  1. Yes their record was a fact but that has nothing to do with their talent. I find it really funny that you posted that and then listed them as the 3rd best team in the division even though they most likely had the biggest offseason in the division. I would argue that their record had everything to do with their "talent". I thought our football team had better talent than 2-7, we were in every game, we just couldn't get over the top. So while we could have 6-3 or 5-4, we really were a 2-7 team in the final analysis, because that was our record. I understand where you are coming from, but to disregard their actual record and call them a below .500 team is a disservice to the truth. You can say you expect them to be below .500 this year, but last year's team regardless of how you feel about it was a 90 win team. I don't want to continually beat a dead horse but it's so clear to me that there's so much more to sports than pure talent, I just don't have the vocabulary to verbalize how I feel. IMHO the good teams are better than the sum of their individual pieces... there's a mystical quality when it all comes together that's very difficult to define. I know certain people are going to blast this post like they always do because they feel you can remove the mental and emotion side of baseball through a large enough sample. However, I've said it before and I'll go to my grave believing that you cannot analyze wins and losses on a large sample, when games are won and lost in the small sample. The small sample of a single AB is what makes the game compelling....
  2. Everytime I go on vacation or get assigned to a special project, something catastrophic happens in one of the facilities I support for my company... A server goes down, a critical PC crashes, a construction crew cuts a fiber run, ad electrician blows out an entire panel (he was fishing wires into the panel with metal fish tape, not a solid plan). These things never happen unless another technician is covering for me so I always end up dumping the absolute worst problems on my coworkers. It's getting to the point where I feel bad going on vacation and what not.
  3. Did you mean per game? Or are you still taking shots at him?
  4. I'm surprised Agent39 didn't respond to your post Blazer... must be on the wrong forum for him.
  5. When we do know what the compensation will be for letting him walk? (please try to use subjects that explain what the thread is about, rather than just a player's name. -TC)
  6. The 49ers were always favorite non Packer team as well in the NFC... in the AFC I've always been attached to the Bills... and it just occurred to me that I must love futility in the Brewers and Bills.... but that's a tangent. Hockey I love the Red Wings, I have since NHL 93... I was always a Blackhawk fan until then. I was playing in dorm tourney (yes I should have in class at the time) and in the finals and down by 5 goals into the third period. I ended up scoring 6 goals in the 5 minute period. (5 moves(deke) and a 1 timer) to notch the greatest come from behind win ever! Later that year I did the same thing with Quebec Nordiques, I loved they had a center that could score on all 3 lines. Then they ruined it by moving to Colorado and became the hated Avs, who I can't stand... much like I feel about the Cubs. In basketball I was always a Laker fan after Sid and the bucks, probably because my dad was a Celtic fan. Magic, Worthy, Jabaar, Scott... man I loved that team, and the NBA back then. Now, I don't watch a single game unless I'm with someone who happens to watch, like my sis. In baseball... I always liked the Indians and the Braves, and I have no rational explanation why... Major League proved to me that I wasn't alone, then in the 90s both teams got good and it wasn't as fun to be a fan anymore, but I still remain loyal. I'd say I have a thing for the underdog team, but the Lakers really didn't fit that description, they've been decent most of my life time, at any rate, that's my list.
  7. If highlight film music could only be about sports... well there would hardly be a song available that wasn't classical or a sountrack. Good rock music (rock being very general in this case) is rarely about anything than women, drugs, sex, or violence... the thing is what the song means to you as others pointed out. It's something unpredictable but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life. Poweful words, that had many people in the room misty... the ovation from the room when the senior tribute was done playing was quite moving. Songs usually mark moments in time for me, and I acheived that for the senior kids, Green Day will always be linked to football for those 20+ kids, that's what I'm looking to do. Thanks all for your suggestions, some great ideas in the thread, I knew you'd all come through for me.
  8. The crew at Brewerfan has never let me down when it comes to this. I'm stumped again on music, but this time I don't have a specific song I'm looking for, more an idea. Last year I ended the highlight film with "Green Day - Good Riddence (The Time of Your Life)", I was driving in the car and heard the song the day after I had actually completed the highlight film for the football team... the song was so perfect I recut the end of the film to get it in there. I like the idea of sending the kids, especially the seniors, away with that same message, but I'm drawing blanks trying to come up with something, and I hate using the same song in a 4 year window. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  9. This has easily been my favorite thread on the board this year...
  10. I was looking at 1-7 to 1-9... $500 range for a do it yourself type thing.
  11. Has anyone had experience building their own DVD duplicator? It looks pretty straightforward, but I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience. I'm looking to save myself a couple of hundred bucks by building my own for copying DVDs for my football team. It takes forever to create the DVDs one at time each week and for the highlight film at the end of the season.
  12. WV... If you linked your photobucket account something must not be correct because all the pictures are 90 degrees the wrong way. That being said, please keep them coming! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif edit. I'm dumb and didn't read the entire thread before posting, Kat already took care of it.
  13. Matt LaPorta's 2007 Campaign The Website for Minor League Baseball is your friend when looking for stats from this year. The Link Reports by Mass, Colby, Pogo, and some others have the box scores for the games, which also list the current stats.
  14. I find it somewhat humorous that all these people that have gotten banned from here seem to write letters to the staffers saying how they are happy to be gone because the community sucks and blah, blah, blah. Only to go on and grind their axe about this site on other message boards. Obviously it means something to them, which presents the question, if it meant so much to you, why jepardize the privilige of being part of the community in the first place? It's sad to me that people think they have all these inherent "rights"... they aren't rights at all, they are priviliges, and far too many people fail to understand or comprehend the difference.
  15. I find napping inbetween helps with the irritation... that and well, there's so much to teach.
  16. He had 2 horrible starts when he was down with Mono when he first got promoted to AA, he's been decent to good since then.
  17. Season Finale tonight, anyone else looking forward to it?
  18. Brent Brewer has struck out 142 times, and is still batting .260ish. Just for fun I played around with his numbers, his BABIP is over .510. I'm not a big fan of the "What If" game, but if I did math right he'd be hitting over .340 with half as many strike outs on the season given his BABIP over those 71 ABs. If this kid can learn some plate discipline we'll have something special here. His power numbers are excellent for his age and level, just those pesky Ks.
  19. Healthy pitchers... Jeffress Periard Seidel Anundsen Bryson Tyson DL pitchers with potential Rogers Braddock There's quite a bit of pitching depth the only problem as it stands now is that it's all at A ball or lower. In 2 years when everyone is at AA and A+ it will look quite a bit better. If Rogers makes it back and is healthy he'll start at A+ I would think, maybe AA, but if he doesn't reign his control it's hard to be excited about him, especially since he'll lose a couple of MPH off like all pitchers who've had shoulder surgery. I'd throw both Rogers and Braddock into my "intrigued by" catagory, where as I'm "excited" about Jeffress, Periard, Bryson, Tyson...
  20. Buck Rogers must absolutely love his job, I don't recall any MiLB GM with more enthusiasm and passion for his team, every week we seem to get something special from him. It's probably not that often, but it sure feels like it.
  21. Wow this Helena game is great, Tyson with a huge strikeout, 2 out top of Nine. edit. Ohh no, a little league inside the park home run with the aid of an error and Helena down 1.
  22. Rough start to the game for Bryson, 3ER through 4. Of course I missed the start of the game because the because the Brewer game got interesting... edit... dang he had some tough luck after reviewing the game log, he's given up a bunch of hits but a BB and HBP came around to score, and the other run scored on a Balk, that's a tough outing for his first start. Then as I'm typing this Pasma gives up back to back no doubters to center and left, Helena down 5-0.
  23. Dang Pogo, where were you when I was arguing the prospects for rentals on the trade forum! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. I'll probably tune in and listen to Bryson's start, but I like Periard too.
