  1. I know it's early, but Brewer continues to put up horrific SO numbers. Everyday I look at the box score hoping to see a 0... after a year and 16 ABs, I'm beginning to think it might be a fruitless endeavor on my part. I've been firmly on his bandwagon for a long time, but if he doesn't improve, I'm not sure how they can promote him for promotion's sake. Though I guess far less talented players have continued to move up with similar results. Learn some patience young man!
  2. TLB is close, but it's not the same. For example, my whole life I've had astigmatism and it didn't get diagnosed until just recently. My perscription for glasses and contacts was updated every 6 months, but I still couldn't pick up the strings on a ball, and sometimes when the clouds were just right color, I'd lose fly balls in the clouds in the outfield (which drove everyone nuts, they assumed I just wasn't paying attention). It wasn't until I recieved lenses last year that are specifically designed for my condition that I could read road signs at a long distance and so on. I never knew what I was missing, but I must say it's awful nice to be able to see like everyone else. When he said that he could see the strings on the ball now... well lets just say I sympathize a great deal. It was hard enough being a reactionary hitter at my level, let alone at the MLB level. He's not gonna hit for power, but he doesn't have to. It would be nice if everyone on the team was a 20+ HR threat, but I'm pretty satisfied with the aquisition through the first week of the season.
  3. Rluz, Absolutely the pitcher has to hit his spot, but how many times would a pitcher be up in the count and then spike 2 balls in the dirt? That's wasting pitches, and the hitters were good enough to know that they were going to waste a couple of pitches, so the bat rarely left the shoulder. It really got me going when Schoeder would chime in about how spiking pitches is good strategy... making someone chase and spiking pitches in the dirt that aren't anywhere near the strike zone are 2 different things. I got so mad last year during the collapse that I started watching the games without sound so I didn't have to listen to Bill. I believe the staff as a whole will pitch better because they have better talent this year, however I think the holdovers will pitch better, some will say that they simply bounced back, some will believe it was the game calling. It doesn't matter to me either way as long as the Crew wins, I just think that in baseball it's very easy to use large statistical samples to overlook the little things like a single pitch in a single at bat that effects the outcome of the game.
  4. Some people will never believe that the catcher has a huge impact on the pitching during a baseball game. The pitchers get all the credit and all the crap for their performance. I'm on record numerous times saying that I thought Moeller had a big impact on Sheets in 2004 and Estrada was a terrible game caller for the entire staff. Just because something is difficult to prove statistically doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The biggest different I've noticed is that there is no nibbling this year, they get 2 strikes on the hitter and they go after him and get the SO or the ball gets put in play. Last year there were a ton of 2 strike hits and worse, 2 strike walks. Though it's only been 6 games and I've only watched 4, I don't remember a single 0-2 or 1-2 count where the batter ended up walking this year. It will happen sometime of course, but the pitchers aren't wasting pitches like they did last year. edit. I should add that one of the games I missed was Bush's start against the Cubs and I missed the game on Saturday as well.
  5. One of my favorite day's of the year, the Link report has returned.
  6. I must say I like this pitching staff, WV might be my team of choice again this year... I've always been sort of partial to Nashville, probably because the players are closer to the bigs, and Helena because of the recent draftees, but last year I started listening to WV and got caught up in the hype.
  7. It's always better start 1-0 than 0-1, but it's especially nice to get over on the Cubs.
  8. I have no problems with Ned, I'm one his few supporters left around here. I just didn't like signing his kid who's not very talented. I had no problem with Hart, I thought that was a classy move given all that had happened to the young man. I just don't like the gravy training... regardless if he's a nice guy or not. I would rather the Brewers hire the best man for the job, and if IV is the best man than so be it. I highly doubt that's the case, which is why I said it was a pretty generous offer.
  9. Interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it, I had pretty strong opinions about him which I've kept to myself. I will say I think it's generous of the Brewers to make the offer.
  10. sbrylski016.... He's alright for a stat geek....
  11. If you're into roleplaying games then buy Oblivion and the expansion packs, but play them in order... that's a good 150+ hours of gaming. I've always been down with Civilization, I just played my 40th game of that last night. It's a turned based game of global domination. Civ IV is pretty cheap and there are expansion packs for it as well. Once you get good you can finish a game in about 3 hours, but Civ IV is definately something that you generally save and them come back to later, I've had games that last 8-9 hours in the past. If you like shooters, Halflife 2 was fantastic, and should be pretty cheap, I believe there are expansions for that as well, but I ruined my original disc and did not play past the original.
  12. Indiana Jones... by far.
  13. I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say.
  14. The answer is simply that Parra would not pitch out of the starting rotation in October, rotations normally shorten to the top 3 pitchers, which I'm guessing would be Sheets, Suppan, and Yo as Suppan is the only starting pitcher on the team who's pitched in the playoffs. Whomever the 4th and 5th starters are would likely pitch out of the bullpen at that time ( 2 of MP, DB, CV).
  15. I get the concerns about him as continues to climb the ladder, but I don't understand where you say he would have stalled. I could list 20 other current Brewer Minor Leaguers that have been far less impressive and have continued to be bumped up the chain. If you can hit, you'll make AA at least... to have stalled in A ball, well those guys couldn't hit a lick, and Salome's issues have been defensive in nature.
  16. Melvin seems to have a philosphy of throwing power arms against the wall and see what sticks. It's worked well for him to this point, but I'm not overly excited about him either, walks drive me nuts, they've always been personal pet peave.
  17. 1. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter were the best, between myself and my college buddies we must have done the trench run 300 times. 2. Rebel Assault 3. Battlefront 4. KOTOR The character driven stories didn't much appeal at the time as I was playing MMPORGs and these games were always a distraction from those, but having recently really enjoyed Mass Effect I may have to go back and revisit them.
  18. Stalled? Based on what? He's a catcher that hits like a corner outfielder. He was hurt 2 years ago (broken bone) and suspended last year. The suspension called his character into question some, but I'm personally more concerned about Jeffress than I am Salome. There are questions about his height as well, as he's only around 5' 7". He has a career BA > 300, career OBP > 350, and a career OPS > 800. He'll get AA time this year and we'll see if he's for real, but to say he would have stalled if not a catcher seems pretty baseless for someone who champions statistical analysis, when he's never trended negatively in his career. In fact I would say that he secondary stats point to him being a legitimate hitter more so than someone who would have stalled out. Last year's stats Career Stats
  19. Real Sports had a very interesting piece this week on pitching mechanics work by former Cy Young winner and current MD Mike Marshall, I couldn't help but think of the long list of Brewer power arms that have flamed out with shoulder and arm problems. The mechanics he's come up with are radical compared to what we've all learned, and not so surprisingly, no one cares about what he's preaching. He charges the atheletes he works with peanuts and most everything on his website is free. I was captivated by the piece. Dr Mike Marshall's Website
  20. An old debate for sure, but after 3 years mostly complete, who would you rather have? When I was watching them play in Highschool I was upset that Matthews didn't want to play at UW as I thought he was the better player. They play different positions, but given how their careers have turned out, who would you rather have? I should note that UW is my first love, but I also root for MU when they aren't playing UW, so my opinion isn't totally unbiased. I'd rather have Landry at this point, but it was much tougher to decide than I thought it would be when I was watching Marquette this afternoon. While I'm on record as not being thrilled with his defensive efforts, I think his all around upside is higher. I expected Matthews to be a beast, but he's been the glue for MU, he's their version of Krabbenhoft in many ways. Maybe I just had lower expectations for Landry and ended up pleasantly surprised.
  21. Didn't he lose a year because of a visa issue of some sort? I think last year was his first year above rookie ball.
  22. I find the insights interesting, and it appears that it's a good release of sorts for you. If you enjoy it, by all means keep blogging away, I'll keep reading.
  23. LOOGY? Seriously? I'm on the record numerous times that I view the LOOGY as the most useless pitcher in the bullpen. How do you get value at 1/3 of an inning at a time when most players get themselves out 70% of the time? He's a starting pitcher but they could limit his innings as a LOOGY? Sorry to crack on you TLB but that's such an incredible waste of his talent I'm really surprised it was posted. I have no issues with him in the bullpen early in the year to cut down the innings, but if Parra stays healthy he's a SP at the MLB level, how do you ever stretch him out for the rotation as a LOOGY? As long as it came up, I truly hope the Brewers don't waste a roster spot on a LOOGY this year.
  24. All that's left if the Bewers to sign Keith Ginter back for a minor league deal and it will be proof that god hates me, that's all I have to say about this.
  25. Jazzy nailed it.... Giving up 3 prospects for 20 innings, regardless of the prospects, didn't sit well with many of us. I never viewed Linebrink as a savior and never thought he'd be the difference in the season down the stretch. It was a question of value for many of us, and personally speaking with all of the troubles the Brewers have had developing pitching I have a very hard time with any deal that includes pitching, especially a deal for 3 pitchers that nets us a backend bullpen guy for 20 innings or so. It's just how I felt about it. Following the minors Inman was someone you could root for, if for no other reason than his quotes always made me a chuckle a bit. I still hope he succeeds, though I quit following his career after he was traded, I was more interested in what Thatcher was doing... though I did read Mass's updates as the season wound up.
