papelbon would be an upgrade over Broxton; I am sure not sure if he is worth that extra $4 Million with the large option in 2016.
  4. Two things. 1. My 18 month old puked in her car seat last night. You are not supposed to wash the fabric because it might compromise its integrity in a crash. There is no way to get the funk out without sending it through the washer so I might get to go buy a new one. 2. Trying to plan a 2nd floor bathroom renovation project on an old home. I have the cost pretty well nailed down for labor and materials; but I have been told that the old pipes coming up from the basement are nearing the end of their useful life and should be replaced. I don't know what this costs yet but I am expecting it to be a lot. The bathroom desperately needs to be re-modeled and just the labor and materials for that is affordable for me; but the cost to replace all those pipes might just be too much for me. If I don't replace the pipes and they start leaking 1, 5, or 10 years from now I will kick myself in the butt for not doing it. Perhaps I need to find one of those 18 month interest free credit cards and just do it pay for it over time.
  5. My money is on the Dodgers. But if by some miracle the Brewers get him that sure would make minor league box score watching really fun this year. Lots of guys; albeit most of them very young, to watch.
  6. The ATL coach is a shoo-in as of right now; but Kidd should definitely be in the Top #3. If ATL falls back in the 2nd half maybe Kidd can steal it. With Kidd's success it makes me think his days in MIL will be numbered; the minute he gets an offer from a big market team I am guessing that he is gone.
  7. Well apparently they are going to have Weeks play in the OF in addition to DH and 2B. All I can say is good look with that. He was a terrible defender at his natural position; I can't imagine one spring training in the OF will make him even an average OF. He isn't exactly a burner anymore either. Good luck to Rickie; Jack Z sure likes his ex-brewer reclamation projects.
  8. From everything I have ever have read about Amaro; is that he is entirely unrealistic in his trade expectations to the point that other GM's think he is ridiculous. No doubt in my mind that Amaro is holding out expecting some team to become desperate and give him a really good prospect. Getting a good prospect for Papelbon is much more likely to happen at the trading deadline than it is now; especially if it appears that he might not hit the minimum games finished clause. If I were Amaro I would really be trying to trade Hamels right now; its dumb to keep him and he would no doubt return a huge amount of talent. His contract really isn't all that bad.
  9. If they can get him in a weeks worth of games at the end of spring training that should be plenty good enough. Not too worried; just make sure this heals up and don't let it linger. Hamstring injuries can't be too fun for a catcher.
  10. I was semi-mad that Giannis didn't play at all in the 4th quarter last game despite being very close to a triple double. Just throw him out there to get the stats; it would have been cool.
  11. This is going a little political; but the only reason I have read for him saying no is the potential for a big cost to the tax payers in the future due to the Menomonee contract. If that contract didn't exist I think he would have approved it using the open market approach. But enough of that already. I think I might watch the dunk competition for the first time in forever on Saturday. Giannis probably needs to come up with something really spectacular since it is probably harder for tall guys to win.
  12. Its kind of like football recruiting in the SEC. If a player gets offered by Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc that is an automatic 1-2 star increase in their rankings. Wisconsin continually has very average recruiting classes according to the scouting services and routinely outperforms those ranking rather significantly. If the player in MLB was a Top #10 pick they are generally given the benefit of the doubt by rankers even if the performance hasn't been there. Well the Brewers haven't had too many Top #10 picks in the last 7 years. The Brewers have churned out good players from their system to help the big league team year after year and almost universally those players were not highly regarded. The crew has missed on a fair amount of 1st round picks in recent years; but they also have hit home runs on mid round picks as well; but since they were mid round guys it takes a lot for the ranking services to rank them over the 1st round high ceiling players.
  13. Every guy on that list except for Cotts and Kintzler has the stuff to be a closer. I would love it if Jeffress could step up and be that guy just because he is low cost and controllable; no need for DM to be looking out for guys like Broxton, Krod, or Papelbon. You also have good potential bullpen guys in the minors including Pena, Hellweg, Knebel, Goforth, Gagnon, etc. DM certainly shouldn't be looking to sign relievers to anything more than 1 or maybe 2 year deals in the near future.
  14. What about New York's team makes anyone think they are going to be a playoff contender either. Washington and LA will most likely be very good teams and should make the playoffs barring injuries or severe underperformance. The rest of the teams are a big muddled mess and I certainly don't think STL is 8 games better than the rest of the NL. Are the Cubs really ready to fight for a playoff spot too? Personally I think 2016 is the target for them.
  15. Yeah if that provision wasn't included in the contract with the Milwaukee casino then the Kenosha casino probably would have been approved a long time ago. State taxpayers and voters would be incredibly pissed to find out that the state had to pay a casino because said casino didn't make enough money. It is ludicrous to even think about. The Menomonee have offered to cover those losses; but then you are still relying on a 3rd party to have the capability to pay what could amount to a pretty substantial amount of money. Kenosha would certainly draw gamblers away from Milwaukee; but one would also think it would be bring in new gamblers from Illinois too. I don't understand why these casinos can't just compete on an open market basis; let the best casino win. They shouldn't be guaranteed anything.
  16. I am sure Melvin is doing his due diligence but I still can't picture them being able to throw enough money at Moncada to match some other teams. Even if they were able to match I imagine the kid would pick some place like NY or LA over Milwaukee anyways. Brewers probably have about 50/1 odds of signing this guy.
  17. $200 Million is a hell of a lot of money. If that means the state has to bond less for the construction that does have to offset some of the risk associated with the Kenosha casino. The $200 Million is basically a bribe to the state to approve that casino. Its amazing that tribes have that much money sitting around to basically just throw away. I was surprised Giannis didn't finish off the Triple Double; he was within only a couple rebounds and assists at the end of the 3rd quarter. Even thought he didn't get it; last night was just another game in a good long string of consistently good games from him.
  18. I think he is far more athletic than Durant ever was. If the defense has to respect his jump shot I don't know if there is guy in the league that could consistently stay in front of his on the drive. His improvement from Year #1 to Year #2 has been amazing; he has even gotten a lot better since November. By the time he is a 3-4 year vet in the league he could be that perennial all star everyone has been hoping for. Couple him with Parker and hopefully Knight and that is a really outstanding core.
  19. I would absolutely give Lucroy that Russell Martin contract if I were Melvin. Gomez would surely be a lot more than that so I would understand getting out of that sweepstakes. But I wouldn't even blink about paying Lucroy $16 Million a year based his last 3 years especially when you can extend his career by occasionally playing at 1st. It probably isn't a good idea to pay $25 or $30 Million for a bullpen on a year in year out basis; but for one year I don't think you are really causing yourself any long-term payroll problems. The Brewers should have a really good offense this year and the rotation should be at a minimum serviceable/league average; if having an expensive yet very good bullpen will put us over the top then $10 Million for Broxton and $10 Million for Papelbon is money well spent.
  20. Including Parra would mean we are probably picking up most of Papelbon's salary; I guess we would still be saving some money though. Wagner has improved by leaps and bounds since he entered the system; maybe he isn't as good as his 2014 numbers indicate but he looks like he has a chance at an MLB future. In looking at the most recent Power 25; I would be OK parting with those guys in the 21-25 range; but all the guys in the Top 20 interest me quite a bit and I personally want to see their development with the Crew.
  21. Giannis really just needs to get a jump shot. If he can pose a threat out there while having that freak athletic ability he could become a star quickly. But becoming a good jump shooter just isn't that easy. Knight is the only player resembling a star right now; but both Parker and Giannis have the ability to make that next step.
  22. The Bucks show flashes of being able to beat any team and they have several really nice wins. However they have struggled mightily against both Chicago and Toronto who could be potential 1st round opponents. Right now it would be Washington. I think the Bucks could do what they did a couple years back and push there 1st round opponent to a 6 or 7 game series; just not sure they can actually win a series. Washington probably would be the best match up for the Bucks among Washington, Chicago, Toronto, and Cleveland. Also it is becoming obvious that they need to keep Knight around next year; he has really blossomed into a good PG. For next year they could really use a good center in the draft to push Zaza and Sanders.
  23. With the Super Bowl now over it really is time to start getting excited about baseball again. Pitchers and catchers report in about 3 weeks. While I am not optimistic like I was for the 2011 season for example where everyone was expecting big things; I think the 2015 Brewers are more than capable of making a solid run. It will require some bounce back years (Braun & Segura), some good health (Ramirez), and development with the young starters (Nelson & Fiers) but it is not completely unrealistic. If Braun is healthy RF should be miles better and 1st should be much better as well. C and CF might fall back a but just because they were so good last year. Excited for that first Spring Training game.
  24. I think Taylor should be able to climb some leaderboards as well. He acquitted himself pretty nicely in a huge pitchers league last year; I think he takes off in Biloxi. Good CF who will take a walk and doesn't strike out much at all. Doubles power at this point but at least it is power. A 330-340 OBP CF that will get you 30 doubles, 5-10 home runs, and perhaps 40+ steals a year is a pretty darn good player. Not elite by any means but certainly good for CF. His cup of coffee in Huntsville wasn't very good last year but I am giving him a pass on that.
  25. The sad part was I don't know that RR had any choice but to abuse Smith last year. After Thornburg and Henderson went down RR didn't exactly have a plethora of guys in the bullpen he could really trust. Smith was so incredibly good in the 1st half it sort of makes sense that RR tended to use him more often throughout the year. The more arms this year the better; if we get Krod or Papelbon then absolutely no one should get over worked this year absent injuries.
