  1. Welp… so much for that series at Camden.
  2. I don't think that is correct. From MLB Network research: The winner of Game 3 in a best-of-five postseason series tied at 1-1 has gone on to win the series 39 of 54 times (72.2%) entering 2021. I am wondering if the difference might be that the 54% is Division series only (1995 to present) while the 72.2% number includes the DS as well as the LCS from 1969-1984 when it was best of 5. Just a guess at why there may be a difference.
  3. An article today at The Ringer indicated that the Brewers are only the second team since 1947 to have five pitchers with 110 IP or greater that all had an ERA+ of 130 or higher. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2021/10/8/22715627/milwaukee-brewers-pitching-staff-corbin-burnes-brandon-woodruff https://stathead.com/tiny/NGxDk
  4. Exactly this. It's not the playoffs, it's a play-in. No one is hanging up a banner for being WC2. I hope not at least. I’m pretty sure the Brewers hung one for being WC5 with a losing record last year.
  5. Not very often. In the nine full 162-game seasons since 2012 (18 wild card races), 10 of the 18 have been within one game of each other. Prior to the 16-game difference this year between the Cardinals and Dodgers, the largest gap had been 6 games (2012 Braves, 2017 Yankees, and 2017 Diamondbacks). Of those 3, the only one that lost the WC game was the 2012 Braves (to the devil magic Cardinals who benefited from a controversial infield fly call).
  6. Most playoff appearances in the last 15 seasons: 11 Dodgers 10 Yankees 9 Cardinals 8 Red Sox Two of these four will be gone before the divisional playoffs, and I can't say that I'll be shedding tears for any of them.
  7. Well, except for the fact that Walker Buehler is starting for the Dodgers tomorrow and is only .06 behind Burnes in ERA.
  8. Since the all-star break (prior to today's game): Narvaez: 184 PA, 3 HR, 21 RBI, .234/.283/.335 (618 OPS) Pina: 95 PA, 8 HR, 23 RBI, .262/.347/.595 (943 OPS)
  9. This. And not only that, THIS Brewers team is probably the best positioned team in all of baseball to be able to cover for a top-end bullpen arm going down. If you include Ashby, we have 6 legit starting pitchers and will only need at most 4 in a playoff series. Counsell and the organization have shown the willingness in the past to be creative when the circumstances require it. And they have almost a week to figure things out and try out guys in different roles to see how they react. Don't get me wrong - it will make winning the World Series harder. But it's not like we are rolling out Brent Suter to start Game 2 of a playoff series this year.
  10. I don't know... I pay $60 a year to The Athletic to have "experts" like Keith Law tell me that Zack Wheeler is going win the NL Cy Young AND the NL MVP award.
  11. I believe he had a couple of top-5 country hits back in the early 90's.
  12. Looking back on it (at least in terms of my anxiety level this week), Vogelbach's Ultimate Slam was probably the biggest hit of the year.
  13. Who had Luis Urias leading the 2021 Brewers in plate appearances back in April? 2021 (with 5 games remaining): Urias: 2.8 rWAR, .249/.345/.444, 789 OPS, 110 OPS+, 557 PA, 22 HR, 73 RBI Grisham: 2.8 rWAR, .239/.325/.410, 735 OPS, 104 OPS+, 508 PA, 15 HR, 59 RBI And for fun, let's compare Eric Lauer to San Diego's two big-name SP acquisitions: Lauer: 2.5 rWAR, 113.2 IP, 7-5, 2.93 ERA, 145 ERA+, 1.117 WHIP, 3.84 FIP Snell: 1.3 rWAR, 128.2 IP, 7-6, 4.20 ERA, 93 ERA+, 1.321 WHIP, 3.81 FIP Darvish: 1.4 rWAR, 166.1 IP, 8-11, 4.22 ERA, 93 ERA+, 1.094 WHIP, 3.89 FIP
  14. Including today, Cain and Pina were both in the starting lineup in 26 games. The Brewers are 14-12 in those 26 games. Thank you for this. How’d you find that? I’m glad I’m wrong as I like both players a lot. Not sure why it felt that way. There may be an easier way, but I used the game logs from baseball-reference (and Excel) to find which games they both started and the record in those games. Took about 5 minutes but I was looking for something to distract me from the meltdown taking place.
  15. Including today, Cain and Pina were both in the starting lineup in 26 games. The Brewers are 14-12 in those 26 games.
  16. If we lose today, it really is not hard to come up with a scenario that the Cardinals enter the last series against us with control over their own destiny for the division. This is not at all possible. Our magic number is 3 and we have 3 games left after we play the Cardinals next week. The earliest they could control their own destiny for a division TIE would be after Game 160 for both teams.
  17. This thread is going to be fun to look back on Thursday night after we win the next 2 games.
  18. Trivia question while we wait for the game to start: Which ONE of these players never had a season in which he led the Brewers in Plate Appearances? Yasmani Grandal Nori Aoki Scott Podsednik Pat Listach Domingo Santana Jody Reed Jonathan Villar Jean Segura
  19. Clinching a playoff berth with 14 games remaining on the back of a multi-HR game by Manny Pina and HR’s from Jace Peterson and Eduardo Escobar. Just how we drew it up in April! On a side note, Manny Pina now has 12 HR in 186 PA. Christian Yelich and Keston Hiura have combined for 12 HR in 621 PA.
  20. If they do IL Garcia, they will likely need to carefully navigate the fact that he is currently 10 PA away from converting the 2022 club option to a mutual option. While it would be consistent with the approach they have taken with other players and not rushing them back from injuries (i.e. Wong, Adames, Taylor, Vogelbach), the MLBPA and Garcia's agent might see things differently.
  21. Many of my favorite Brewers' memories over the past 15 years include Ryan Braun. In the late 2000's, a brewerfan.net user (jarjohm?) created audio highlight mixes for the 2005, 2007, and 2008 seasons. I can't tell you how many times in the last 13 years I have listened to them, but my favorite part was Game 162 in 2008 vs. the Cubs. Listening to BA, Rock, JP, and Ueck call the highlights set to "Put On" still gives me chills every time I listen to it.
  22. I had the same issue beginning at 10 AM until about 10:35. Then I tried again at 11 and got through right away. Got 4 in the Terrace for Monday night.
  23. I might be wrong on this, but isn’t the magic number still 5 until (if?) the Cardinals lose tonight? They still only have 69 losses (to 70 for the Reds).
