Yes the price was steep, but the goal (playoffs) is worth the risk. I still think Linebrink has very little to do with whether or not the Brewers make the playoffs.

My main concern is that he might be untradable when we need the salary relief for signing guys like Hardy and Fielder. THat's why backloading the contract seems like a mistake. To leapfrog off that, I really hope we're able to trade him after next season. I don't think we need nor want him after that, so he better have a great year.

Id assume that we get the team's 2/3 round pick if they sign multiple free agents if we have a better record than the other team? I believe it's based on the free agent, not the record of the team. So if Cordero is rated higher than the other free agents, we'll get the 1st rounder.

He had a bad couple first starts, reportedly battling with mono at the time. Since then he's been fine. Not amazing, but fine.

Greg keeps responding in fine fashion to the posts that irk me, so I won't bother. A couple of points however: 1. If you don't yet understand that telling people to "get over it" is not done here, you're not going to last long. 2. It's arguable that Linebrink will have little affect in whether the Brewers make the playoffs or not. 3. The pro-trade group can't seem to understand the problems that those less enthusiastic have. Namely: - It's not about giving up Inman or not, it's who we're getting back. If this trade is for a Gagne-level stud, I think no one cares. And maybe Linebrink will revert back and everyone will be happy. To quote SeriesFinale: "I'm not averse to them trading Inman for the right guy in the right situation. I just don't think that Linebrink is that guy." - This year is not an all or nothing proposition. It's really possible to want to win this year AND next year (and the year after?). The people complaining about not trading every prospect away to get people for this year would be the same ones complaining in 3 years when the cupboard is bare and we're back below .500 waiting for the next wave of kids to come along. Inman was more than likley 2 years away from the majors in the best case scenario. Inman is Gallardo one year removed. If he's not in the majors in 2 years, he either blew his arm out or couldn't hack it in AAA, and we win this trade. I can't believe everyone hates this deal. What has Innman, Thratcher proved in the majors? Absoutley nothing, Don't stop there! What had Gallardo or Braun proved in the majors last year? Absolutely nothing! That's a completely meaningless argument.

We just got one of the premier releivers on the market for some great young talent who weren't going to pitch in Milwaukee this year. Inman, Garrison, and Thatcher all project as probable major leaguers and San Diego might think they've won this trade in 2 or 3 years but we are about the present. Well, you can be about both winning now and winning later, it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

If they thought he was the same top relief pitcher he was in the past,why would they trade him? There's the rub. What playoff team goes out and trades a top bullpen arm for a bunch of minor leaguers?

If that's the case this becomes a huge "don't care" for me.

Overall the prevailing sense is that AA players are more important than doing what it atkes to stabilize the big club that has a realistic chance of making the playoffs. No, the sense is that we might have just traded next year's Gallardo for 25 innings of a 7th inning pitcher.

I doubt it could be anything like amphetamine. that would be a banned "stimulant", not "performance enhancer". I don't know whether that's true or not. I would venture that "performance enhancer" covers just about everything, including stimulants.

I Have been thinking when Benny is ready to Return and Yo pitching as good as he is. I would have to think that the weak Link to go into The Pen is Suppan. Yes i know we threw alot of Money at him but as of Now Cappy looks like he has regained his Form and Bush have been Very constant over his past 8 starts,and Claudio well the team just wins in his starts. The Bottom Line is that they are in a playoff race and have to put out the team best 5 starters. He has a limit, it will be adhered to, so you might as well decide when you want to use those innings. I choose Sept/Oct.

I think I'd rather have 2 divisions and 2 wild cards than 4 divisions. And I agree, one of the Florida teams needs to go.

It shows he is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. If there was a huge eye roll emoticon, I would use it here. That's a horrible "ends justifies the means" mentality.
