  1. It would be sad, but fitting, if we lost 1-0 on an unearned run. Poor fielding, poor hitting, strong starting pitching.

  3. I'm trying to stay positive, but our approaches at the plate at so bad it's making it difficult.

  5. Nice. Hey, it's game day, take no prisoners...get that Braun from her!

  7. I'm killing time until the first pitch by playing Batman Lego with my five-year old. After two hours of watching her trying to master the controls without my help, the Brewers game will seem like heaven. I'd rather see Counsell at bat, nobody on base, down by one run, two out, bottom of the ninth than watch any more of a Lego Batman do nothing but turn in circles.

  9. I'm putting my 2008 pessimism aside and am just going to try and enjoy the game (and #163 if it comes to that) for what it is: a shot at the playoffs. I'm not nervous or overly excited...in fact, I feel oddly detached, but in a good way. Tomorrow is going to be fun. I'll worry about the playoffs or 2009 on Monday.
  10. That was an early July thread called "My Brewer Confession" or something like that. I expressed my doubts that the Brewers would actually make the playoffs. I felt that way all through July and through August. Then, on the night of August 31st, after sweeping the Pirates, I allowed myself an unfortunate moment of optimism and thought for the first time this season that perhaps the Brewers were indeed going to make the playoffs and I better enjoy the ride more. Well, needless to say, that was short-lived optimism. As for renewing my tickets, no I don't think I will if they don't make the playoffs. There could be a caveat to that decision, however. I will address that after the season is over, in a separate thread.
  11. I'm breaking off this relationship. Perhaps we can still be friends in the future.
  12. Two frogs fell into a bowl of cream. One didn't panic, he relaxed and drowned. The other kicked and struggled so much that the cream turned to butter and he walked out. Sometimes, it's right to panic. I agree it's a move of desperation...but so what? Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm more upset that they didn't make this move at the end of last season. From all I've heard, Yost was not well-liked by many of the players, created a tense clubhouse, and had troublesome relationships with his coaches. Does this make the players perform poorly as the season wears on? I don't know. I'm guessing it doesn't help.
  13. I am so glad I am out of town and won't be able to succumb to temptation and watch this game. I will, however, succumb to other temptations and visit Bourbon Street tonight.
  14. I am almost to the point where I just want them to lose and get it over with because it seems inevitable at this point. I'm the same way. I just want the season to end so I can get on with my life, baseball- and Brewers-free.
  15. Now, wait a minute. I take offense at being called a bandwagon fan if I don't renew. I've had season tickets since 1994. I've supported this franchise through some of their worst years ever. I've thrown away thousands of dollars worth of tickets in Aprils and Augusts and Septembers when I could not even give my tickets away (this was before bf.net, of course). I have much more going on in my life now than I did 15 years ago and different priorities in what I expect from my season tickets -- I used to be just happy to have season tickets and go to as many games as possible, regardless of how bad the Brewers were. Now, while I still love baseball for the game it is, I want more than that -- I want playoff baseball. I don't get to as many games as I did before I had kids and a business to run. I've kept my tickets over the last 4-5 years with the hope that the new ownership, the young crop of players, and the baseball management would get us to the playoffs. However, if they collapse again this year, I will have serious doubts about that happening in the next couple years, and I am not interested in investing tens of thousands of more dollars to find out if I'm right or wrong. At that point, I will want actual results before I again become a season ticket holder. All that being said, here's hoping they stop this current slide, maintain the wild card lead and this entire discussion becomes moot.
  16. I will always be a Brewers fan; I don't think I could change that part of me, even if I wanted. However, as I've mentioned previously, if the team fails to make the playoffs this season, I will not be renewing my season tickets for next year. I've had season tickets since 1994, so it's not like I haven't given the franchise a fair shake or I am a bandwagon fan. But, they haven't been good stewards of the dollars and time I've invested in them. I do believe under Attanasio, they are committed to reaching the playoffs, but if it doesn't happen this season, management is going to have to prove to me they have the skill and knowledge necessary by actually making the post-season before I commit to season tickets again. All that being said, I do wonder -- assuming the 2008 collapse manifests itself completely -- what moves the Brewers could make in the offseason to really get me fired up about 2009 and change my mind. I can't think of anything realistically right now that would have that impact. I am curious to see what kind of impact this will have on the fan base as a whole. I still find it incredible that the Brewers will draw three million this year based on nothing more than an 83-win previous season and a tenuous hold on a wild card spot. I would imagine a very substantial decline next year.
  17. Pedro might be up to hosting a game in the Milwaukee area; I've got the table, the chips, and a fully stocked bar. I normally host a monthly STT during the winter months. If we got 9-10 people, I might be able to talk my wife into hosting another occassionally. I'm pretty much a no-limit STT player, so I'd like to go that route, but I'm flexible.
  18. Done. If we need more $$, I'd be happy to do a little fund-raising auction with some memorabilia items from my collection.
  19. I'm happy. But I'm still incredibly pissed. Only the Brewers can do this to me.
  20. We are in a battle of ineptitude with the Padres. This is just sad.
  21. This was a short list. Since two of the three respondents only needed two, I decided to give two sets of two away...the winners are patrickgpe and yoshii8. Sorry JJ Hardy Har Har...wish I had two more to cover everyone. Please PM with your addresses and I'll mail the tickets out today.
  22. Classic Pedro there. I always love it when you chime in somewhere.Forgive my petulance. But my feelings are honest. This will be it for Pedro.
  23. I will only add that if this teams blows a playoff spot this year, I will not be renewing my season tickets for next year. 15 years of season tickets w/o the playoffs is my limit. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me 15 times...well, I don't even know how to respond to that one.
  24. Cripes, I can't believe this organization suckered me into sending them thousands of dollars for playoff tickets again. Yes, I'm cynical. Yes, I'm old and cranky. Yes, I realize it's only the 5th innings and we're still leading the WC. But, it's been really frustrating watching the last few games.
  25. A quick tip-o-the-hat to our own Jason Christopherson (jschris) who's article "Burleigh Grimes and the 1912 Eau Claire Commissioners" was featured in the 2008 edition of The National Pastime, SABR's review of baseball history. My issue just showed up today and I noticed Jason's article while flipping through it. I think this is one more example that highlights the caliber of contributors here at Brewerfan.net. Jason also published a book, Baseball in Eau Claire, in 2003. Congrats, Jason!
