  1. Is it possible to trade a manager? It certainly has happened -- Chuck Tanner got traded for Manny Sanguillen -- however that was in 1973, I am not sure that the current labor agreements would allow for it.
  2. I don't see how any reasonable person can blame the Brewers for not trying to re-sign Sheets before this season. When BF.net had this discussion in the past -- I recall most of the posters here were against signing Sheets to an extension -- so I agree with the above sentiment in a general sort of way -- there were definitely people though that wanted DM to lock up Sheets with an extension, so I could certainly understand why those dudes would be a bit rankled right about now. In the comments someone speculated that he might prefer a 3 year contract so he can once again be a free agent at 33 as opposed to 35 (if he signed a 5 year deal). Sign me up for $47/3 for sure. I'd be surprised if Ben opted for the short deal. I think he will get both the years and $$$ he wants.
  3. (There is precedent...Chuck Tanner and Lou Piniella were both 'traded' for players.) I know Chuck Tanner was traded for Manny Sanguillen -- I don't think Pinella was traded as a manager. I'd be interested to learn otherwise. From an outsider's perspective, Yost has helped turn the 'pathetic' Brewers into a perennial contender-- I would hope Braves fans would realize that what turned around the Brewers was an infusion of young talent. and he was clearly well-liked in Atlanta as a coach. I don't doubt this. I like Bill Castro and Ed Sedar -- I am not sure I'd want them as managers though. I think liking him as a coach would be the wrong reasons to hire Yost, and I think the ATL could do a lot better than Yost -- as I agree that the Braves managing gig, is one of the best in MLB.
  4. I don't think there is any doubt that Sheets is in the pack -- I think Volquez has the inside track at this point.
  5. If someone's going to throw gobs of money at him ala Carlos Lee, there's nothing that you can do about it, and in my opinion, nothing you should do about it. At this point. I think things could have been done a year ago, but at this point it looks like Ben's next contract is going to get fatter and more obscene. If he pitches the rest of the season like he did in his last start, he will get leave the Brewers, but we should be in a good place in either the WC or divisional standings.
  6. since when is tony graffanino equal to russell branyan on brewerfan.net? ??? I'm not sure what this means -- I think for the most part people are just glad to see that his injury was not career ending.
  7. I have more posts than you so go make me a sandwich. If you'll eat it, I'll make it...
  8. I don't like naming names, but I know that one person who was recently banned had 1,000+ posts. I am more curious about the post count than the name of the banned...
  9. I'm not to 1000 posts yet. You have to have "thousands" of posts -- not a single thousand. I do have a question.... Which poster holds the record for highest post count when they were banished? -- Has anyone made 4 digits then gotten the hammer?
  10. Now eventually they may adjust that but for the month he's been up he's gotten pitches to hit and to his credit he's hit them and hit them hard. Yeah -- I think pitchers have been aggressive going after RB up until this point -- that will probably change now.
  11. Anyone else struck by the irony of the creepy internet troll complaining about people not posting actual pictures of themselves, when the reason for doing that is because of the creepy people trolling the internet? All I know is that you would get +1000 hit points if you changed your silly "Fan Forum Director" title to the mega-awesome "Poet/Ponytail Guy" title. I think it is obvious that Brewers19 isn't going to be with us for a long time. I have narrowed his departure down to the following 4 scenarios... 1.) Gets drunk on power, succumbs to the banhammer. 2.) Gets drunk on Olde English, succumbs to late night shark tank swim. 3.) Devoured by penguins. 4.) Becomes a Cubs fan. When B19 leaves us, we will need another "Poet/Ponytail Guy" to fill his shoes. I think it is a title of honor, and probably the essence of what separates BF.net from every other sports message board on the interwebs. This is a title you don't chose, the title chooses you.
  12. Copetitude. I'd say it's about at 86%.
  13. I've been meaning to talk to you about your avatar. Anything you need to say to me, you can say to my avatar.
  14. Najeh's Closet Surprises Touchdown Here Idiot Kickers
  15. Anyway, I took a gander at the "about us" page and ... yeah ... wow. Wow -- you guys seem to suck. Looks like you need to turn it up to 11 on the about us page. Then there were my two favorites, some poet-looking ponytail guy and best of all, a guy named Jim Goulart who I think is actually Mike Krzyzewski in Brewers gear. Jim is one of my favorites as well -- the poet-ponytail guy not so much. Basically they got a message board run by Hitler but they think they're the be all end all of everything Brewers. I thought BF.net was run like Arby's, right? -- Didn't we decide BF.net = Arby's?
  16. I don't think consecutive posts are ever the issue -- the IGT thread is littered with them, and threads like Robert's movies, often have back to back posts because he is the predominant poster -- or even Mass Haas's minor league stuff.... To me at least, the thing that has bothered me, is when people will comment on 2 or 3 different posts in a thread, in new separate posts -- when it could be all done in one post. It's always been more of an efficiency or condensing issue for me.
  17. I think Counsell would decline if he played every day for long stretches -- because he is older. If I were Yost, I'd certainly try to keep him sharp though.
  18. Bobby Higginson was a guy like Hall who got a big contract, then really fell off badly for a couple of years. About the same age as Hall when he did that. Interesting Comparison
  19. My vent is that FtJ stole my "hive mind" line, I did. Guilty as charged. I don't think I got a fair deal. Yep. In others regards as well perhaps... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. What, did you learn a new phrase this week, and you're trying to let everyone know? Can we please stop this. Sure. Please understand it's frustrating when arguments in support of Yost are based on positions no one on BF.net ever takes. I feel the need to vent about that. Does the fact that he said "all" Yost haters would respond really make that big of a deal. I think "all" is a pretty easy word to use correctly. I take care not to make such absolute statements. You do know the saying Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Right? That is exactly what I was referencing with that. No you weren't -- You said this: "And if Yost doesn't go with Hall in that situation you have all the Yost haters out there screaming for him to be fired because he let Branyan hit and not Hall." I am a "Yost-hater", I would have been AOK with Ned letting Branyan hit. It is incredibly frustrating when people treat all critics of Yost like we have some sort of hive mind. I understand that Yost is "damned" one way or the other, in a lot of decisions -- and that is part of his job. He will never make everyone happy. It is aggravating to try and put together well thought out (but perhaps not correct) and consistent arguments about Yost -- only to have people treat me as if I (or others critical of Yost) am so stupid that all I do is wait for Yost to do something, and then be critical of it. /vent
  21. And if Yost doesn't go with Hall in that situation you have all the Yost haters out there screaming for him to be fired because he let Branyan hit and not Hall. Straw-man -- here is the definition so you can learn how to avoid this sort of statement. Yost made the correct decision and going with Hall and not anyone else. I disagree. I certainly understand the reasoning behind Yost going with Hall -- and I do not think Yost was stupid for going to Hall. -- I am pretty convinced going to Branyan was the right move. Hall hits lefties better than Branyan and it was a good call by Yost to have Hall bat for him. I think Hall hits lefties better than Hall hits righties -- I am not sure at this point though Hall hits lefties better than Branyan. The reason behind this are the stats just look them up you will see Hall has better stats against lefties than Branyan does. Right. However, I am becoming convinced that Branyan is a better hitter than he was in 2005. I am not sure what sort of hitter Branyan is in 2008, but I am becoming convinced it is not the 2005-2007 hitter. My Vent -- I wish Yost would have rolled the dice with Branyan in this instance, especially given the game situation.
  22. Does "I'm not sure I can take anyone who defends the Tavarez in the 12th decision seriously" qualify? That's a not so thinly veiled attempt to call someone ridiculous, stupid, or idiotic. I would agree with you that this is not cool. But, I really think the "straw-man" comment was a bit over the top. And I think anyone who isn't acting as the semantics police would recognize the point that was being made. It was a straw man argument, plain and simple -- It's not semantics either. If I say something about Yost that you take issue with, I would enjoy to debate you about it -- however i am getting tired of the "you would have been mad if Yost did the other thing" -- I try to be very consistent with my arguments and observations about Yost.
  23. First, booing (unless directed at G.Sheffield) is dumb. Period. Agreed Second, it's easy to be pessimistic. I don't think people choose to be pessimistic or optimistic -- they just are.
  24. Well they'd lose their 2nd round. Right. My bad. I should have said "they won't lose their first".
