  1. I don't know if any of you have read "Congo" (or seen the horrible, horrible movie) but this update will likely give me nightmares.
  2. I would agree with this, as well as the fact that it's probably partially the natural evolution of the forum. Still, I've often thought that getting rid of the # of posts in the little Author profile to the left of every post might make a difference. Personally, I know that at one time I had a competitive desire to reach the next posting plateau at the cost of intelligent discussion.
  3. The buck must've inquired about Ned's private family business.
  4. I agree. I don't know enough about the fight itself simply from watching it and reading players' relatively canned comments, but I tend to agree with the general consensus from those who have more experience with this than us (Braun, Parra, Schroeder, etc) that this happens more often than is disclosed and really doesn't have a strong effect one way or the other. I do, however, disagree with the idea of focusing any frustrations about this incident on Ned. If anything, I think he succeeded in distracting the media enough from the fight to throw a media pity party and move on from this as soon as possible.
  5. Wow - great game last night. Really nice stadium, and I'll echo the statement about the fans. With only a couple exceptions, everyone was extremely friendly considering they just got Halled twice. Of the several people that came up to us and started talking baseball, one said "Well, I guess as long as it's not the Cubs, we'll let you guys have one this year" and another said "I'll be honest, I really want to punch you in the face right now because of that game, but I hope you're enjoying St. Louis." I only wish we would have had more time to see the city. Oh and an air matress for the tent. Definitely planning to go back for the two-gamer in August.
  6. Great game - I'll be in attendance at this one (447A - row 2 - seats 3 through 6) Go Crew!
  7. Same here. Kind of spur of the moment. Probably tenting it up somewhere Monday and Tuesday night with a couple friends. Weirdos, have you gotten game tickets yet?
  8. My favorite hat by far was a white one with a green wheat M logo and a little green shamrock on the brim that I bought at spring training two years ago. Unfortunately, I forgot it somewhere between Byron Bay and Sydney on the eastern coast of Australia. I'm still planning to go back for it someday. At least I find comfort in the fact that some rugby or cricket fan is hopefully now wearing what is probably the only St. Patricks Day Milwaukee Brewers hat to ever exist in Australia.
  9. Hey everyone, long time no see. Baseball is back so soon enough so will I, yet again selling my soul to Charter to see the boys of summer. But that's not the point. My cousin is shipping out to Iraq next week. I don't really have a great relationship with him (not a bad one, just the absence of one) but I wanted to send him an e-mail before he leaves. Any ideas on any comforting words he'd want to hear? Anything I started writing sounded trite or forced. I don't want to start anything political, just looking for some input from anyone a little better with things like this than I am. Thanks.
  10. If you want to do some place exotic and beautiful without much culture shock, do New Zealand. I cannot recommend it enough. If you have any specific questions about New Zealand/Australia, send me a PM. I've had friends that RAed and enjoyed it and others that didn't really. I haven't met anyone who didn't ultimately enjoy studying abroad - but I guess everything's what you make of it.
  11. He's 38? He looks 14.
  12. hey sam - I haven't read it but my friend was raving about Founding Brothers - it's a series of about 7 cool stories about some of the central guys from baby America.
  13. I gotta finish this G D 5 K Very funny, but very strange. This new absurdity is kind of harder to relate to than the original absurdity. I feel like the characters are all becoming caricatures.

  15. I am assuming he is getting by right now by staring at his bank account a lot. I recognize the sarcasm, but I feel bad for Jenkins. He's been on some Bad brewers teams with a capital B. I can't imagine he would trade any meaningful September start for money in the bank. Oh well, them's the bigs, I suppose. To rip a page from the Brian Anderson book, "Dillon's been swinging a red hot bat as of late", so Yost will have to stick with him until about a month after he cools off.
  16. Ahhhh, yes I see it now. ...well color me embarrassed. Should still be sleeping, I suppose. I didn't even realize it was the same DougJones as my signature. Post: YOSTED.
  17. You're just ignorant. It's up to the players to execute no matter what the situation is. Jenkins should have found a way to hit that ball in the dirt (off a LHP) to prevent that weird hit-and-run from failing miserably. And it's just blind luck that Cordero got out of that inning with a strikeout, while somebody like Aquino throws wild pitches and gives up triples. Stop holding Yost accountable for the things that have happened to this team. It's just not fair! Yikes. Yost Certainly can and should be held accountable for putting his players in a position to succeed, based on the given situation - basically the only in-game responsibility of a manager. Once those decisions are made, of course the players have to be held accountable for succeeding in that situation. But TLB very plainly outlined a couple situations where, based on past experience (which - other than "gut instinct" - is all there is to go by in baseball), it is fairly plain to see which players would have been put in a better position to succeed. Calling someone ignorant is not intelligent discussion.
  18. UECK! give me a break. My reception is coming in and out and I was under the impression that JJ hit a grand slam for about two full minutes.
  19. I'm with Stevo and stoutdude. Plus, it just sounds better for the brewers to still be able to pick up a game, even if its not the "net result of the day".
  20. Well I didn't say I enjoyed any of those other ones. I'm a high life man at heart.
  21. I also have a tender place in my heart for Kul beer out of La Crosse. Lots of that during the college parties as well... Beautiful, Hammer. Were you a screaming eagle too? Kul reminds me a lot of water, but I love water. Also out of City Brewery in La Crosse (although probably not of much help to you out in Portland, TLB - guess you'll just have to come back for a visit): - La Crosse Lager - actually fairly tasty - La Crosse Light - actually extremely disgusting, but you get what you pay for - Golden Leaf - wheaty, but delicious - City Winter Porter (seasonal) - I'm not a porter guy, but I can enjoy it - Festbier (seasonal) - genuine Oktoberfest style all-malt lager. It's a little rich, but come oktober... when in rome. On a slightly related topic, if any of you get the chance to head up to La Crosse for the Oktoberfest festivities, you won't regret it.

  23. bases clearing triple! go pirates (for just one more day)!!
  24. Silverchair - Straight Lines I just want to brag about the clever jukebox plug I made last weekend. Straight Lines by Silverchair and Crooked Teeth by Death Cab. I didn't even realize the opposite names until after... but boy did I just love sitting back and watching everyone in the bar enjoy those songs, even if they didn't realize they were enjoying them. I've had "I Grieve" by Peter Gabriel in my head all week for some reason and the hymn "Great is Thy Thankfulness" because I had to play it 6 times in Church on Sunday.
  25. If I get in my car and proceed to go 120 MPH, I could very well crash my car. I also might not. However, the chances that I will are way higher than if I were to simply go on the highway and set my cruise at 70 MPH. Not a bad analogy, but I guess the issue being debated is more of: how quickly do you need to get where you're going? If your wife is deep in labor beside you, you might consider pushing 100 MPH or more so you can control the scenario a little. Do the Brewers think the risks associated with pushing Yo's limit are worth their increased chances of making the playoffs? A tough spot - yet another decision I'm glad I don't have to make. Also the argument about the old timers just doesn't hold up for me. Everything about the game is different than it was then. Pitchers are throwing much harder, and much harder earlier in their lives.
