  1. Braun is going to have to hit pretty darn good this year to make up for that defense...
  2. Prince Fielder is going to the Hall of Fame. EDIT: How the heck does Estrada only get a single off that?
  3. Not that I'm saying either should, or should not, be moved right now, but I'm just saying that moving them based on DP threat is rather ridiculous. What's "rather ridiculous" is using Braun's first 53 career major league PA to come up with an expected DP rate. Meanwhile, it wouldn't surprise me if Estrada has the highest dp in the league since at least 2006.
  4. Estrada has had one year in his career with an OPS over .800. He's about the worst #5 hitter you could imagine. A walking double play.
  5. I can't believe the wheel bearings didn't fail. I'm pretty sure it wasn't designed for 50 MPH!
  6. Holy crap, another lineup thread! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. An engineer in a union? As for feeling bad, don't. Your company will always do what's in their best interest and you should do the same.
  8. Someone get good at this and then tell me how. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Flash Element TD EDIT: I think this guy likes the game: LINK
  9. Three crappy right handed pitchers vs. Cappy, Sheets and Bush. At least the pitching match ups looks good.
  10. Glad to see the Marquez love... While I think 100 Years of Solitude is his greatest literary accomplishment, my favorite book ever is Love in the Time of Cholera... And I was a bit let down by it, at least with the ending. In contrast, I've never had the emotional reaction to a book as I did with the ending of 100 Years of Solitude. Of course, had I read "Love" first, I probably would love them both. "100" spoiled me, though.
  11. Sheets is way more valuable than any reliever and they aren't going to sign both (they probably won't sigh either).
  12. This guy can barely play 1B. He is natural DH. Is there video of him playing 1B out there somewhere?
  13. Estrada has a .283 OBP and a .716 OPS. The idea that the Brewers have no better options is crazy. Hall has had some substantial and recent success and at least has an OBP north of .310. Sold.
  14. One Hundred Years of Solitude By Gabriel García Márquez Just a masterpiece, IMO. The story is about as epic as you can imagine (covers many generations of the same family). Márquez's use of magical realism made me feel like I was reading a believable fairytale. For a guy like me, who's generally grounded in cold, hard facts, it was a very liberating feeling to be sucked into a world that could break the rules of science whenever to, yet do it in a way that had me questioning nothing. He created his own world. It's kind of what Lost wishes to be.
  15. Wouldn't it be logical that your BA would be consistent with or without runners on base? The reality is that it's not that simple, but I would guess that's his logic. The reality is that it's pretty darn close, on average. Look it up yourself. The world at our fingertips!
  16. Without looking at stats, I'll go out on a limb and say this has been a running theme since 2004 (if not earlier) for the Brewers. It's OK to look this stuff up once in awhile. The Brewers had a lower BA w/RISP in 04' and 05' but had a higher BA w/RISP in 06'. Right now, they have an overall BA of .260 and a BA w/RISP of .245. They "should" have about 7 more hits w/RISP over the 58 games they've played. That's not insignificant but we are talking about 1 extra hit about every 8 games. How many more wins would the Brewer have, had if they had gotten those 7 extra hits? It could have been 7 or it could have been 0, depending on when they had happened. A realistic number is maybe around 2 extra wins (maybe 20 runs). Considering the Brewers have barely outscored their opponents so far, yet find themselves 6 games over, it's kinda hard to play the underperforming card, though.
  17. There's a point where it will just stop counting your yards. Long ago, I could get to it with Barry or Thurman Thomas, something like 5,164 yards or something random like that. 2^12 = 4,096?
  18. If Yo comes up and is placed in the bullpen, Wise could be used as the primary "LOOGY" and could then stay in the game to finish the inning if needed. He's done better than Shouse against lefties the last few years. I'd still keep Shouse around, however.
  19. I'm going to guess that you didn't put a whole lot of research into the above before deciding to share it with the rest of us. It sounds better suited for the vent thread.
  20. I ran into this when I sold a home after only about 12 months. Because I was moving for a new job I didn't have to pay capital gains. I think that's what was going on at least http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Balfour, Thatcher, Sarfate, I'm all for throwing everyone against the proverbial bullpen wall and see what sticks. Relievers don't get enough innings to just throw in there and figure out who's best as they play. If you bring a guy up and give him 9 innings of total work to prove himself you don't give him enough time to prove anything. As end said, Balfour has actually had some limited success at the major league level, so he's probably one of the more safe bets.
  22. I wouldn't worry about the splits at all. They are interesting to look at but it's way too small a sample to predict anything.
  23. Don't worry. If the Brewers win 7 of their next 8, people will be coming out of the woodwork, saying how they never stopped believing and that this team just "knows how to win".
  24. The sad thing is, living in Green Bay means I have to leave at around 9 PM on weekday games. With Vargas pitching that might get me to the 4th http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  25. It's funny that everyone thinks Bush was left in too long, yet his replacements let all his runners score and then some.
