  1. With all the doom and gloom around here, I'd like to point out that the Brewers STILL have a 6 game lead and STILL have scored more runs than they've given up this year. Predicting that the Brewers will be below .500 in no time has little factual basis and is simply rooted in the typical fatalist attitude most Brewer fans seem afflicted with. A couple years ago, Brewerfan.net everyone got all excited when the Brewers were "only" 4.5 games back and in 3rd place in the NL Central in July. I was called all kinds of horrible names for pointing out how little of a chance the Brewers had. Now it seems I'm being accused of having Brewer goggles on for pointing out that the Brewers still have almost a 2 in 3 chance of making the playoffs this year and actually have some talent to back it up. Let's just watch the season unfold and see what happens?
  2. Uncle Walt is awesome. Really, the ticket should be more than $288.
  3. She's a constant reminder of how bad it could really be right now.
  4. I don't see that much difference from last year's team to this year's team. It's probably going to be at least a 10 win difference so that sounds like a big difference to me.
  5. Sure if there is no track record with Bush. Bush has a track record of coming apart quickly. Ned has had him for how many seasons? From 04' - 06' Bush has given up a .695 OPS against during innings 4-6 and a .550 OPS against from innings 7 - 9. His track record is that he actually gets stronger as he goes on. Now, the 7th inning has been disastrous for Bush this year but we can either believe that those 17 AB are a fluke and the previous 3 years are representative of his true abilities or we can believe that Yost should know that Bush will always fail late in the games. Baseball fans just love to remember back 4 weeks and pretend that whatever happened during that period is obviously going to keep happening. That's not how baseball works.
  6. Yeah, but Shouse is no LOOGY. Check his splits and get back to me.
  7. That's because someone predicts something horrible to happen on EVERY friggin' play. Than they can say, "See I told you!!!!" when they are right. It's a joke and it's making this whole message board very unenjoyable at times.
  8. I agree he doesn't suck but he is a limited pitcher.. he is never going to be an all-star.. Of course not.
  9. This was a great situation where I'd love to see Yost have his best reliever pitcher. Small lead and in a major jam. Some day.
  10. And now everyone can say Bush sucks again before HE gave up 4 earned runs.
  11. Dave Bush has never been a 6 inning pitcher and was dominating. Really, to just pull your starter after any little trouble is how you play video games.
  12. The amount of runners we leave on base each game is staggering. It's really not that bad overall. Everyone just forgets the games where they score more runners than expected.
  13. Yost had to have figured how asinine his idea to put Estrada in the 5 hole was by now. Put a guy who never walks and has no speed in a position to put a lot of balls into play with runners on. Brilliant!
  14. On a side note, I have a really bad feeling about tonight. Maybe it was just something you ate.
  15. I'd hate to think of how our "speed and defense" guy would be regarded if he didn't also have the highest OBP of any hitter on the team. The reason some don't want Gwyn starting has been explained to death here over the last few months. I won't get into it here but the hints are "sample size" and "previous success". It's kind of like people suggesting Sheets was the third best pitcher on the team after a month of the season because he had the third best ERA among starters.
  16. I'd take 3 runs in 6 or 7 IP every outing from Bush. That's great coming from your #4 pitcher.
  17. Maybe once or twice, Counsell may start at third and Graffy at 2nd, and Braun is the DH. Actually, that might be a better option against lefties. Counsell plays SS level defense at 3B. Regardless, the offense can't really be improved with a DH, when a lefty is pitching. Get on that, Melvin!
  18. I personally hope Ned doesn't use the DH as a chance to get Graffanino and Counsell more AB's. I won't like it but it at all but it wouldn't surprise me to see Gwynn start in CF and Hall DHing when the Brewers are up against a righty. Hope I'm wrong. What I'd like to see against a righty: Hart RF Gross DH Hardy SS Fielder 1B Braun 3B Jenkins LF Hall CF Estrada C Counsell 2B The irony is that I probably wouldn't mind Gwynn in the lineup against a lefty when a DH is needed. There's simply no extra RH bats available, so I'd at least take the defensive upgrade in CF. Maybe something like this: Hart RF Hardy SS Braun 3B Fielder 1B Hall DH Mench LF Gwynn CF Estrada C Graffy 2B I care more about the actual personnel than the exact order, really.
  19. I'm not fooled by Marquis and his ERA either. On the other hand, I'm not fooled by Bush's last start. The glaring difference is that Bush's current ERA is well above his career ERA, while the opposite is true of Marquis. I don't expect Bush to give up 1 run in 7 IP every time, but I don't expect his ERA to be above 5.0 by the end of the year either. He has a career 4.46 ERA, with almost half his IPs coming in the very difficult AL East. I hope they play angry and are over aggressive at the plate and make, silly, aggressive base running errors. Sounds good to me.
  20. I am more concerned with Sheets displaying the tools that have helped him become one of the better pitchers in the league than the result of any one regular season game. Over the last few years, Sheets has averaged about a K an inning and it's a big part of his success. The significance of his great performance today goes beyond the win he racked up. His command seemed spot on today, with 69 of his 99 pitches going for strikes. The curve looked great. Hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the year.
  21. Sheets looked great today. Looked like the could throw his curve for a strike at will. He now has the lowest ERA among the Brewers rotation and that should surprise no one.
  22. Sheets had another very nice game. His curve looked great. He now has the lowest ERA among Brewer starters. Go figure.
  23. Turnbow is fine. He's not some elite pitcher that will carry a sub 3.0 ERA but how many of those kind of relievers does a team typically have?
  24. Opposite field HR by Hardy on an outside pitch is great to see. Teams have really been pounding Hardy there lately.
  25. 99 pitches for Sheets through 6 and he's scheduled to bat third next inning. Going to need the bullpen to cover 3 innings today?
