When the Cardinals win the division (they are only 5.5 out now) Plus they have 14 games with the Cubs & Crew -- and if they can get Mulder back by the end of the year. The Cards are far from out of it.

Braun also has the 2nd most RBI in the NL since the day he came up, so its hard to be upset with his RBI totals. Sure -- but, if he had more dudes in front of him in the lineup with better OBP -- he'd have more runs driven in. -- I am certainly in no way shape or fashion upset with what Braun has done... We probably have one of the best 3-4 punches in all of baseball, it seems like we'd score more runs/win more games with dudes getting on base better -- that has been a disappointment for me.

I tend to agree with the last post. I think that there are some positives -- certainly Braun and Yo are the real deal -- but even with Braun's brilliance, this team seems to be losing more games than they are winning. It seems like we had our one hole filled by Braun in June, only to have the whole dike burst. I think the rotation is especially disappointing, with none of the pitchers seemingly able to get out of the 6th inning regularly, and Sheets hurt again, this time probably intentionally. The team's overall approach at the plate seems to me to be a disappointment as well. You would think with Fielder and Braun having MVP caliber seasons, they would have driven in more runs than they have.

I would agree that 90 wins seems a bit ambitious. The interesting thing, is that the Cards have 14 games against the Brewers (6) and Cubs (eight) -- so if they decided to go on a hot streak -- they could control a lot of their destiny, especially with both the Cubs and Crew slumping, Cards fans can probably be somewhat optimistic given they are 7 under .500 this late in the season. I think though that the WC team doesn't look like it will be a Central team anymore.

It's amazing you can be killed on impact driving 20 MPH -- it shows how incredibly dangerous it is to have a rider in front of the driver.

I've made that trip a lot in my days -- I hope you go through Coeur d'alene -- It has lots of white supremacists, and a lot of beautiful water. I totally dig South Dakota, and Montana for that matter as well. Have a safe trip.

This ties into the evaluation factor. When a team is struggling, and starting pitching and bullpen have been shaky, then do you agree that no other manager would make a difference? I disagree with this 100% -- Certainly if a manager misuses a bullpen throughout the course of a season, no manager is going to make a gassed arm throw better. However, a different manager may have not gotten you into that predicament. Generally speaking though when people make statements like "no other manager could have done better with these players" it is nothing more than hand-waving, and there is no study or support that goes into these sorts of statements. If we say it lies with the players themselves, then are we not damning the GM to some degree, for building the roster is his responsibility and that includes both the physical and mental make-up of the players he selects. Yes. Now we can blame the manager, if young blossoming players in 2006 did not get enough ABs, and consequentially are still cutting their teeth in 2007, but certainly the GM needs to take some heat for not making moves. It's hard to criticize GMs though because you just don't know what happens in their universe -- for example -- I think that the Brewers tend to hold on to players past their trading peak (Vargas e.g.) I am critical of DM because he didn't move Vargas when he had a 9-2 record and not so bad ERA -- of course other GMs may have seen exactly what I did, an inflated W-L record and steered clear of Claudio, so it is really hard to be assured that the fault is on Melvin, of course DM did trade for CV though.....

These owners have to learn to control themselves a bit more. 30 million for this guy is just plain stupid. I don't know -- this will sell a lot of tickets and jerseys. I don't doubt this isn't a value deal, but I suspect that the Diamondback fans will be happy.

If they could just put him on the DL, I'm sure they would. I get the impression that Ned & Doug, were just hoping Wise could pitch his way through it. I won't pretend that I know in an absolute manner what the DL rules are, however, if it something that is treatable, it should be something that Wise could go on the DL for. I would hope he could get a note from the Dr. that says he needs some time off, and some sort of rehab. -- I do remember Jim Eisenreich going on the DL in the 80s for Tourette's Syndrome, so I don't think "mental problems" are something that the DL does not handle. Otherwise just keep Matt headed to the salad bar, and its just a matter of time before he gets tonged again.

Wes Helms needs to relax and think about all the money he stole from this organization and block out the boos. Get a helmet Wes. I think Wes was trying to make a point, that when you boo a marginal player like him, it gives the player more motivation.
