  1. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I remember hearing that Sheets now lives in Dallas and not Louisiana which certainly puts the Rangers on the map. But I am on board with the possibility that he accepts arbitration and takes a 1 year deal with Milwaukee. If not, Houston, Atlanta, or Texas are the call for me.
  2. Blancofan...I just hit you back. Check your inbox...thanks
  3. Hello All, According to the tentative schedule, game 3 is scheduled to be played in Milwaukee this Saturday. I have two tickets in the Terrace Reserve for the game however due to an unforeseen circumstance, I am unable to attend on Saturday. While I am completely disheartened by the fact that I cannot attend this Saturday, I am wondering if anyone who might have tickets to game 4 tentatively scheduled for Sunday in Milwaukee might be interested in a trade. To help sweeten the deal, here is what I am offering: 1. Game 3 in MKE is guaranteed to be played so you WILL see a playoff game 2. If you are offering tickets in a higher level section I will pay the cost difference 3. In the event game 4 is not played, I will allow you to keep the ticket refund in addition to any cost adjustment paid by me under condition 2. I am located in Wauwatosa but would be willing to make arrangements to allow an exchange to take place within a reasonable distance. Please PM me directly if you have any interest in making this exchange.
  4. Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever pulled a career change, complete with leaving your current job, going back to school and getting a new degree, and then going on to a new career? I am strongly considering going down this path in the near future. Been working in the world of finance for 7 years since graduating from UWM and find it to be absolutely unfulfilling and not at all a good fit for me personally. I have tried finding other roles within my current company and other companies but nothing is working out to my liking. Just wondering if there is advice one could give someone in my position.
  5. My major concern with U-Verse is the quality of the HD signal vs. TWC & DirecTV. Just about all of the reviews that I am reading indicate that the quality is a bit below that of TWC and DirecTV. For me, I am a DirecTV customer and after reading tons of favorable customer reviews and enough bad experiences I switched from TWC in November 2007, even though I could have also gone U-Verse. However, I haven't been able to drink the D* Kool-Aid because I got so sick of dusting off the dish during the daily snow we got in Wauwatosa and I am currently not thrilled that the signal breaks up every time there is a storm in the area. On top of that, I am paying more now with D* when I factor in the Roadrunner and TV service and I no longer receive HBO or Cinemax. If I could be assured that the HD picture quality of U-Verse were comparable to D* or TWC, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
  6. Last year taught me not to get too caught up in the early season ups and downs. But at the same time, if your team is playing well and blowing out the opposition, you will get excited. If the Brewers started doing what the Cubs are doing now regardless of how many home and road games and the quality of the opposition, fans here would be reacting the same way and I don't doubt that some of the young players would be alluding to some of the same things like the playoffs. But my advice to any Cubs fan would be that to enjoy it while it lasts because it is a long season and you aren't going to consistently beat the opposition by 8-9 runs a game.
  7. While I don't expect the Cubs to run away with the division I do agree that the bullpen has a decent chance of being horrible. I wouldn't place much of that chance on Turnbow, though, because he won't be pitching in critical situations. I do believe that Gagne is going to be very hit or miss this year. He has had just as many bad appearances as good ones. I think that we could have gotten the same or better production out of a pitcher being paid $3mm vs. $10mm. So, I can see where Stone is coming from saying that the pen will be bad because of Turnbow and Gagne but I don't think Turnbow will be given the opportunity to take us out of too many games Also - if the bullpen is going to be the Achilles heal it will be due in part to the starting pitching not getting beyond the 5th inning. Seems like we have had a lot of that in the past week.
  8. Thanks. I have heard that Paradise Valley is where a lot of the high-end homes are and where a lot of the athletes live off-season. But still, good suggestion. Is there lots to do in this area or would we end up driving everywhere?
  9. My fiancee and I are kicking the tires on potentially relocating to the Phoenix area from Milwaukee. I have visited the area a couple of times but am not sure where to even start looking. We are getting married next year and wouldn't make any move until after then. What I am wondering are if there are any areas that should be avoided and if there are any stable spots. We are both in our late 20's, I work in finance and she is an elementary school teacher. Ideally, we'd be somewhat close to our jobs. Anyone have any ideas as to how best to approach this? I'd definitely consider renting for a little while before buying anything.
  10. I think that this is one of those issues where you will have people on both sides of the discussion. I do believe that there are more people who would prefer the roof to be open than closed when the temperature is in the 50's or even the 60's. I have sat in the shade at Miller Park when the temperature was in the low 60's with the roof open and was pretty chilly. I much prefer having the roof closed when the temp is in the 50's. The bigger beef I have is when they close the roof in summer before the game even starts when there is like a 10% chance of rain in Iowa that may work its way into Milwaukee by the 8th inning. And to those who say that the roof is driven by the almighty dollar I say thanks to the roof, more than anything else, for allowing this team to have an $80mm payroll. Without it, attendance would most likely be a lot lower and we'd have a lot lower chance of being a competitive team. FWIW - Views or not, the people in Minnesota are not going to be flocking to their new ballpark in April and May once the newness novelty wears off.
  11. I don't post here very often but I do read the site religiously and the thought of being shut down for a week, not fun. The thought of having to search all of the numerous websites for baseball news on my own or gasp...spending more time with the fiancee, yikes. I will say that I knew that this was a joke as soon as financial considerations were mentioned as a reason. I will put my money where my mouth is and provide support as I am able when the next drive to increase capital is upon us. I only like April Fools Day when the joke's not on me. Boo to you Jamie...
  12. I think that for actual game production they do a decent job getting good camera angles and having quality equipment. Their HighDef production is of exceptional quality. I don't care for how during all of the Monday Night Football broadcasts they brought some actor into the booth to pimp their new movie every week. If I want to know about what is going on in Hollywood I will check out Extra or read People. I am hoping that doesn't carry over into the baseball broadcasts. I also agree with the force feeding of opinions. Most everyone can see that the bulk of these ex-players are just reading off of a teleprompter and aren't really telling their side of the story. On the flipside, I think that even though he pushes the Red Sox way too much (and I do like the Red Sox) that Gammons does a pretty decent job. Same for Kurkjian and Jayson Stark. I think that those guys actually have connections to the front offices, have helped write some decent books, and have decent general insight that guys like Kruk and Vina don't have. So, while I get annoyed by many of the antics of ESPN, they are still a good place to go for highlights - as long as you watch Baseball Tonight. I barely watch Sportscenter anymore.
  13. As of 3/18 still no 9 pack in Wauwatosa. I was wondering about the last name thing as mine begins with a W. I am giving it until Friday
  14. From what I hear, the Brewers are very pleased with their facilities at Maryvale. I was out there a few years ago and, even though the park is located in probably not the greatest area, it is in fantastic shape. The fact that they haven't drawn well in the past few years could be more of an issue with the lousy teams of days gone by. Listening to the games this spring it sounds like they are drawing some nice crowds. Also, I don't think that we will be seeing any teams moving to Florida from Arizona. The parks are much more conveniently located in and around Phoenix, with the exception of a couple of teams in Tucson, and the weather is much better. I don't believe the Brewers have ever trained in Florida and I would be stunned if they made the move there.
  15. I also fully expect Melvin's streak of not going to arbitration while with the Brewers to end next year and will continue to go to hearings for the subsequent two years after that with Prince. I completely agree with others who say that if Prince wants to get paid this year he needs to give the Brewers a little incentive to do so ala a multi-year deal.
  16. I am upset that I didn't even think about the in-game thread until 10:50a CT on the day of the first game of the spring. Man, winter in Wisconsin has been awfully hard on the brain this year. Here's looking forward to the inaugural thread to the 2008 season.
  17. DTV already has an HD version of 642 as they have been using it to show the Bucks when they are in HD. Unfortunately, they turn it off when there is no game in HD being played. Don't need to subscribe to any special package. But, I believe that this will be blacked out if you aren't in a Brewers local zip code. Pitch...I think that you had said that you were located in Arizona so you would need to order up the MLB Extra Innings. Correct me if I am wrong on that
  18. I, like Brett, am also pacing myself because that 10K comes up pretty quickly and want my 10,000th post to really count. At my current pace I expect to be making some serious commentary as we approach the trading deadline in the 2028 baseball season as we are debating whether or not to trade Ryan Braun Jr. to the Las Vegas Devil Rays.
  19. I believe that people who enjoy games in cold weather are in a small minority. I remember back to the County Stadium days of 8,000 in attendance in April and September while now we can get at least get 20,000+ during the week and weekends during the cold weather months. Bottom line, if you prefer cold weather you still won't stay away from Miller Park if it the roof is closed but if you do hate sitting through a cold weather game, you won't bother showing up. That means fewer dollars and a payroll that is not anywhere near approaching $75 million. I believe that the Twins will be on the other side of this discussion in a few short years.
  20. Thanks for the comments. I am still not totally convinced that I am ready to deal with some of the issues surrounding the TV side but the price may be right. The number of HD channels does look nice compared to Time Warner and I only own 1 HD TV set so it won't be an issue watching two HD channels at once. Did I hear that with the service you also get the YES network? How about NESN (I am a closet Red Sox fan). Also, do they make you sign any sort of contract and are you charged a monthly rental rate for the equipment?
  21. In an offshoot to the ISP thread, I am considering switching from Time Warner cable and Roadrunner over to the U-verse. I am just wondering if anyone has tried AT&T's service and if so, how is it? It looks like U-verse has a better HD lineup but I don't know about the other channels. I am also wondering what the picture quality is like, service problems, etc. I am not interested in any of the Direct TV or Dish right now but am certainly interested in hearing about anything about U-verse.
  22. If you live in an apartment building on Commerce St. let me know because I'd be very interested in hearing more about the current situation by you. The fact that they are treating all of the units is a good idea and I don't think that my apartment manager is doing that. I kind of wish that they would.
  23. I wonder if we live in the same building because I too am dealing with bed bugs right now. There is really nothing legally for you to do if the landlord gets the exterminator in there and tries to get rid of them. I had to throw out my mattress, box spring, and frame because of the bugs and my renters insurance did not cover the loss. I want to emphasize that you absolutely need to have an exterminator come out to deal with the problem. Bed bugs are impossible to get rid of on your own and from what I am finding is that it takes multiple trips from the exterminator to make things better. I have had the exterminator out twice in the past month and I occasionally find a bug or two but I am going to continue to have the exterminator out until I am certain that they are gone. The landlord is responsible for paying for the landlord and if your landlord says that they won't pay, then you may want to give the city a call.
  24. Casey, Could you be so kind as to refresh my memory as to how they screwed up the Perkins acquisition? Thanks
  25. I didn't mean that the fact that he is critical of the NBA refs is the only reason to not want to sell to him. I think the owners will have a bigger problem with a guy who is free to spend as much as he pleases which, in turn, will make it harder for them to bid on free agents. That isn't to say another owner wouldn't do the same but there is no reason to believe that Cuban wouldn't. But still, the Cubs getting competent management and ownership is one of my biggest fears.
