  1. LHP Andrew Oliver for Corey Hart I would do in a heartbeat. Really like that he is almost major league ready. I really love their top pitching prospect RHP Jacob Turner, but I'm sure it would take Prince for a package that included Turner. Maybe: RF Corey Hart RHP Dave Bush for LHP Andrew Oliver RHP Charles Furbush I hope you are reading this Mr. Melvin. Give Dave Dombrowski a jingle.
  2. Castro is a top 50 prospect. Edmonds could never net him. Don't even think we could get RHP Corey Luedke for Edmonds. Maybe a pitcher like RHP Wynn Pelzer could be had. I know John Sickels likes him a lot.
  3. Minor is impressing this year on the minors. I would pull the trigger on the trade for this young lefty in a heartbeat.
  4. That's nitpicking. McGehee filled in for Weeks last year and Salome was a catcher in high school and the minors. I even saw him catch in person at Nashville. Maybe we could include Parra to get the deal done.
  5. I think the Nationals could be a good trading partner. They could use a few good young players since they are in a position to make a run this year. Here is my trade proposal: Nationals get: 1B Prince Fielder, RF Corey Hart, 2B Casey McGehee, RHP Mark Rogers, C Angel Salome, and RHP Mike Jones. Brewers get: 1B Adam Dunn, RHP Stephen Strasburg, and LHP Josh Smoker. Now here me out: The Nats have a thing for Corey Hart, McGehee can replace their hole at 2B and Salome can replace Pudge who will likely retire. The Nats can than sign Fielder long term with the money they save by trading Dunn's contract. The Brewers can play Gamel at 3B to replace McGehee's productions, Dunn at 1B or OF to replace Fielder/Hart and we also get a quality young starter in Strasburg. Now you might wonder if Strasburg is even available since he was just drafted last year, but he is eligible to be traded now that it is over a year since last year's draft. Stasburg could immediately slot in as our #3 starter beyond Gallardo and Wolf. Strasburg would be a significant upgrade over our current #3 starter. Who is our #3 starter right now? Anyways, I got a chance to see Strasburg pitch and I think he could develop into a solid #2 starter, possibly even a #1. He kinda reminds me of a young Ben Sheets, actually. My only concern is that he doesn't seem to be able to throw more than 100 pitches when he starts, which is a drawback. We already have enough starters that can't get beyond the 6th inning. I would still do this trade however, because it makes sense for both teams. Thoughts? Edited for grammar.
  6. My final 2010 Mock Draft up to Brewers 1st round pick. 1. Washington Nationals: Bryce Harper, C, Southern Nevada 2. Pittsburgh Pirates: Manny Machado, SS/3B, Brito HS, Florida 3. Baltimore Orioles: Jameson Taillon: RHP, The Woodlands HS, Texas 4. Kansas City Royals: Yasmani Grandel, C, Miami 5. Cleveland Indians: Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Mississippi 6. Arizona Diamondbacks: Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast 7. New York Mets: Deck McGuire, RHP, Georgia Tech 8. Houston Astros: Michael Choice, OF, Texas-Arlington 9. San Diego Padres: Koibrin Vitek, 2B, Ball tate 10. Oakland Athletics: Zack Cox, 3B, Arkansas 11. Toronto Blue Jays: Christian Colon, SS, Cal State Fullerton 12. Cincinnati Reds: Nick Castellanos, 3B, Archbishop McCarthy HS, Florida 13. Chicago White Sox: Bryce Brentz, OF, Middle Tennessee State 14. Milwaukee Brewers: Stetson Allie, RHP St. Edward H.S. (Ohio) Other Possiblities: college Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citadel Alex Wimmers, RHP, Ohio State Matt Harvey, RHP, North Carolina Brett Eibner, RHP, Arkansas Sammy Solis, LHP, San Diego Anthony Ranaudo, RHP, LSU ? high school Karsten Whitson, RHP, Chipley HS, Florida A.J. Cole, RHP, Ovieda HS, Florida Dylan Covey, Maranatha H.S., California Josh Sale, OF, Bishop Blanchet HS, Washington I think the Brewers are gonna go with a pitcher but wouldn't mind seeing them pluck OF Josh Sale. The rumor was last year that the Brewers we set to pick OF Mike Trout out of H.S. but the Angels stole their pick. Would prefer the Crew go with either Whitson or Cole, or if they prefer the college route, take a chance on Anthony Ranaudo to be this year's Kyle Gibson. Another name to watch for rounds 3-5: Luke Jackson, RHP, Calvary Christian HS, Florida

  8. As the rest of the free agent market has shaken out, it is undeniably apparent that the Brewers most certainly did overpay for a pitcher of Randy Wolf's talent, both in dollars and in the number of years on the contract.
  9. Gamel is being overrated by Brewer fans, IMO. Gamel projects to be a .280-20-80 type MLB hitter without a defensive home. That caliber of player can be easily replaced on a yearly basis via free agency. If we can get a young starting pitcher with potential for him, we need to go for it. Seattle fans naturally overrate Brandon Morrow, just like Brewer fans do for Gamel, however if you'd read through non-Seattle/Milwaukee biased message boards regarding this rumor, you'll see that must people feel Seattle would want more than someone like Mat Gamel for Brandon Morrow. MLB Trade Rumors Link
  10. I would trade Mat Gamel for Brandon Morrow in a heartbeat. A young, cost controled starting pitcher is much more valuable than a young, cost controled average hitter without a defensive home. The Brewers could simply sign a free agent veteran hitter to man RF/3B for a reasonable price, whereas, a pitcher with an upside of a 2-3 starter would cost us Randy Wolf type money. Look at the Brewers minor league system. We have plenty of bats in the system that could replace a departed Gamel (Taylor Green, for example) We have zero major league ready pitchers in the minors to help for this year or next. Zero.
  11. Perspective Last year's one year deals. Brewers- Braden Looper- $5.5M Dodgers- Randy Wolf- $5M We are doing this ass-backwards!
  12. I agree that Randy Wolf is the better of the two, and if it's gonna be one of those two, I'm surely hoping for Wolf. With that said, I don't feel the Brewers ARE going to target a pitcher like Harden/Bedard with ace potential, in addition to a Wolf/Garland deal. Instead, I see us signing a setup guy and stick with Dave Bush and sign someone like Mulder. I just don't think those moves will make us a contender next year.
  13. Suppan age and career ERA when Milwaukee signed him- 32 and 4.57 Garland age and career ERA- 30 and 4.42 Wolf age and career ERA- 33 and 4.13 In spite of the money being less than offered to Suppan, I think the word "pedestrian" sums up what type of starting pitchers we are talking about here. "Innings Eaters" not pitchers with potential to be 1 or 2 starters.
  14. Link "Should the Brewers get surprised and get a "no" from Wolf, it's my understanding that their fall-back position is Jon Garland, who pitched last season for Arizona and the Dodgers. The 30-year-old right-hander was 11-13 with a 4.01 ERA for those clubs." Not a big fan of Melvin's "back-up" plan. I really think the Brewers should be targeting a pitcher with Ace potential- Harden, Bedard, or Sheets. Wolf or Garland remind me all to much of the Suppan signing.
  15. Here is the real answer: Because Gamel profiles as a below average hitting RF or 1B. He has the most value if he can stick at 3B, which I believe he can AND will. Ideally, I think the Brewers need to trade Gamel for a similar valued starting pitching prospect.
  16. If any Brewer fans thinks that we could land Cole Hamels for a package that doesn't include both Mat Gamel AND Brett Lawrie.... ....please tell me where you got whatever it is you are smoking?
  17. Your local Pick N' Save is running a sale this week on candy, 10 for $10. This includes Black Forest Gummy Bears AND Black Forest Gummy Worms. So for those of you that want to stock up for the winter, you can't pass up this deal. http://thegingerbreadninja.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/0004142074508_l4.jpg Also, they are running a sale on New Glarus Spotted Cow Beer, highly recommended by Scott Bartell. 18. I tried some of that mustard on a sausage at the state fair. It had a nice spicey hot kick. Made my nostril hairs burn! If you're a true brewer fan, you have to take advantage of this great deal!
  19. If Jeffress would have saved off the dope, maybe we could have landed Cliff with that comparable package. Question is: Would Brewers fans have been willing to give up that similar package?
  20. Comparable Brewers trade to get Cliff Lee: SP Manny Parra (Carlos Carrasco), SP Jeremy Jeffress (Jason Knapp), 3B Taylor Green (Jason Donald) and C Jonathon Lucroy (Lou Marson) I think the Phillies got an absolute steal in 1 1/2 years of a Cy Young Award winner for a bunch of maybes. It's likely not one player the Phillies gave up will ever be as good as Cliff Lee. Knapp is the key piece coming over to the Indians, as he has a pretty high ceiling as a starting pitcher.
  21. I actually think this would be a good deal for both teams if Clement could catch full time, which I think he can. I think getting Morrow would be the key to this deal for the Brewers. He has a much higher ceiling than Fredrickson. The Brewers system is loaded with offensive talent. It is very devoid of pitching talent at this time. This deal would allow us to keep cost-controled blue chippers Escobar, Gamel and Lawrie, while also netting us a stop gap starting pitcher that we're deperate for, a potential #1 starting pitching prospect, and a potential solid hitting catcher to backup then replace Kendall. Hardy is replaced by Escobar. Salome is replaced by Clement (I personally don't believe Salome can become an everyday MLB catcher) Taylor Green is a sold B-level 3B prospect, but if Gamel can't cut it at 3B, McGehee is an everyday option for a while. Fredrickson was a supplemental 1st round reach by the Brewers and has the massive control problems that usually kill pitching prospects. I actually think the the Mariners may reject this offer.
  22. More info on the great Tim Dillard: http://nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2985 Please note, that Tim's favorite food is gummy candy.
  23. Wow, the whole point of this thread was to get posters opinions on this issue. Going on stats/scouting reports on these three players, it is clear that all three have the ability to hit at the major league level but all have defensive question marks. With that said, I was actually just asking for other posters gut feelings on it. Personally, I don't see a difference between a gut feeling or a "sixth sense". Don't see why that poster was called out on it. It just shows that posters are natually biased toward current Brewers prospects over non-brewers or former brewers prospects. I personally believe that Mat Gamel is overvalued on these forums. As a brewer fan, I hope I'm wrong. I was just curious to see what other posters felt on the comparsions. And for the record, my opinion is correct.
  24. I don't see how this will help the Brewers. Jesus is overrated.
  25. Here is a discussion between two great men: Tim Dillard and Scott Bartell
