  1. hmm. i haven't been on this site for quite a while, so its too bad my appearance must be made in this forum. why is it that every brewer game i attend follows the same set pattern? (1) Brewers take the lead. yay. (2) Brewers lose the lead late. shoot. (3) Brewers bring the tying/winning run to the plate in the 8th and/or 9th. ooooh! (4) Brewers lose. what a waste of 4 hours of my life (plus transit). For the sake of superstition, I won't attend another Brewer game until (fingers crossed beyond the threshold of pain) October.
  2. its brewers or bust for me, i'm afraid. too bad right now it's looking a little busty.
  3. wow, interesting. as i was reading it, i wondered if they would be able to pull it off as a movie. i almost don't know if i would even want to see it, as i don't think they could. EDIT: upon further IMDB review, I will definitely go see it - by the director of Finding Neverland. Nov 2, 2007 release date.
  4. I thought I'd rejuvenate this thread, as I've read some good ones this week. I read Teacher Man by Frank McCourt, about his 30 years teaching public high schools in New York - nice quick read. 100 Years of Solitude only lasted for about a month as my all time favorite and has been since replaced by The Kite Runner, which I finished a few minutes ago. Simply a must-read for everyone alive.
  5. i really like that lineup. i smell me some big offense tonight!
  6. A pennant race is exciting. Several teams limping through a pennant race until one of them stumbles onto first place is not quite as exciting, but I agree with your sentiment. Hopefully the Brewers can once again start playing like the team thats been sitting at the top of the NL Central for most of the year. They'll get hot again. The Cubs will get hot again. then I'll be excited.
  7. haha, well don't worry, i'll find a way to circumvent the internet filter at work so I can still waste hours a day on facebook. except now it'll be on the company dime, not mine. booyah.
  8. Just got off the phone with Charter and by this time tomorrow I'll be living in the stone age. It was actually one of the most concise and efficient phone conversations I've ever had with a member of their award-winning staff, clocking in at just under 5 hours. Ok, so it was only about 10 minutes. Good riddance anyway. (...that is, until I inevitably come crawling back to them with my tail between my legs in a couple weeks)
  9. Ha I appreciate the sentiment, and its kind of funny how a first place brewers game in mid-august feels like it should play second fiddle to a preseason packers game, but thats usually the case.
  10. I believe the Brewers will win the NL Central, Prince will win MVP, Bruan will win ROY, and Capuano et al will right the ship in such a way that we will look back on times like this and laugh.
  11. Homer to his pet lobster: See ... together we weigh 300 lbs. According to my driver's licence, I weigh 130 lbs. That means you weigh ... ... 460 lbs. Oh! good!
  12. wow good mojo, prince with a triple just now!
  13. And don't worry, I realize the futility of asking a very involved internet community about the downfalls of cold-shouldering the internet. I can tell you right now that I wouldn't miss cable at all. I've become very attached to the internet, but anything that I NEED the internet for, I can take care of at work (err, I mean over my lunch break?) I would anticipate an increased amount of reading, exercising, making actual meals, etc... but I'm sure I'll find some other mindless activity to fill the void.
  14. Portland won't know what hit 'em. Good luck guys! If/when you ever come back to Mad-town let me know, there is more debauchery to be had.
  15. I loved the HBO special, and I've been really enjoying the series, even though the first couple episodes bugged me because the songs seemed too 'overproduced' or something. the whole lip-synching thing was bugging me. so i don't know if they toned it down or if I just got used to it,.... but it is hilarious. My favorite moment so far was Jemaine's song to cheer Bret up: 'Bret you got it going on'
  16. Ok, I've been on the fence, but I think I'm going to finally cancel my Charter Cable and Internet bundle. This is a big step for me since I live alone and on the nights I don't have softball, I basically come home from work and sit around on the internet and watch the Brewers until I go to bed (hence, one of the reasons I'm thinking about getting rid of it). All I watch on TV are the Brewers, but I would enjoy them just as much by listening to Bob and Jim. I don't really mind paying for it, although it is pretty steep for the amount I use it, but I'm really sick and tired of Charter and it would just be a load off my mind to be free from their shackles. I figure without the temptation, I'll hopefully find something more constructive to do with my time (although that remains to be seen). Plus there's a library right down the street where I can get on the internet if I need to. Anyone else ever gone without cable and/or internet for an extended period of time?? 17. The bullpen is a tricky beast. Earlier in the season I was furious at Yost for how much of a leash he was giving struggling pitchers. I have to catch myself now if I start to fault him for pulling a pitcher "early." Suppan was a tough call in this specific instance, but I like the fact that Yost seems to have been making his pitching moves more lately with the intention of winning the game. Just because it didn't equate to a victory today doesn't mean he necessarily made bad decisions. He doesn't know what each pitcher is going to do when he puts him out there, so if every pitcher on the team struggles in the same night, you're going to see 5+ pitchers from time to time. In this specific case, Philly has a very good offense, as did the Mets earlier this week.
  18. now this would probably be a decent situation for the vent thread.

  20. Just rented (ahem, from the internet) Hot Fuzz and boy oh boy was it funny. It was delivered almost exactly like Shaun of the Dead so I don't know how it could have gone wrong. Also, Remember the Titans was on tv earlier today, and I dare anyone to watch that movie without having to wipe some dust from their eyes.
  21. Man, I can't wait to see what those numbers extrapolate out to in October.... I've been happy with Jenkins, but not much more. I would have hoped for even more production because with the platoon he's been put in a position to increase the 'percentage' stats (AVG, OPS...), even if it means he's sharing the 'totals' stats (HR, RBI, ...) with Mench. I think if you're looking at his stats for this year compared to last year, we should be expecting a bigger jump (especially in the K and HR rates that you referenced) because he really struggled last year, and this year he's being faced with fewer opportunities to be embarrassed by good left handed pitchers. The platoon has been great in my mind, but I guess to answer your question, Jenkins has not performed up to my expectations (however unfounded they may have been).
  22. Yes, the time that I went with his tickets was by far the most enjoyable loss I've ever seen. I had never sat that close and had only been in the .300 club once. The club isn't really for me, but it sure was fun to check it out for a little while. Pedro, you are a gentleman and a scholar!
  23. Mahahah, yes! Here we go crew! I think Prince and Jenkins are going to have themselves some huge nights tonight off of the righty... After watching the cubs announcers making a big deal out of the 'skirmish' I sure hope FSN doesn't follow suit...
  24. tonight at softball, one of my teammates smoked a double, which was pretty cool because he's not really much of a hitter (so it would be like if I hit a double) and then the catcher asked the second base umpire if he touched first. I was coaching first and he pretty much stepped right on the top of the bag. on top of that, i could tell that the second base ump had absolutely no idea, but when they through back to first, he called him out. the guy obviously just wanted to take part in a play that was out of the ordinary. it was absurd and i let him hear about it. in the long run, not that big of a deal as we still lost 23-10 but man oh man did that bug me.
  25. Mahaha, very nice. I didn't expect that, although in retrospect, I should have.
