  1. The Bucks are 5 games away from the 3rd worst record and 8 from the worst. I agree it may not happen, but I think this team is pending on imploding. If Jennings were to get hurt, I think it's possible. The Nets are getting back Lopez as well. I wonder if the NBA would 'give' the Bucks the #1 pick? They need some luck!
  2. I looked this up last night, and Sessions had a stretch where he scored roughly 22 points a game (with a 40+ point game) with a tad more than 8 assists (including the record assist game), so he was slightly worse than Lin. Sessions really wasn't close to Lin's production. I believe the main line thrown as there in historical context is most points in first 5 career starts. I think Lin as the most since 1978 or something like that. Lin has 137 points in his first five starts. Sessions had 47. Like I said, not real close. Sessions is a solid player though. We still don't know what Lin will turn into, but you can't argue against his production. His turnovers are concerning, but we'll see as well what happens as time goes on. As for the Bucks, it looks like things are starting to fall apart. I have a feeling they're going to end up with one of the worst records in the league. Would this mean GM and coaching changes? How much rope do they have?
  3. Sessions didn't. Lin has done things that have historically not been done before or it's been decades since it has been done. ESPN nor did any other thing 'create' what he's done. Will he last? Can he sustain? We'll find out, but personally I find that much more interesting than anything else that has happened in the NBA in awhile. The only disappointing thing is that he's on the Knicks. I hate the Knicks.
  4. can't make a 3 to save his life He actually did the other night. I like the Lin story. Is it getting too much play? Sure. It's just a boring time in sports IMO so it's either this story or Peyton Manning's future. I'll take Lin for now. When is the last time a player like this came out of nowhere? I'm not saying it'll last forever, but this isn't something that usually happens in the NBA. Undrafted, cut twice, etc. I also think the NBA NEEDS a start that the general public likes. They may not like him after all the press, but I'm sure the NBA is beyond thrilled right now. We'll see if it lasts.
  5. That's what I'm saying. Both comments are virtually the same, the only difference is that when DP said it, he was quoting "a source close to the situation" or something to that effect. ESPN on the other hand is just making statements without saying they have a source or any knowledge of it, just making blanket statements. There is a difference there IMO. My point is we don't know if ESPN has a source or doesn't. If they do, is it a reliable source? We don't know. To just assume it's garbage isn't right IMO. If he doesn't get suspended, then ESPN and any other reporter was wrong. We don't know a lot...I don't think it's fair to think everything we hear is garbage until there is a verdict and Braun speaks. I know ESPN is the most hated thing on the board, but that doesn't mean they or any other reporter is making things up. Like I said, I would find it really, really hard to believe one person in the universe knows which way this is leaning. Braun himself probably has a feeling of which way it'll go...he probably talks to people...they probably talk to people, etc.
  6. So, yeah, the Bucks missed on Yi and Alexander - but they weren't drafting Noah in 2007, or Brook Lopez in 2008, so there wasn't much there to be had and they went with "biggest upside", turned out, neither of them panned out. I think part of the problem is that they weren't going to draft Noah or Lopez in 2008. This team hasn't been deep enough in years to say they don't need a certain position, but they feel otherwise. The Bucks are the anti-Ted Thompson and continue to draft need over talent and painfully botching it at times.
  7. I dont think I follow your thought process. There is no way ESPN knows for sure Braun is guilty unless they know what the independent arbitrator is thinking. He is the one who is essentially determining this whole thing and I doubt their source from the start is connect to him. ESPN could end up being right but for some of these guys to act like they KNOW what is going to happen is wrong unless they have talked to the independent arbitrator. Well if there is no way then I guess there is nothing else to discuss, right? So we have that solved. Just like anything else people talk. ESPN probably should've never received the original story anyways...but somehow that leaked. I really don't think there is only one person in the universe that knows which way this story is leaning. If that is true, that'd be a first for a lot of things. I'm just believe it's possible there is a source. Also, I heard DP backed off his statement. A friend told me something of that nature happened on the show a few days later. Good thing he said he heard from someone close...he should be thrown under the bus more than ESPN for that one.
  8. How the heck does ESPN let him get away with that? What if ESPN is right and has had a source the whole time? I understand everyone hates ESPN, but it's a stretch to say anything one way or another until this is resolved. There could be the simple reason that they agreed not to name the source like is the case a lot of times. I get the feeling (just my feeling...no sources ) that Braun will be suspended. I will be very happy to find out differently. I just hope it is resolved one way or another soon.
  9. Probably not the place to discuss this in depth, but I expect the bullpen to be worse than last year. I think they'll really miss Saito, and to a lesser extent, Hawkins. I think they may miss the combination of them as 'one player' since they both missed time, etc, but hopefully we can find someone he can produce and be healthy all year. I worry about the bullpen's health since I don't think we have a lot of depth in regard to guys who have done it before. Wouldn't surprise me to see us trade for someone as the season progresses.
  10. Deep down, I think Gamel will have a good year. I've been a fan for awhile. I think his biggest issue is replacing Fielder. He could be an average 1B this year and that won't be enough for most people. I just hope he gets the playing time. It's time to see what we can do and stop having sample size debates or comments about how he can or can't hit MLB pitching. Time to see if he can over an extended period of time! I think if Mat clicks...this team will have a legit chance to get in the playoffs. Also, I really hope he doesn't become the YB.
  11. Sam Cassell - traded former 11th overall pick Terrell Brandon for him. Didn't we trade Vin Baker for Brandon? Baker was a high pick as well, but in addition to drafting well the Bucks were able to make some good trades as well. What was the last good trade the Bucks made?
  12. Any word on how long Bogut is out? The only problem with trading bogut is that I don't think anyone wants to see Gooden as the starting C. They don't have a whole lot of options there; Sanders is too small too hold up consistently. I'm not saying he's great, but Gooden has a fair share of haters. I'd guess these haters and those that want to tank would LOVE to seey Gooden play at center all year. I'm not against blowing things up, but I think we may have a few young pieces in place. IMO, it really depends on BJ. He's still very young. If he wants too much money or isn't going to continue to develop, I think we blow it up. I'm not against trying to get a high lottery pick, but my idea of blowing it up would be to stop getting guys like Gooden, Dunleavy, Jackson, etc. Let the young guys play. If we win, we win. If not, we'll only get better. I'm sick of bringing in veterans who can somewhat play, but are preventing our young guys from playing. I'd rather have the young guys with potential play and land in the lottery than continuing to bring in different veterans every year. I think you need to bring in the veterans after you've established something and can give them a specific role that they will succeed in.
  13. Under the new CBA are there still Type B players? Sorry if that is an obvious question, but I thought that is one thing they got rid of?
  14. I hate to burst your bubble but they're 4-6 playing one of the easiest schedules in the NBA. They've beaten 1-9 Washington, 3-7 Minnesota, 7-4 San Antonio and 2-9 Detroit. They've lost to 2-9 Charlotte, 7-4 Denver, 6-4 Utah, 4-6 Phoenix, 4-7 Sacramento and 5-3 Los Angeles. I hate to burst your bubble...but I'm not sure you are a Bucks fan. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'll take any win this team can get early on. I think it is a bit early IMO to know what this team can do, but hopefully the young guys get playing time win or lose. This was the first game I've watched a decent part of...did Jackson look better last night than he has this year? I've heard he's looked pretty bad.
  15. Yeah, Sanders is terrible, just like Gooden. Not saying that Sanders will ever be anything special...I'd just like to give a guy that may not be developed more PT. In regard to his defense, to me that is something related to instincts. He hasn't played basketball all that long...maybe that gets better? I'm not expecting much on offense, but it'd be nice if he could contribute. I'm not a huge fan of drafting 'projects' this year and last...but at some point and time these guys need to get on the floor and either prove they are NBA caliber or not. What was the timetable for Sanders when we drafted him? I find it odd that we did this back to back. Even if Sanders pans out...it'll likely be for a different regime.
  16. Haven't had a chance to watch the team this year...but is Larry Sanders going to get some more playing time this year compared to last? He was an athletic guy when we took him (i.e. a project)...but I'd really like to see him get some minutes and see what we have. From the box scores, doesn't seem likes he's played much this year.
  17. If Aoki plays well in the first 50 games and whoever is at 1B struggles, any worry moving Braun to 1B? Hart to 1B and Braun to RF? If the reports are true and his arm limits him to LF, not sure we want to remove plus defenders (Gomez and Morgan) for a guy with a below average arm. Maybe the plan is to move Braun to 1B right now?
  18. I really hope Braun is telling the truth...the on the field frustrating part though is that it could last until January. We all know we have holes to fill and not knowing if we have Braun for the first 50 games or not doesn't help that. I wish this could be resolved sooner so that if he is cleared it still doesn't ruin our off-season.
  19. Would we be saying the same things here if say...Votto, Bruce, Holliday, etc was the person involved and not Braun?
  20. I am just hopeful that the truth, one way or another, comes out very soon. If this gets dragged out for several days or weeks, it's going to do irreparable harm to the Brewers as an organization. I agree with this. The Brewers will need to prepare either with or without Braun for the first 50 games...and will have to make plans without him pretty quick if that is the case. This is the flaw with modern journalism. Some journalists today are obsessed with getting the most scandalous reports of people, whether an official verdict has been reached or not. They're constantly bloodthirsty and do not care much about ethics. All they care about is money and fame. I don't get this. I've mentioned I'm not a huge fan of the timing ESPN used, but if ESPN is going to through a guy like Ryan Braun through the mud don't you think they'll lose all respect of elite MLB players (even other sports)? It would not be a smart thing to do given Braun's popularity with a guy like say Aaron Rodgers. My guess is they felt they had enough to go on and with Braun's camp admitting it I'd say they were right. ESPN doesn't have anything against Milwaukee. Milwaukee was the meading darling for a good portion of this past summer. The stopped being that when they lost in the playoffs. Funny how that works.
  21. The more the night goes on and the more info that comes out, the more I think Braun is innocent and will be found innocent. I sure hope so. I don't know if he'll ever be 'innocent' in regards to HOF votes though depending on what the story is. Unless he's been doing this his whole career (which I think is doubtful), his numbers didn't take a huge spike this year. ESPN tried to portray that, but that isn't true. How often were players tested under old CBA?
  22. In regards to the NEVER ever post I made...that is what has been reported. My guess is it is on the 50 game suspension...could it be positive test? Not sure, but it's clear if he goes down the suspension path it most likely won't be changed. In the PR world, I think it was perfect timing. This thread has changed into somebody at ESPN found something and leaked it...if that is true...it's all PR IMO. Perfect timing either way IMO. NFL is much bigger than MLB IMO, but on a day w/o college football at all this story randomly leaks minutes before the Hesiman...hmmmm....hmmmmm. I think that maybe points to ESPN leaking something they shouldn't, but who knows. I really, really like Braun. I hope some how...some way...this isn't true. I can only imagine the Cubs, Cards, and Reds boards right now. Like I've said before, I'll somehow wait for Braun's story. If I'm not a Brewers fan though, I don't know how many times stories like this were 'leaked' and at the end of the day the accused was innocent. I hate to say that, but let's be honest. If this was any other player in our division, we'd be celebrating. As long suffering Brewers fans, we're trying to justify this. I hope we get that fluke reason why this happened...please.
  23. If you want examples of guys that have tested "positive" and had their results overturned, a number of players from the Mexican national team tested postive for the steroid clenbutrol this past summer at the Gold Cup. Their suspensions were throw out when they won their argument that they had eaten tainted beef. (Mexican beef operations are notorious for jucing their stock). I urge those of you who want to really look at this thing with an unbiased eye to learn more about the testing system. I think you may find it eye-opening in terms of the "legal" standards involved. I hope so in regard to most of your post...but in MLB no case has EVER been overturned. I still hold out hope, but it isn't looking good.
  24. The did 2.6 and 3.4 the last two years. That's pretty great for a Saturday night. Second, read the sorry. The reporter acknowledged they had to sources (the standard minimum if you're going to run an anonymous story) and Braun's camp released a statement on Saturday acknowledging the test. That made the story publishable. If anything Braun's camp released the statement tonight to bury the story (because it's the weekend and the Heisman is a big story that ESPN won't preempt. They knew it was coming out and wanted it to break at the most advantageous time for Braun, which this is. I'm trying to read your post assuming some words...but either way...I think it was a nice time for ESPN to post the story. I think the above information is a bit weak since it is Outside the Lines with the news...same group that has been ripped for Syracuse coverage. Again, if your ratings are a big deal to you (and again, first Saturday without college football in a long time) ESPN can scroll Breaking News on this the whole show. This was the perfect time to release the story. No doubt about it IMO.
