  1. I am pretty happy how this turned out; Diplan absolutely improves the farm system. I do not want a Shields signing anymore. Yes getting Diplan may be the equivalent of a 1st round pick but I am greedy and want to hold onto that 15th pick this June. I don't think I would really want to pay what it would cost to get Zimmerman or Strasburg either. Go with the 5 guys we have with Jungmann as the #6. I think we have some capable guys at AA or AAA that can be #7 and #8. Lower levels of the minors should be very fun to watch this year. I will be curious to see where Lara and Diplan start out.
  2. The Brewers farm system is all of a sudden putting some really nice young talent together. Lara, Diplan, Harrison, Medieros, Gatewood, etc. All these guys are a long ways out but odds are at least a couple will develop as hoped.
  3. That last 5 minutes of the game was the last month of Brewers baseball wrapped up in one crappy little package.
  4. Brandon Bostick. If he catches the ball that hits him in the face; the game is all but over
  5. I don't understand those recommended weights the government tells people about. I am a tall guy and don't consider myself fat or obese by any means. Not super skinny either. However in order to meet what the government calls a healthy weight I would need to lose like 40 pounds. I would be skin and bones.
  6. Well the Brewers are kind of an afterthought right now with the Packers success. I am certainly not in baseball excitement mode yet. 20% over the same day last year can't be anything but a good thing though. There probably won't be anything between now and opening day that would really get people knocking down the door for season tickets; so the press release is aimed to generate a sense of urgency in some holdouts I imagine.
  7. That is probably a fair statement. The easier thing to do is take the pill the doctor gives you rather than make changes to your lifestyle. Eating healthier and exercising more obviously won't cure every ailment out there; but they sure will help. Preventative more than anything.
  8. Medicine and technology have made great advancements in certain areas including extending lives of people who otherwise would have died at an early age 50 years ago. That doesn't mean the food they were eating 50 years ago wasn't a heck of a lot better than it is now. Just putting health issues aside; the flavor of items organic vs. non-organic can be night and day. Stuff like grapes, tomatoes, and strawberries immediately come to mind. Grapes especially can be absolutely horrible.
  9. In the 50's, 60's, and 70's I don't think as much of the mainstream produce was using pesticides, herbicides, GMO's, etc. With advancement in technologies the giant food companies have a adopted a slew of ways to increase yield and profit. Most of these technologies have absolutely reduced the flavor of produce; the effects on our health are a bit more debatable though. Some people claim all this crap the companies are using is what is making this country so sick; I am not quite that far but just think if you can afford to pay for organic you should do it. I love cherry tomatoes to munch on; I plan on putting some pots out this year; my problem has always been darn rabbits. I need to put my pots in such high places to avoid the rabbits that they don't get as much sun as they should.
  10. What I would kill for a big backyard. I would love to put in a huge garden and do a bunch of canning as such. For now farmers markets in the summer are great. In the winter it is just really hard to eat healthy and find good foods.
  11. At this point is there really anything not in the produce section at the grocery store that isn't artificially flavored with something. The wife and I switched to organic foods as much as possible a long time ago. Financially we can't do everything organic but we try to avoid those processed and packaged foods as much as possible. Maybe we are being paranoid, maybe not, but I all the crap they put in food nowadays can't possibly be in your health's best interests.
  12. Well Kaminsky is obviously pretty important to the team. I can't believe how hot Rutgers get in the 2nd half. They were hitting everything and many of them were contested. Hayes is clearly the 2nd best player on the team; with Kaminsky out Dekker had a chance to prove himself a bit more and he really didn't show up. Hayes might have a better NBA future than Dekker at this point. Also early rumors are Jackson is going to be out a long time with the ankle/foot. Koenig will step in and play fine but they are down to only a 6 man rotation. Showalter is now forced to play I guess. A crappy loss but those are going to happen; especially without your best player on the road.
  13. Even though it is a 10 day contract the Bucks were still forced to get rid of someone. Was it worth getting rid of Wolters for a 10 days of Kenyon Martin? Obviously Wolters isn't in the long term plans on the Bucks; it just seems shortsighted to dump him to sign an over the hill player to a 10 day contract.
  14. Why are the really wasting their time on Kenyon Martin. Wolters was and probably always will be a end of the bench type player but what the Bucks really hope to gain by adding an ancient Martin?
  15. I don't know if Pudge ever showed up on a list or not; but I don't believe Piazza ever did. Writers are just assuming that since Piazza had some of the greatest years of all time for a catcher during the steroid era that he had to have been taking them. I don't think there is even a half way credible source linking Piazza to PED's. Just some journalists who have a keyboard and an audience.
  16. We are getting close to the point where Spring Training is at least in sight. That's pretty cool. Ryan Braun's thumb is going to be important to the Brewers; perhaps as much as Aaron Rodger's calf. I will watching Braun's performance in spring training pretty closely despite it being meaningless. I need hope that he can be the MVP player he was a couple years back.
  17. The problem with Sanders more than anything is availability; her PER stats are all well and good but if he can't get himself on the court what good do those stats do you. Who knows what the issue is right now; but obviously the issues last year were entirely self-inflicted.
  18. I am guessing Piazza is a lock for next year though; when people get that close enough people the following year usually vote for them to get them over the top. Bagwell might be possible next year too.
  19. I would love Zobrist as well. DM would need to get rid of Parra while not taking on any additional MLB salary. The Rays would also probably have to accept a package of minor leaguers only; DM can't afford to give up any major league talent to get Zobrist. Maybe a package including Jungmann plus some lower guys. The Brewers could probably get outbid pretty easily.
  20. Whether he is playing or not I don't think he has had much of an effect on the team. At least they haven't appeared to miss him too much. It's just incredible his career has turned sour after signing that extension. He seems to be the very definition of the money hungry athlete that is only in it to get paid. Bucks should probably looking for C, PG, and SG depth this coming offseason. They can't depend on Zaza forever.
  21. It also seems to be a lot milder as well; this week notwithstanding. Last year we had the temps we are expecting this week for what seemed like 2 months. Stepping out this morning was still a kick in the pants though; I was glad my car started.
  22. Part of me wishes that the Brewers would have taken a flier on him; it is only $2.5 Million. He was pretty bad last year; but perhaps another year removed from the injury his performance will increase. I don't think it would have been a bad gamble at $2.5 Million. He is strictly a 1B, PH, and DH at this point though. Maybe an emergency OF.
  23. How about Kyle Jensen who was just released by the Dodgers? Right handed power bat; could be a nice compliment to Lind at 1st. Kind of old for a guy who hasn't broken through yet; but he looks like he could fit in nicely. Plays some OF too.
  24. With their next win they will match their win total from all of last year. That is crazy to think about; the only roster move they made of significance was drafting Parker. Kidd has done an amazing job so far. Giannis has improved leaps and bounds. Even if this year does end up with a first round pounding it still should be considered a very successful year. It just sucks that Jabari got hurt.
  25. So do they have a farm system left at all? Getting Myers, Kemp, and Upton in the span of 2 days is nuts. However all 3 have pretty big question marks. This roster makeover has the potential to fail on a massive level. I don't think Kemp is capable of covering that massive CF in San Diego; they would be wise to get him to a corner OF spot and move Myers to 1st. Maybin in CF.
