  1. I would love to see YuniB become a positive to this team. It's going to take more than a couple of good weeks, though. It'll take a longer stretch of offensive contribution to make up for his atrocious defense. I will say, though, that YuniB being half of a replacement-caliber player is better than none. Keep hitting the first pitch you see, Yuni.
  2. The nice thing about playing the Giants is that if you can score three runs, you will almost certainly win, provided your pitching doesn't (befoul) the bed.
  3. He's also attempting steals a whole lot less. You never see him showing off his speed, so it's easy to think he's slowed down. Whether he has or not, I have no idea.
  4. I wouldn't be too worried about burning an option for Green. That's the worst-case scenario: burn an option on Green, he sucks in Milwaukee, send him down, go back to McGehee, who continues to suck. Then three or four seasons down the road you have to worry about losing Green if he's still bouncing back and forth from Milwaukee to Nashville.
  5. I expect we'll get a Josh Wilson-esque pickup - somebody like Carroll who has some OK numbers, but isn't really a significant upgrade offensively or defensively over Wilson, who himself isn't a significant upgrade offensively or defensively over YuniB.
  6. Covers a lot of ground, cannon arm, below average to maaaybe average at the dish - I'll take it. This team needs a lot of defensive help. Besides, as the RHB part of the platoon, he won't be in play much, but hopefully he'll be more likely to spell Hart and Braun than Kotsay.
  7. I'm glad we didn't get him. I think he's junk.
  8. There is a long list of rookies who played during pennant races and helped put their team over the top. Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols come to mind.
  9. How many Brewers have multi-homer games this year? YuniB and ... Braun?
  10. Corey Hart gets an RBI the easy way, then Nyjer Morgan gets one the hard way. Ouch!
  11. After a 7-pitch inning, is anybody else expecting Enright's 44 pitches through two innings to be fewer than what Gallardo ends up with?
  12. If the Brewers don't win the Central, I want it to be the Pirates.
  13. Corey Hart - as a tall, long-armed, gangly, goofy-looking dude, it's nice to see somebody else that looks like me, but can play. I love the half-casual swing that seems like he just sort of throws the bat into the strike zone, yet the ball jumps off the bat. Prince Fielder - I like the incredible violent compactness of his swing. Nothing nothing nothing nothing POW!
  14. Is that OBP/SLG? If it is, he might, and I mean, MIGHT, have a chance of reaching that goal. I mean, it's not beyond the realm of possibility. Anyway, the Brewers, as the smallest market team in the Major Leagues, have a cycle of competitiveness that they (and we as fans) can realistically expect: 3-6 years of rebuilding/stocking the farm system, then with good moves, players panning out (Dave Krynzel, anyone?), and some luck, can contend for 2-4 years. That's if things pan out, and you don't have a stretch like1994-2005 (or 2006-2011) when you only produce one viable starting pitcher out of your farm system (2006-2011 made up for by the amazing wealth of big bats in position players). Is it possible to contend more frequently, but you have to have extreme good luck and extreme savvy/ruthlessness in making moves and maximizing payroll.
  15. Greinke's typical line is around 6 IP, 4 hits, 0 BB, 7 K, 3 ER. That's a little different than 7 hits and a walk in six innings leading to 2 ER.
  16. Here's what happens next: broken elbow, torn ligament, Pujols magically comes back four days later and hits three home runs in five games, taking the time to blog about each one while walking to first base, then criticizes an opposing hitter for pointing at the fans after a walkoff home run.
  17. Betemit is just another heap of junk with a different brand. If you're going to get somebody who's an average-to-below-average hitter, get a great defender. Jack Wilson (OK, well-below-average hitter) at short can't cost that much.
  18. That's the reason I'm always frustrated with Gallardo, too. Ace-quality stuff, but he can't put it all together. I think we're getting what we paid for in Marcum (who's been quite good overall), Wolf is above expectations, Narveson is about what you'd expect, and Gallardo is a disappointment. Greinke, well, Greinke's a mystery. Stat-wise, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball. That ERA's something else, though. I'm trying to trust in fangraphs, which keeps saying that he's likely to go on one of those crazy dominant stretches at some point.
  19. Just like that, the Brewers are in sole possession of first place. Strap yourselves in - it's going to be a wild summer.
  20. Then Tulowitzki promptly grounds out. Nicely done. It was a little shaky, but I'll take a W in Coors Field any way I can.
  21. Rickie Weeks! Get up, get up, get out of heeeeere...... (pause, pause) GONE!
  22. Betancourt! Betancourt did something! Betancourt did something good!
  23. Three things: 1. Suck it, Cordero. 2. Suck. It. 3. I <3 Craig Counsell, even with his 0-28 streak. Craig Counsell + bases loaded = walk-off win. Seriously, every time.
  24. Dontrelle Willis has been junk for years. It would be really nice for the Brewers to give Randy Wolf some Zack Greinke-level run support. I want to crush the Reds to hold onto a share of first place going into the break.
  25. Was anybody surprised by that Bruce home run? Anybody at all?
