  1. Sorry to hear that, Brian. I'll miss having you there. As said above, hope things improve for you.
  2. The ump didn't miss that call, it was borderline at best, probably a ball. He did however have some bad luck that inning, a pretty wimpy 2-out "double" turned a quick inning into a three run inning. On the other hand, it's definitely depressing to know we have a rotation made up of so many guys who are basically locks to get pulled somewhere in the 6th every time out -- Bush, Parra, Villy.
  3. My vent: five paragraph non-vents cluttering up the vent thread!
  4. Sweet. Actually, if the game is cancelled but the rain is stopped or light, I will be hitting a driving range somewhere before doing any bar-hopping ... if anyone's interested in that, too.
  5. If the game is cancelled, anyone interested in meeting up for drinks and watching the game? Doing laundry instead of playing baseball is saddening....
  6. Perfectly said, let's worry about ending our 25 year embarassment first and then get all luvvy-duvvy, bleeding-heart with our players after that. Being a fan doesn't mean grandma-esque coddling, gushing, and reassurance. Personally, I've been waiting for this day for years. I hated the contract he was signed to, and expressed my opinion as such at the time. Turnbow has always been erratic, inconsistent, scared, smoke&mirrors, lucky, and way over his head. It caught up to him a while ago, and just now we've finally done something about it. See ya.
  7. Perception is a funny thing. I'm always of the opinion that this board is way too positive/optimistic and should be more negative/pesimistic. And regarding "winning baseball", the quote in my signature by FTJ says it best....
  8. I don't think the official practices are in the HC, I think they're at Sijan field. I probably can't make it this saturday, got a 7:00 am tee time in southern chicago suburbs.
  9. Good ol' fuzzy channel 8. My padres weren't big into paying for TV (cable), so that was the best we got. I remember it being 99% hip-hop, but it was also the first time I ever saw a Scorpions video on TV ("Between the Eyes" from the Crazy World album).
  10. '82 Trans Am for the summer, '85 Daytona for the winter. This was 96-98. http://www.packrat911.com/tabra02.jpg Summer Ride (sans bra) http://www.murphyauctions.net/images/kenmore07may/1252.jpg Winter Beater
  11. Don't be afraid to save some money and go with the bleachers for one of the games. Left field bleachers are very good seats as far as I'm concerned. You lose a good look at the scoreboard, but you feel closer to the action than you'd expect. The bleachers don't have individual seats, but they do have backs on them -- comfortable enough. Bleachers are usually not the classless drunkfest you hear about at places like Wrigley. The 300-level is a nice change of pace. It's purposely "classier", with a concourse that's more like an airport or hotel than a stadium. Miller Park staff comes to your seats to wait on you, take your order, bring you your food, etc.
  12. I'm surprised it's cancelled, we got quite a downpour earlier, but it hasn't rained since noon ... with a good deal of sun ... and it looks pretty dry out there. *shrug*
  13. Kelvin Sampson to be assistant coach? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3365899
  14. One last chance to be corny. "Two gaBEs, or not two gaBEs" ...that was the question. Apparently "not" was the answer. With the Phillies in town tomorrow, maybe this is just to clear a quick spot for Jenks to suit up one last time as a Brewer. Celebrity guest whiff. It would bring down the house.
  15. Baseball Prospectus: "A second round pick in 2006, Josh Butler is a big righty with a heavy sinker that generates tons of groundballs." 6' 5", 200 lbs. A move I'm happy about, sacrificing some power/obp for defense/avg/fundamentals/speed is okay by me when we're talking about the 4th/5th outfielder. Especially when the latter still has upside and the rest of the team already has plenty of defensive deficiencies.
  16. Nice, looks like we've got 4 then? Crazy, what's your schedule for Wednesday evening? I think the current plan is to meet up with Houlie somewhere outside the park at 6:10-ish to drive in together, Kenny is going to meet us at the stadium 'cos he works there.
  17. "Cleave" can mean to divide/split apart or to adhere/cling together. I always thought that was kindof neat.
  18. Gimme breakfast food anytime, anywhere. French toast (with loads of powdered sugar), scrambled eggs, fried eggs, omelets, waffles, fruit, bacon, sausage, toast, english muffins, jams, jellys, orange juice, milk, oatmeal, cocoa wheats, pancakes, and 200 amazing cold cereals. Five years ago I tried to organize Brek Fest 2003 at the summerfest grounds but I couldn't get funding.
  19. Taking my contact lenses out tonight made me think "contact play" and I considered gouging my eyes out right then and there.
  20. Sweet man, let me know. Radman interested? Anyone else?
  21. Looks like I might have four tickets from work to Wednesday night's game. Anyone here interested in going? Looking to fill the other 3. Ticket free, parking free, 300 level. 7:05 against the Phillies.
  22. Hope practice went well, I was too sore from practice on Tuesday and the Team #2 game the night before so I took the day off. Should be there this weekend.
