  1. Not sure how many here are "fans" of Prince Fielder on Facebook....he has been pretty active lately, which is really cool - even posted fan photos from Opening Day and chose one of them as his profile pic. Anyway, today's status update reads: glad to see Yovani locked up for the next 5 years. hopin i'll be next. It's good to hear that he wants to be a Brewer....it doesn't seem like lip service. Hopefully we can get the $$ right.
  2. A near statistical mirror in BA, but great point in the insanely over-hyped OPS stat...let's see where it matters in the runs and rbi dept. Higher OBP = on base more often = more runs (you have to be on base to score, after all) Higher SLG = more extra-base hits = easier to drive in runs = more RBI It ain't rocket surgery.
  3. Good Lord....the overreactions thus far are comical. I actually winced while reading the Opening Day IGT....before Gomez and Edmonds stepped to the plate, they were already the suckiest sucks who ever sucked.
  4. I'd be wary of the Gomez scouting report; ubiquitous use of the word "homeboy" indicates that it may have been written in the late-1990s.
  5. Per McCalvy, Narveson starts tomorrow's game vs. the Angels, with Parra coming on in relief. Suppan to pitch in Minor League camp (YES!)
  6. FWIW, one of my friends just tipped me off to this from Jim Bowden's twitter feed: Doug Melvin just told us Gallardo, Wolf, Davis and Bush will be first 4 starters...while Parra or Narveson likely the 5th:Suppan to bullpen?
  7. They're an enormous company with profit margins that are being defined for each SKU by somebody sitting at a desk in Minneapolis. I'm sure that letting any product leave the store at less than the sticker price is a good way to get fired.
  8. Wow...I feel like an idiot. For however many years Lunardi has been doing this, I always thought it was a future indicator. Makes sense now. Thanks for schooling me, GB.
  9. I'm going to be attending a bachelor party in New Orleans next weekend (groom is a fellow UW alum)....needless to say, I'm liking that bracket. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's amazing how much his predictions shifted in one day...this morning Lunardi had the Badgers as a 4 seed with the "moving down" arrow, and now we're a 3 "moving up"? It seems like he thinks that MSU and Purdue's losses will be more damaging than ours. (I'd be inclined to agree after watching Purdue today.) Tomorrow should be exciting.
  10. Reading these I keep thinking of that song by Adam Ant...."don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?" I've never posted in this thread. Oh, drat.
  11. Actually, they're launching a TMZ Sports division.....Deadspin had a whole bunch of stories on it awhile back. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/28/business/media/28tmz.html
  12. I hate it when we're on FOX....I live on the West Coast and can guarantee that I'll miss those matchups with the Phillies and Cardinals. Especially disappointing on the first weekend of the season, when I need my baseball fix.
  13. I think somebody over at Buckyville mentioned that during the brief moment that Rob was in the game, the team gave up 3 consecutive 3-point baskets. I'm guessing that Bo may not have liked what he saw from Wilson defensively.
  14. I agree with this for the most part. Also, I'm generally booing the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back. Yeah, I enjoyed watching Jeromy Burnitz when he was a Brewer....but he's out on the field wearing a Pirates jersey. I want the Pirates to lose the game. So booooooooooooooooo. (Couldn't think of a more recent example http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)
  15. Not sure if any of you saw this, but 2K Sports is giving away $1 million to the first person that throws a verified perfect game in MLB 2K10. http://www.ztgamedomain.com/9132/Win-1Million-Bucks-With-MLB2K10.html
  16. It's interesting, though....they obviously had enough resources to offer Chappelle a $50M deal. Now that was somewhat different because DVD sales were tied in (and that really wouldn't carry over to a late night variety show) but Viacom has deep pockets. With the right advertiser support, who knows? I'd hope that the Comedy Central chief would at least explore it.
  17. Wolf's salary is $9.25M. The $5.25 is already taking the $4M into account. He's talking about nate82's calculation....still had Wolf listed at 9.25.
  18. The news about the Wolf deferral was a pleasant surprise....gives me hope that we could still be in the running for a Duchscherer or similar bargain FA pitcher in January. I'd prefer a trade that brought in cost-controlled, high upside pitching talent but if free agency is what it takes to push Suppan to the bullpen, I'm all for it.
  19. I don't agree with the perception that he can't be a starter on a consistent basis. He was starting games in Tacoma and Seattle for the entire 2nd half of 2009, and finished the season with a fantastic game (8IP, 1H, 0 ER). If he was so much opposed to starting games because of the diabetes and felt the team was putting his health at risk, he would have filed a grievance with the union. Seems to me that he's found a way to work through it. Admittedly, I don't know how it feels to deal with that ailment but players have done it before - Adam Morrison is a good example, he was able to manage things well enough to play a 2-hour basketball game. Either way, I'm sure Doug & Gord would do their due diligence and talk to him before finalizing any deal.
  20. Obviously Bradley has the potential to be a powder keg, but I get the sense that Junior Griffey (and, to a lesser extent, Ichiro) sort of "own" that Seattle clubhouse and would be able to keep him in check. Maybe I'm wrong - guess we'll find out in a few months.
  21. Now THAT's irony.
  22. My dislike of MU has nothing to do with academia. They're rivals! Do I ever want to see the Cubs, Vikings or Gophers win at anything? No, no and no. Why would Marquette be any different. Also, changing nicknames a half-dozen times and employing a fake-tanning coach makes for a pretty easy target. (Boom. Roasted.) http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/d6315a4796deaf652198ccfe34b55adacc01812.pjpg
  23. It's also worth noting that the two sub-par performance stretches during those 8 years were when he was pitching in the AL East. But if there's one thing I've learned in 5 years reading this board, it's that any time a pitcher over 30 puts up good numbers, he got lucky. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  24. The FOX Sports winter meetings blog speculated that if the Cardinals landed Penny, Smoltz would be looking elsewhere. Wonder if the Brewers will express interest.
