  1. Kintzler and Parra are both hurt... Parra has a bad injury history and may need TJ surgery, Kintzler is trying to come back but may also need TJ surgery. I don't see how either one fits.
  2. Thanks for that insightful and informative post.
  3. I'm not sure I understand why the O's are years away from contending? It makes alot of sense for them to lock up Hardy as their young pitching should only get better with age. Unless of course people think that Matusz is really an 8+ ERA pitcher? The O's shouldn't take any propsect package worse than what the compensation would be for losing Hardy in free agency.
  4. If we trade Kris Davis for 30 innings of KRod I'll be absolutely livid, as will I if we gave up Manzanillo. Davis has legit power and Manzanillo is the only top tier power arm left in the system now that Jeffress is gone and Rogers is hurt. I'd be fine trading one of the 1B like BK, or an OF like Haydel, and a pitcher like Nelson, I guess I could even live with a reliever like Meadows who's going to be solid but doesn't wow you with his stuff. Anyone who has legit talent, or a stand out tool (Davis/Manzanillo), or is a starting pitcher and is having success should be left alone... just say no to Fiers, Bucci, Heckathorn, or anyone along those lines. If you want to trade a starting pitcher then go with guys who have averagish stuff or are underperforming like Merklinger, Nelson, Ross, etc... and no Ross isn't performing well and hasn't had much success in 2 months. I find trading for relief pitching to be very underwhelming, there just isn't much value there in half season... or a full season for that matter. Honestly, I'd rather only ever trade relief prospects for relievers. edit. McClendon is a reliever who's had MLB success, there's no way you get Gamel for KRod with Prince leaving as a FA.
  5. I think it speaks more to how uneducated our country has become as a whole on these matters. At our family outing last year my own mother started giving me grief in the right field loge seats because I didn't remove my hat. I said "It's God Bless America, it's not the national anthem and has nothing to do with the flag". Well then my aunts and uncles started chiming in as well as the people around us so I had to give a history lesson, but in the end I was wrong even though I was right. It was supposed to be a nice tribute to the fallen and our troops in the field following 911, a very nice thought, but that's as far as it goes.
  6. I don't know how Furcal can be considered the best option for all scenarios... If we're talking for the stretch run and people are willing to gamble he stays healthy and it only costs us someone like Farris, okay let's take a shot. Farris has no long-term starting role in Milwaukee and doesn't have the skill set to be a utility player. However then we need to acknowledge that Melvin still has to address the SS situation again in the off-season. If we're talking about acquiring someone long-term, then there's simply no way Furcal is the best option. The ultimate goal here should be to at least get back to a 2 WAR situation, at least be league average, and that's difficult to do when Furcal spends so much time on the DL. So I ask, what's the context of the discussion? Are we talking 2011 only or are we talking through 2013 or 14? I say 2013 because that's the absolute earliest a SS solution from inside the organization would be ready.
  7. That depends on if you're talking about Furcal for the rest of the season or trying to do something more permanent doesn't it?
  8. I agree, but I bet the teams would disagree as they like to follow players throughout the summer to make some final decisions.
  9. I've thought about him off and on... especially when I was trying to figure out a way to get Feliz away from TX (before he was converted to relief). I like Gamel more, and I'm sure people will once again start up about how he didn't hit when he was up, but he was a different hitter this time. He was aggressively going after pitches and while he didn't always make the best decision, I liked that much better than his passive trying to walk and taking strike 3 approach in 2009.
  10. The vaunted tendonitis diagnosis... code for a slight tear that they are trying to rehbab instead of going with TJ... at least in my opinion. I like Parra's diagnosis... sprained elbow legament, on a throwing program with no ETA... another situation where surgery should just be done and move on. It's interesting that a sports related ankle sprain is usually a legament tear so while technically not an incorrect diagnosis it's like football teams calling ACL injuries "knee sprains" prior to the MRI results. edit. BTW, "Aha!" made me think of that scene from Coming to America.
  11. I wonder if he even got to spend the night in a nice hotel before returning to the best westerns of the world.
  12. yep I thought the 79 was cleary a curve with a decent break... not great, but average or maybe slightly better. The angle is tough though for a RHP tailing something away... it's hard to tell if it's the angle or the pitch moved.
  13. So that was a change, the first one looked like it moved away from the the lefty, the 2nd just looped in there.
  14. Thornburg is on the mound right now in the 5th. Thornburg's first batter: 95 MPH FB, 79 Curve (looked good), 95 FB, 95 FB... ground out they are talking about reports labeling him a reliever and discussing delivery issues. 2nd Batter: 95 FB, 82 MPH breaking pitch (couldn't identify it, want to call it a change?)... ground out 3rd Batter: 79 Curve, 82 MPH breaking pitch again, might be the curve.. hit to left 4th Batter: 94 FB - fly out to left
  15. Matt Moore is pitching right now from the Rays, his first 3 pitches... 95, 99, and 100... as a starting pitcher, left handed, with great control... and ohh my goodness a plus slider to make Liddi look silly. Moore and Price, 2 LHP pitchers headlining that rotation, I would think in the next year or so. I wonder who they trade to make room for Moore? Neimann?
  16. I'm shocked we're seeing Cordero again today, wouldn't mind hanging another los on him.
  17. Hehe... spending 30 million on 3 years of Wolf (possibly 40 million over 4) is better than spending 30 million on 6 years of Chapman is it?
  18. I'd trade relief prospects for a reliever, but not a starting pitcher or a position player.
