  1. I agree with Steveo. His innings might be down, but that doesn't really matter since he's throwing quite a few pitches and only lasting 5 innings or so. I think he's more on a pitch count limitation than an innings limitation. My guess is that he gets sent down before the end of May and Weaver gets called up. I'm not saying I want Weaver in Milwaukee, but I think that's the direction the Brewers are headed.
  2. It is essentially this story: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-spmnotes065675392may06,0,4954419.story The Mets have talked internally about getting Turnbow, but they would only offer a minor league deal.

  4. Completely false? The team is 10-20, that's terrible. That is the point of truth. What was nonsensical was the notion it was part of some clever plan. They are 5.5 games out of first and have won 5 of their last 7. They had their lead off hitter in Milwaukee and recently got back their best pitcher...those are the real facts. Throwing out the thought you did because they're in last place makes next to zero sense. They didn't get off to a great start, but they were missing some key pieces to their team. Did you follow the Sounds at all last year? Take a look at a box score from their playoffs. They had to sign several free agents to replace the players they called up to Milwaukee. I have a feeling the Sounds will end up playing some decent ball this year and I think it's a little foolish to jump ship on the team after 30 games.
  5. Maybe he shouldn't have started the thread, I don't know. I guess I don't see the point of jumping all over him. I don't consider it "jumping all over him" when a statement is made that is completely false and was made with little or zero support. The sky is falling in Nashville apparently...
  6. There were also some people who thought CV wasn't as good as his ERA suggested. Also a lot of peole who thought we should keep Parra in AAA for at least half the year to keep his innings down and retain Vargas. Oh I agree. It wasn't 100% one way or another, but there were comments IIRC that the Brewers don't want to win if CV or Parra were in AAA and pretty much the Brewers wouldn't be fielding the best team, etc. I think both of those players were overhyped a bit. They're still in the very early stages of their career and so far they haven't made the dramatic impact some thought they would.
  7. Ahhh... the old 'No Freakin' Way' games! Ugh. I love those games. I get especially annoyed when it's the type of game where your pitcher just gets rocked regardless of where you're pitching. I guess it does tend to happen in real games, but I hate giving up back to back to back jacks to guys with little or no power when I'm making good pitches.
  8. I think Mota has looked pretty good, but like some have already said his WHIP is a little too high. I'm not sold that he's going to come back down to earth. I think he still might be adjusting to his "new" mechanics that him and Maddux have worked on. There the same mechanics he used a few years back when he had some good years, but then changed his delivery in New York. I think we'll find out in a few more appearances which way Mota is going to go this year.
  9. Wow he tried to make a joke. Calm down. I guess I don't see the point in making the thread then. I even responded to his statement that it shouldn't be taken seriously, but this thread has no substance and I don't really see the point in joking about a team that most likely would be the replacements to injuries the Brewers may face and a team that the Brewers have no problem ripping apart for the expanded rosters in September -- and I have no problem with that. Look at last years playoff roster and all the players that were signed to fill the roster. And the "joke" doesn't make any sense if you actually look at what the Sounds have been doing as of late and not the record. They've won 5 of their last 7 and I thought it's too early to worry about the playoffs? Or does that just apply to the team in Milwaukee?
  10. He really isn't pitching "well" though -- at least in a relative sense to pitchers at his level. He has walked 10 dudes in 14 IP, and already given up 4 HRs, which is more than he gave up in 2007. Agreed. I'm somewhat on the fence whether Gagne is going to pan out this year yet and I've seen the good and the bad. I am surprised the support he's getting around here and I do hope you guys are right with him. If his name were Turnbow or McClung his head would have been called for a long time ago. Whether or not he's pitching well he's blown 5 saves. His job is to close games and he's not doing it. Hopefully it's bad luck or whatever you want to call it. I just don't want to hear fogged goggles or how often Gagne is used. He's going to be used to close games and if he's that fragile $10 million isn't worth it. When does Gagne not get a pass anymore? I hope it's just a bad luck stretch for him, but there comes a point and time where regardless of how well he's pitching he's just flat out not capable of being a dependable closer for the Brewers.
  11. Won't have to wait for the Sounds to finish the playoffs before promoting a few guys in September. Are you serious? They just took 3 out of 4 from the best team in the PCL (IRCC). If you've followed the team (which I'm assuming you haven't or you wouldn't have made said statement), they've been playing pretty darn good baseball as of late. The Hurricane was with the Brewers and Mark DiFelice was on the DL when they were struggling. Now they have their lead off hitter back and IMO the best pitcher in the PCL over the course of his tenure in Nashville -- and if you want to argue that look up his stats. this thread wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I'm just in a "looking for silver linings" mood. Then maybe you should've put it in blue or better yet not start a thread about a topic not to be taken seriously. Isn't there already a silver linings thread? I'm sure the Nashville Sounds players and fans appreciate your attempt at comedy, at their expense. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  12. I do not believe they were a good team with Yovani healthy. I don't want to come off the wrong way, but I do think some Brewers fan (myself included) have overhyped this team or put too high of expectations. When the Brewers weren't picked by the media in most circles to make the playoffs some of us thought it was outrageous and the media has no clue what they're talking about -- I do hope the Brewers can prove them wrong. I think part of this "problem" is that we've waited so long to see the Brewers in the playoffs and we want to believe it can happen and when things don't work out we just look at history. I think this leads to some being a little two critical. Gross and Turnbow have received a ton of hate around here (some warranted), but I honestly do not believe our 24th and 25th roster spot is going to make or break us at this point. Some have said 1 down 1 to go, etc., but in reality those two had little to do with the Brewers season up to this point. There were also several threads about how the Brewers must have CV and Parra in the rotation or management/organization is not fielding the best team. CV has been soild, but I don't think he's proven over the course of time he's the type of player that can get the Brewers over the top. Parra is still very raw. I think CV can turn into a very solid starter, but that's not a sure thing at this point and Parra isn't consistent quite yet. These two pitchers are both quite young and add a young Gallardo in the mix and we were relying on extreme youth with 3/5s of our starters. The Brewers also added some players who have had success in the past, but also have a question or several questions about them. Mike Cameron, Eric Gagne, Torres, Mota, and Kapler all have unique situations and we don't know how they'll perform over the course of the season. The signings of Cameron and Gagne were risky when they happened and are still risky at this point, but again it's a long season. Cameron looks like he'll be a nice player in the lineup, but I can't assume that over a handful of games. Another main reason why I don't think the Brewers are "good" in the short-term is the lack of certainty in AAA. Last year at this time we had Braun and Yo and got off to a very good start. This year we have some nice players in AAA, but I think it's safe to say we don't have known talent that can help -- especially with starting pitching and the Brewers approach with certain AAA players last year not getting called up. Finally, I think our main hitters on this team are still developing. Fielder, Braun, Hardy, and Hart all has good years last year, but scouts, pitchers, and coaches have had time to examine their seasons and have most likely found a few holes in their swing or ways to get them out. It may take these guys 1/2 the season to figure this out and adjust and their performance may suffer a bit. I also think Rickie Weeks isn't going to live up to expectations this year and I really hope I'm wrong. Weeks needs to be moved in the lineup or sent to AAA. I think the Brewers are very close to a good team, but the thing that scares me is that they put a few band-aids on the roster that don't appear to be long-term fixes so this next off-season regardless of where the Brewers finish will bring its fair share of questions.
  13. Branyan's home run was an absolute bomb. It was nice to see the Sounds swing the bats well. I'm starting to think this team can actually rebound somewhat from their poor start. Their offense has been much better with "The Hurricane" back for the past few weeks or so. It'd be really interesting to see LaPorta called up to AAA sometime this summer. Branyan, Nelson, and LaPorta would provide quite a bit of power.
  14. Has everyone seen the blog on the jsonline? http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/05/02/brewers-assume-gallardo-out-for-year.aspx Yovani coming back in didn't further the injury at all. If it did, then you're thinking this is a conspiracy. Any blame to Yost on this is just ridiculous. Is it Yost's fault there was a collision? It was a freak play and unfortunately it happened to the Brewers. I guess I'll just have to understand that there are some that will try to blame everything on Yost. Should Yo have been taken out? I'm sure he would've if the coaching staff knew the facts, but again it's a coaching staff. If Yo felt fine and the trainers felt it was ok, why take Yo out? Should every injury stoppage in baseball be a "gut feeling" or should the coaches trust those that get paid to make medical evaluations? This does stink and the Brewers at the present have lost any room for failure. I'll throw a name out here that I think could help the Brewers (not in a Yovani way, but in quality starts) -- Mark DiFelice. You can laugh at that statement, but the guy has pitched very well in the Brewers organization. I think this guy deserves a shot if needed and I think Weaver is going to take a lot longer than expected to get the rust off his pitching.
  15. It's not like we just cut Robin Yount or something.....it's Derrick Turnbow. He's been a waste of a roster space for to long now....good luck to him. It's comments like this I just don't understand. Nobody is comparing him to Yount, but I can't honestly say that Turnbow has been a waste of space for "to long now". He needs to get his stuff figured out now and whether that's AAA or another team we'll find out. He did have a lot of value even last year and years prior to that. And as far as feeling sorry for him I don't think anyone is feeling sorry that he's made millions, but I think they feel sorry that if he doesn't get it figured out this could possibly be his last time in the big leagues -- that is why I do feel sorry for him and I hope it all works out for him. I think it's funny how some can hate Turnbow so much -- does he try to screw up out there? I think Melvin said it best in the jsonline that hitters can hit .170 for a few weeks (see Rickie) and nobody is calling for their head and a starter can a have a few consecutive starts, but a guy in the bullpen needs to wear earplugs if he has a few bad performances. I'm not saying that Turnbow shouldn't be moved in some capactiy I just think Melvin's thought process makes sense to me. Best of luck to Derrick....or Rickie in Nashville.
  16. No he won't turn it around. This is clearly just your opinion. It's not like Turnbow is as bad as Ankiel or Wohlers right now in my opinion. I think he wants to close and he's not happy in Milwaukee. The "mental" part may work itself out. I just don't think he wants to be in Milwaukee and his recent struggles aren't helping his confidence. Those that haven't experience anything like this have a hard time understanding it. I was a pretty good shooter when I played HS hoops back in the day. But free throws gave me fits even though my form was fine. There's something about standing there and being the guy who initiates the action. I'm missing how playing high school basketball relates to a relief pitcher in the big leagues playing for a team, city, and fans that don't want any part of him. My opinion is that he can overcome the mental issues. He's never had great control and never will, but I think bf.net might be exaggerating the situation a little bit here.
  17. Is anyone else "struggling" with Braun? It's a lot easier for me to hit home runs with Fielder than it is Braun.
  18. I still think Turnbow will ultimately turn it around and be able to be counted on in the bullpen, but I just don't see it happening in Milwaukee. The fans have been pretty rough on him at times in the past where he may not have deserved it. He's been pretty bad this year and fans have a right to a certain degree to be upset with him. I believe the ideal scenario is that he gets dealt, but I don't know how much interest there would be in him.
  19. I thought this thread was going to be what he said on the Cubs broadcast last night... I'm paraphrasing...Righties are hitting .150 against him and lefties are hitting .147 so I guess we're hitting .300 off him! I thought it was pretty hilarious.
  20. I have a feeling Sheets is going to get rid of the rust pretty quick here. Hopefully his early pitch count won't hurt him later on in terms of a nice long start. Get out of this inning with little damage and we're good to go...if our offense can get moving.
  21. Sheets is looking a bit rusty. How fast is he throwing? I have the Cubs feed on mlb.tv and he's hit 92 and 93 a few times, but his fastball has been 87 - 90 most of the time. That's a concern if it's true.
  22. I've been looking everywhere but can't find the info as to how I'll receive my money if I owed the Fed money on my 2007 return? I paid them electronically out of my bank account, so does that count when they're talking "Direct Deposit"? You'll have to look on your 2007 tax return. Under "Refund" on the second page is your bank account information filled out there? This can be filled in regardless of whether you have a refund or have to pay.
  23. What determines if you receive your rebate check via Direct Deposit? I don't remember ever being asked? If I recvd a refund this year for 2007 taxes and used DD, does that mean my rebate check will come via DD? As far as I know, yes. It's based on your 2007 tax return. Even if you had to pay taxes there is a spot on the return to fill in your bank account information and if you did that you should be receiving the money via DD.
  24. There have been multiple stories this week about how the rebates are going out quicker than they thought. Basically if you read on article on this before, all the date information has changed. Though, I think there's a schedule on Direct Deposit, same as checks. I thought it was 00-21 will have direct deposits by May 2. Oh I understand that. The bottom part of the article with the schedule just looks to be inaccurate to me. Those that were schedule to receive them this week on Friday appear to be getting them earlier. Has anyone received their check that was schedule to receive it next week?
