  1. Agreed. All of us became fans at one point or another, this same couple could know simply everything about the history of the brewers in a year or two. I would think this would have been a great opportunity to spread the glory of stormin gorman with some new fans.
  2. Oh I know BC, I was trying to agree with you and further the point. Sorry for the confusion.
  3. I would actually add one more variable: (Small strike zone + soft tossing control pitcher) * Colorado's Offense = lots of runs given up It's easy as fans to look at only how the players we see everyday effect the game, but Colorado has the best offense in the league. I think we all can agree that Carlos V has been fairly effective this year, but I think we can also agree that he fell into that equation last night just as much as Cappy, if not more. Does that make him a head case? Against any other team, Cappy or CV could have maybe gotten away with some of the walks last night, but not Colorado, not right now. Plus I don't think any other team is taking as many of those "close" pitches - Hawpe is a walking machine. That being said, it's no excuse for as poorly as Cappy has been pitching lately, just another thing to keep in mind.
  4. Very interesting article. That certainly puts things in perspective. It can be hard for me to have that mindset knowing that the drafted talent won't be seeing playing time in the bigs for at least a couple years (if ever). I'll put myself into the camp of people who never really get overly excited for the draft, but after reading that article, I'll be sure to pay more attention next time.
  5. A pinched strike zone + Colorado offense = holy schnikeys
  6. I was a little surprised too based on the way Ned has usually responded to this situation, but with a rested bullpen, why take anymore chances?
  7. Well obviously I'm going to just alternate Mondays and Tuesdays for the rest of the season. I'll go into work every day and make sure I ask everyone how their weekend was every other day (my 'Mondays')
  8. I really hope this is true and I tend to agree with you, although I don't know if I necessarily think that there's "no reason". Cappy has struggled over the second half over the past few seasons (relative to his strong first halves), which doesn't necessarily equate to repeated behavior, but it's also a definite possibility. I think it's just as possible that Weeks will shake out of it and go on a complete tear, which will hopefully be the case as well. Braun could fall off from his rabid upper .300 pace and struggle defensively, (I am knocking on wood and turning around three times and spitting and all that stuff, don't worry). Long seasons, ebbs and flows, blah blah blah, but these do not good radio make.
  9. Found it really interesting the announcer talking about minor league grounds crews only having 3 guys and the players having to regularly go out and help them out. Pretty interesting. I see where you were coming from Jason - even if I don't agree with it - but don't worry big guy, we've all been down the retraction road.
  10. It's a long screw used to hold a tent into the ground.
  11. I like the outside of the box thinking and in theory it looks pretty sweet. If Sheets or Bush struggled at all however (not at all outside of the realm of possibility), there wouldn't really be anywhere to go as Villanueva and Gallardo would have been used fairly extensively a couple days before. Also, if Yost were to all of a sudden use this philosophy and stick to it, without making it public... boy oh boy, he would never hear the end of it. I think the overall appealing concept of this post is that with the addition of Gallardo (and the apparently impending addition of Parra?) the Brewers have the obvious ability to give a struggling starter a shorter leash and go to one of the two (or three with Parra) future starters out of the pen and be in decent shape. (Realized after I typed this that it may be better suited for the Bullpen Management thread, didn't mean to hijack)
  12. My dad and I were talking and he brought up an interesting point. It sure seems like Hart's streak has flown under the radar a lot more than Hardy's earlier this season. Why is that? At first I thought it was because of all of Hardy's home runs, but Hart has hit his fare share (and important shots, to boot) is it becuase the brewers aren't as hot as they were?
  13. I just find it funny how the guy is almost celebrating the fact that the Cubs are still behind the Brewers by X number of games. Might be below the belt, but I'd just send him text messages that just say "Prior" or "Bartman" - something along those lines.
  14. Pink is my favorite color. Keep rolling, Mr. President!
  15. Booyah! I love the Nationals! Now, just because you score 4 in the first doesn't mean you have to go silent the rest of the game, offense!
  16. That live from Summerfest thing is actually really awesome on Brewers Live. Sweet Brewers song too.
  17. Lock it quick! (Since we lost 8-1 to the Twins on the 18th of May!)
  18. I'll be the first to call a great start by Bush to get the Brewers back on track: 7.2 IP 2ER 4H 6K 1BB Weeks is going 2-4 with a huge HR.
  19. I actually will take that bet http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Stay hot Bucs!
  20. Couldn't this also be evidence of a pending Parra trade? "The lefty who is racing to the majors on the back of a perfecto..." Wouldn't his trade value go even higher if he had a couple nice appearances with the big league club? I won't pretend to know anything in this department - I would think that if Parra is seriously being brought up it would have to either be temporary or because of an injury or trade we aren't aware of.
  21. I will definitely second this. It was hard to think it was written by the same genius behind Jurassic Park.
  22. I really have never understood the reasoning behind ranking pitchers. Aside from the 5th starter, they all start almost the same number of games (excluding injuries) right? What difference does it make if we call Capuano #2 and Suppan #3 or vice versa? Aside from switching someone out of the rotation, the number that I associate with each pitcher is going to do nothing to change their performance.
  23. I want to thank everyone for their plugs for "100 years of solitude." I'm about halfway through and I can't put it down...
