  1. MLB Exta Innings is the greatest thing to happen to TV ever. I would not be able to survive without it.I just wish MLB EI was set up like NFL Season Ticket where all the games were broadcast. I got it a couple of years ago so that I could watch all the Red Sox games in addition to the Brewers games and found that a lot of the Saturday Day Games, that NESN was carrying by the way, weren't carried on EI. That sucked because I was actually hoping for more day games when I bought the package and the DirecTV people told me they don't carry many of the weekend day games at all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Rp
  2. I'm not entirely sure about Pudge. Canseco named him when he named Raffy and the other Texas guys as guys he introduced to steroids. Pudge has denied it but let's face it Canseco has been 100% correct so far on his accusations. Remember he fingered A-Rod when the media tried to protect him from Canseco's allegations by attacking Canseco's credibility. Whether you like the reasons for his outing of guys or not the fact remains he's been right about all of them and Pudge was one of the guys Canseco mentioned specifically. If that gets more play before the HOF vote I don't think Pudge's numbers are fantastic enough to withstand a steroid scandal. Rp
  3. Certainly could happen, right? A lot could change, in terms of perception. A couple of other things: 1.) How about that "Guitar Hero" commercial with A-Rod and Michael Phelps? 2.) I am not buying A-Rod's "geez, I don't really know what I took" explanation. He knew. I'm not either. I'm also not buying he only did PEDs from 2001-2003 and I'm also not buying that he, like many others, just didn't switch to HGH which they knew they'd never be tested for. The guy lied straight to Katie Couric's face on national TV. What is to say he's telling the truth now? Rp
  4. This assumes McClung will even pitch well in the pen at all. He has not been good in the bullpen which is precisely why he wants to be a starter. His performance as a starter lowered that ERA and made him statisically successful. In the bullpen he has not performed well and I wouldn't doubt he'll be a downgrade from whomever he replaces for that slot. Rp
  5. I honestly don't care one way or another about the making a profit thing. Profit goes all the way around here... from the players taking the roids to make more money, to the teams who want these stats to draw audiences and then raise ticket prices and to MLB in general who garners better ratings from them. Canseco is no more guilty here than anyone else. Frankly the guy called out A-Rod as being a user a couple of years back and the media basically spat at him for it. Now he's 100% vindicated and every guy he's called out has been proven guilty thusfar with the exception being Pudge Rodriguez (whom I believe is probably guilty as well). And I'm surprised no one else has mentioned that if this touches A-Rod, this likely touches Pujols. Everyone who has spent time with Canseco or McGwire has found themselves with access to this and the list at this point is ridiculously huge because it trickles down from their direct contacts to people they had contact with. Not to mention the same can be said for those who contacted Radomski, etc. It's like the Kevin Bacon 6 Degrees game at this point. Rp
  6. Yeah I think that when HOF voters look at Thomas' numbers I hope they consider those steroid testing demands he always put out there. Thomas was right in that roid-induced numbers cost him a lot of money and likely HOF votes. Rp
  7. $8 million a year? No way does Looper command that kind of money. Rp
  8. And once again Jose Canseco is vindicated. Can people stop attacking that guy now? He's been pretty much 100% dead on with everyone he has accused. I also wouldn't be surprised if we found out the Pujols has been on the juice or HGH since he was around McGwire before he retired. Whomever Canseco or McGwire came in contact with they seemed to taint by providing an outlet for those players to also pick up the drugs. Rp
  9. Anyone catch the other night when Matt Vasgersian was hosting the Hot Stove show and on his panel he had Harold Reynolds, Barry Larkin and Mitch Williams and when he went around asking who they thought should be a 100% vote-getter for the Hall of Fame Williams said, "Lee Smith" and Vasgersian just seemed to lose it calling Williams "Nuts" several times as they went off the air? Rp
  10. I think I can do this. Sounds like fun. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I agree. I think everyone has this mentality that if we wait until the deadline someone will fall in our laps but in reality what happens is we wait until the deadline and yes there are more names that can be moved but also more highly motivated bidders looking to lock up a preseason bid. So you end up having to give more prospects away in a deal because you're competing with 2-3 (or more) teams rather than being the one of maybe two teams trying to piece together a deal that fits when there's far less pressure. Rp
  12. The advantage of waiting until June or July is three-fold. 1. You only have to pay half of his salary. 2. You get to see what position your team is before deciding to spend a ton of money. 3. See how the economic conditions affect the Brewers attendance. I completely understand your point that Peavy could help in April and May as well. However, I think the Brewers want to see how their current players fare first. (If Yo throws out his arm in the first week of the season - it probably doesn't pay to trade for Peavy anymore) Peavy would only be a few wins over the entire season better than McClung. So there really isn't much hard in waiting. Even if Yo goes down if you have Peavy you are definitely closer in the race. Not to mention you don't just want to trade for him if we're in it at the break. I would think we'd want him because he's one of the top 5 pitchers in Baseball and he can help us for the rest of his contract... and at a rate that is considerably cheaper than much less talented pitchers have gotten the past couple of years. Rp
  13. I think Scott Boras has all of his clients overplaying their hands. It backfired this weekend on Varitek. His ploy to get Manny to sabotage his way out of Boston so he could make commission on a new contract (he would have made nada if Manny stayed in Boston and had those two $20 million year options exercised) telling him he would make 4 years/$100 mil and putting that number in his head has clearly backfired as well. Now I wonder if he's leading Prince down a similar path. What if in two years the economy is in similar condition and Prince's weight/defense don't improve? While I think Boras has gotten a ton of money from the Yankees, Boston has made him look real bad the last few years... most notably with the Matsuzaka deal. I think GMs are starting to get the better of him and somewhere down the line there will be a tipping point where players realize he can't get what he promises anymore. And if the Yankees aren't bidding against themselves, there's no way you're getting what Boras says you will. Rp

  16. It comes with the territory... no matter what you write about you're bound to get disagreement and if you're writing about anything with any passion you're bound to get passionate disagreement. If he can't handle the criticism then he should quit rather than being insulting and wholly unprofessional in his replies. Rp
  17. There's a bit of exaggeration in this statement. It's a very slow period for sports news in general and extremely slow for Baseball... of course a 24 hours sports news station is going to talk about a high profile player's contract situation coming to a head at this point. There's very little else to talk about (unless we want to rehash 2 million pointless cliche'd Super Bowl week interviews). I know that most Brewers fans and small market fans in general hold ESPN in contempt for how much attention they give to the Red Sox and Yankees but if they didn't draw ratings as well as they do then they wouldn't be covered as well as they are. If Milwaukee can string together a few serious seasons of contention they will get in the conversation as well. Let's recall that the Packers are always talked about as if they were God's Gift to Football and Favre has been covered as if he were Jesus himself. ESPN will cover whatever draws ratings no matter where they are located. Rp
  18. Aside from his inaccuracies the guy is a jerk to anyone who disagrees with him on his blog. I'd prefer a professional writer who could handle some criticism or disagreement over Haudricourt who is pretty much a hack in my book. Rp
  19. Yes, that would be the one... and of course I would want the legit copy and not a dub... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Anyone know where to find it? Rp -Edited to note: Actually I found that they have copies at the Public Library of all places. I'll pick up a copy and give it a view for old time's sake from there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. I personally never thought Suppan was worth a big contract although I did make the case that we shouldn't have had a difficult time signing him if Pittsburgh was our main competitor (ie our team should be regarded higher than Pittsburgh by free agents now). I think we also need to recognize that the huge decline in the market now makes Suppan completely unmoveable. Whereas you might have been able to shift his contract somewhere before there are a million cheaper options out there now because of how far the free agency values have fallen. I don't think that drop was foreseeable when Melvin signed Suppan but it does sort of point out the idiocy of a back-loaded contract that inflates right around the time you have to start paying your top guys big Arby money. Suppan's signing in itself wasn't Melvin's failure, it's the backloaded nature of the deal that has helped squeeze our budget and make it difficult to pursue the players needed to contend in 2009.... that was Melvin's failure here. Rp
  21. Speaking of team videos... does anyone happen to have a copy of the 1987 Brewers Team Video? I remember watching that as a kid on our Beta machine like a million times but I can't seem to locate that video anymore (let alone find a DVD of it). Rp
  22. Wow, I think you're heavily overrating our prospects... it's one thing to be a Brewers' fan, it's another to be overly biased towards our guys. Look we really don't know yet what we have in Gamel and if Jeffress can keep himself on track he could be really good but Lawrie's pretty far down the line still and Escobar to me looks like a great defensive SS who can't hit a whole lot... Unless something dramatically changes this year I see him as the next Cesar Izturis more than the next Jose Reyes... and personally I'd rather trade him for pitching and try to keep JJ. Then the team can try to groom Gamel for 1B and we can decide what to do with Prince before the deadline next year. Personally I am more inclined towards paying JJ than to pay Prince since power hitting first basemen are easier to come by than great hitting, good fielding shortstops. Rp

  25. Maybe but if personality was the determining factor for the HOF, the hall would be much, much emptier than it is now. Rp
