  1. Butler struggles again but BC hangin in there. Also, Narron with 4 scoreless so far, he sure does know how to pitch.
  2. Hmm, Brewerfan.net strikes... like points on your driver's license, only better.
  3. I use IE exclusively, sorry I didn't mention it early. No problems since I got home, but I've "only" been catching up on my reading for 30 minutes or so.
  4. Just say no to VORP! Of all the the stats out there, it's my least favorite, because it's the least realistic. The relative talent level and depth of an organization determines the player's value to his team, and nothing else. I understand what they are trying to do, but the game isn't played on paper and isn't played in a vacuum where the mythical replacement player exists.
  5. What opportunity has Dillon had in MLB? Why would you use 1/4 of a year's worth of total MLB ABs when you can easily look at his minor league numbers and see what he's realistically capable of?. Every single guy on this team was once someone without MLB experience... this is like the Corey Hart arguements all over again. My opinion is, and always has been that Dillon will put up an OPS in the mid 700s to mid 800s if he plays everyday. He wouldn't be a star, but he'd be right around average, which is fine by me, and I love his approach at the plate. Again dismissing someone like Dillon because he hasn't accomplished anything at MLB isn't very objective, you're only considering a very small sample of his career.
  6. As far as trades go, I'd much rather rent a starting pitcher than a reliever. However does CC's aquisition put this team over top? I'm not sure 1 guy makes that big of a difference in a season. Would it be enough to catch the Cubs or get the wildcard? Again I'm not sure. It's not a bad deal at all, I'd rather not dump prospects unless the deal would be "the difference" in a season. If the crew was 2 games out in the divisional race I'd be all for it, right now I'm not so sure. I'd hate to end up empty handed again and push prospects farther away from Milwaukee again. I'd be very surprised if a Supplemental pick made it to MLB in less than 2 years... count on 3-4, when Laporta is a year or so away.
  7. It was still happening yesterday.
  8. Lame, I went to bed right after the Brewer game and missed this, I didn't even check the box of game 2.
  9. I figured this was the most likely outcome after the aquired Cameron, Branyan made it even more likely. Hall was always going to be the first guy to go. There isn't one factual based opinion in that statement. Dillon has plenty of pop in his bat, he hasn't settled in yet... How long did it take Prince to start hitting HRs and he was playing every day? I'm not thrilled with the idea of fans that don't adequately research their opinions, and then post those opinions as facts. It's not reasonable to say that someone who hit 20 HRs in AAA has no pop in his bat...
  10. Wow he missed his spot by 10 inches but it was still a strike, nice job Torres!
  11. no way they double up Upton, but at least they get the lead runner.
  12. That is the type of play I will remember Hall for... it should have been routine.
  13. He sure does like pitches up the zone... that was a bomb. edit. Whenever he swings and misses at one of those I always think of that exchange from "A League of Their Own"... "Lay off the high ones... I like the high ones!" or something to that effect.
  14. I wonder if the unpredictability of the Brewer draft pick effects these mock drafts. The only predictable selection the Crew has made recently was Weeks, maybe people are just trying to match wits with Z. With college football as possibility I find it hard to believe he'd be a straight out first round pick myself.
  15. I thought about that, but for whatever reason Braun doesn't like batting 4th to break up the lefties. Gamel and Hart are both too good to bat in the bottom 3rd of the order... like I said, there could be some really interesting lineup decisions. Both players hit for similar power numbers, hit from the same side of plate, are close to the same age... so I'd take the player with the better BB to SO ratio which is Gamel... hard to go wrong either way though. I admit to being somewhat biased, but I made an effort to be objective.
  16. Chapman and Caufield are 5 for 35 and 5 for 37 respectively in their last ten games... yikes. Periard has puts up 6IP, 3H, 0ER, 4SO, 0BB line... 2 solid starts in a row, he may be turning the corner! Cain 2 for 5 with a 2B and a HR. Huntsville's game 1 a disaster at the end, with 3 unearned runs. Is it wrong that I look at the Nashville boxscore each game this series hoping to see Pie with a HBP? I don't know why I dislike him so much... he's on the same level for me as Bonds, except he's not any good, it's so irrational.
  17. For the fans that mostly work the MLB forums on the site I could see where it would be real easy to overlook him. There was no Gamel tracker in the IGTs, he's always been overshadowed by Braun, and he started slow last year. Once he started hitting though he didn't stop, his 30+ game hit streak put him on the map, but again, I don't recall if that made the MLB forum or not, Mass posted about it daily over here though. Again after a slow start last year he really took off and played great all the way through Winter Ball. As he continues to gain confidence he continues to get better in all aspects of his game. To Toby's credit, he's always been very high on Gamel, which I guess always made me check his line in the box scores, because I wasn't sold on him early, I was a skeptic. As he continues to make strides with his defense my expectations continue to rise for him. His bat is good enough he could be a .300ish, 30HR, 100RBI guy year in and year out. However the RBIs would depend where he bats in the order. If both Gamel and Fielder were on the same team, you'd almost have to move Hart to lead off and bat Gamel 5th, I'm not sure, I'd have to think about it. With Braun, Laporta, and Gamel... he'd probably bat 4th and Laporta 5th, and Hart moves up to 1 or 2. There would be some interesting lineup decisions that would have to be made, that's for sure. With all of the above average hitters, a solid arguement could be made for any number of different lineups. I highly doubt that 2B is in either Braun's or Gamel's future.
  18. The key for any small market team is to determine which players will form your core, because you aren't going to be able to afford everyone. The key for the Brewers is this question, is Prince Fielder someone you can build a team around? My answer to that question is no, he is not. He's an outstanding hitter, maybe a good leader, and that's about it. I always figured they'd have to move him for a younger 1B when the time came, but with the power prospects behind him, maybe we could get what this team really needs, quality young pitching. The idea is worth exploring, even if nothing happens. How could Laporta possibly be worse than Prince at 1B? If he can field a short hop throw he makes the entire defense better... Why does seemingly every thread in every forum turn into a Fielder discussion?
  19. I don't think Salome needs to catch everyday, he hasn't at any stop thus far in his career. He's only catching 2 out 3 days at AA right now, and if what X posted was true about him working everyday with Charlie Green during his suspension, then that would explain his much improved defense. I often wonder how much time the minor leaguers really get to work on improving their defense during the season? A catcher would get to work on game calling pitch by pitch, but it not's the same for a fielder. In Salome's case, he was air mailing throws and giving up way too many passed balls, I'm not sure you can necessarily work on that during a game. To me that's a repitition muscle memory thing where he'd need a coach drilling balls in the dirt over and over for the passed balls, and to have value he'd need to get out of his stance and make 40-60 throws a day (I say that only because that's how many throws I require my QBs to make between long and touch passes everyday, I have no idea what would be a good number for a catcher). The more he throws on top of his regular catching duties, it stands to reason the greater the risk he throws his arm out, much like a pitcher.
  20. Yea I was thinking results wise he had a shot, but for this list it really comes down to projectability, and he doesn't throw 96 and his K totals are not high enough.
  21. I don't get hung up on College vs HS players, I agree with the statement above, take the best available talent.
  22. The real story is that if Braddock and Jeffress produce this year they'll be in BA's top 100. The system is not devoid of very good pitching prospects, they are just in A ball for the most part. In fact, there are more quality arms in the system now than I can remember at any time in the past. I guess I can see where someone would look at the AAA and AA rotations and see just a bunch of guys, but there's quality pitchers in the system. edit. I should add that I have no doubt that Laporta, Gamel, and Salome are top 100 prospects, even if BA doesn't give them all their due. I'd be happy with 2 or 3 on the list at any one time, but going into next year the system could legitimately have 5 players on that list.
  23. This is one of my favorite threads of year thus far. The top ten VII sucked, too much going on with extra people and all the mistakes that were made, but the first 6 were good, the original video (now unavailable) was very thought provoking.
  24. Ha, I've been doing that since I was in little league, I was down to tee-shirt and shorts within a minute after the game was over, that's just how I roll! Now that I coach once I'm on the buss after the game I untuck, before we get back to school... at work I untuck as I get into my car at the end of the day. I've always been more comfortable that way for some reason, I have issues I guess. I like a loose shirt and shorts, I even sit around in shorts all winter long (unless it's brutally cold or I'm sick).
