  1. Rematch today - I hope the Brewers try plunking Zito on the bench. I don't mind Zito plunking Prince. I do mind that Macha hasn't had Prince's back. I'd love the whole team go into "screw you" mode - if you don't like it, stop it! Ned always took his teams side. Macha never takes his teams side. Can't we just have one coach who will bench a slumping player - but still support them in the press?
  2. Actually, a few teams have implemented more advanced ticket pricing strategies. If opening day tickets are worth $50 for a Loge seat, why should the Brewers sell theirs for $25 only to have someone else profit on that mark-up? Should a Sunday afternoon game really cost the same as a Tuesday night game?
  3. Lasik really helped turn Bill Hall's career around. I loathe the obligatory "Player X had lasik and/or wears glasses now" stories from Spring Training. I doubt anyone has ever seen a noticeable difference in their performance.
  4. I'm not so sure about that. MLB has partnered with Stubhub to re-sell tickets. All you have to do, when selling your tickets, it enter the code on your actual ticket and the purchaser can "print at home" brand new tickets for your seats. There is no way this would happen without MLB approval, so there must be some agreement. Also, scalping is the free market at work. The problem is that the Brewers implement an outdated ticket pricing strategy. They should be charging whatever the market will bear for that games tickets instead of two simplistic levels. (Marquee and Non-Marquee) As long as the scalpers stay in their designated areas - there really isn't a problem.
  5. Too bad he isn't eligible, I'd really like to see where LaPorta would have been ranked. I'm a little surprised Brantley didn't sneak into the top 100.
  6. I'd much rather have 3TO at $2M than Damon at $8M. Not that 3TO is a steal at $2M - Damon is just that big of a joke at $8M.
  7. Sounds like Gagne is going back to the Dodgers on a minor league contract. $500,000 if he makes the roster.

  9. Two & Too agree on this one. The Brewers selected Lofgren figuring he could make the roster as a left out of the bullpen. But Lofgren has been a starter in the minors and would be able to continue working as one if we work out a trade with Cleveland to keep him. Parra and Lofgren have quite a bit in common. Before 2008, Baseball America had Parra as the 82st best prospect in baseball. Lofgren was ranked 81st.
  10. Villanueva has options left. I expect he will start in AAA and either Lofgren or Narveson will stay in MLB. Narveson is out of options and is unlikely to clear waivers. I also doubt Heether makes the club. He was added to the 40-man this year. We can still keep him at AAA for three years before he is a free agent. (I believe)
  11. Pat Morita and Tom Hanks were nominated for their roles in The Karate Kid and Big, respectively. That makes my day. I had no idea.
  12. With the free agent additions, isn't Lofgren pretty much gone already? I can't imagine him making the big league roster. I'd really like to offer Cleveland a little something to keep him in AAA and let him keep working as a starter.
  13. rootkit.agentH My computer is infected. I've spent at least 30 hours so far trying to remove this virus!!!!!
  14. Some of the charts make gold look like a great investment (Disclosure: I own some), it really isn't. Those charts focus on the last 10 years mostly - the 100 years before that the price was very steady. There is no potential for compounding interest. With stocks, the base company (presumably), is able to take their profits and reinvest over and over again into a venture that makes money. Hence, the investment and the company grow exponentially. The same thing can happen with dividends or interest - your investment grows, so the return on your investment grows even more. Gold does not have that luxury. As mentioned, it is a hedge against the fall or civilization. The best thing about gold is how easily it is transferable. Any large cash or stock transfers during life or in a will is subject to various potential taxes. Gold can just be "given" without the tax man knowing. Lastly, I think silver is probably a better investment right now anyways.
  15. I hate the idea as well. It really minimizes the excitement of the mid to small majors that have fantastic conference tournaments. The Big Ten tournament, while mildly exciting, isn't really needed. The conference tournaments where only the champion will get into the NCAA tournament - fantastic! (Being a huge Gonzaga fan, the WCC conference tournament is held each year in Las Vegas and is amazing. Everyone knows the Zags are getting in, but the other teams are playing for their lives for the upset to sneak into the tournament. The WCC tournament, for me, is as exciting as the NCAA tournament) In that sense, the NCAA tournament already is expanded. You just have to think of the conference tournaments as "play-in" games.
  16. Thanks to all those who replied. I'm not sure if the mechanics every hooked up a sensor to the computer or not. I assumed they had, because we've looked at the problem several times. (Two different mechanics) The idle is just really low - until it idles off. There is no up and down revving. I've thought of the battery problem, because the lights dimming as the idle goes low seems electrical. But this is at least the 2nd (maybe 3rd) winter I've dealt with this. So if it was a better or connection it would presumably happen during the summer as well. I've thought about increasing the idle as well. Not sure if they can still do it - but since it is above 10 degrees 95% of the time, I don't want to mess with my idle just for those situations.
  17. I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan with 215,000 miles. The inside is immaculate. It's never leaked a bit of oil (or other fluid for that matter). The oil has been changed every 3,000 miles and all other required maintenance has been followed. It runs perfectly. In the summer. (Hence the nickname - "Snowbird") On VERY cold days, it doesn't idle properly. It will start right up without any problems, but the low idle struggles to hold consistently. When I start to drive, and increase the idle with gas, it runs fine. But as soon as I slow to stop or turn, I lose power and the engine shuts off. I can immediately start it back up, give it a little gas and go again. It starts back up every time. I can usually tell just before it is about to die as the lights dim as the van struggles for power. (It died about 7 times on the way home from work today) I've taken it to two different mechanics with no luck. (Of course, it usually isn't cold enough for the van to act up). My father-in-law said he thinks it is just the internal computer needs to be replace. (Which is pretty expensive - and just his "guess") Plus, how can that be tested without just buying a new computer? I'm willing to put some money into the Snowbird, but I am sick of paying mechanics to NOT fix the problem. Ideas?
  18. I'm sure Al would have had him at #1. Glad to see some Peralta love. While KLaw certainly is in love with Castro, I think he is pretty accurate on Escobar. I just don't see Escobar becoming much more than he already is. How high should you rank a good, but not great, player?
  19. Add Philadelphia's Tyler Walker and Milwaukee's Seth McClung to the short list of free agent relievers on the Marlins' radar. Florida also was impressed by former Brewers closer Derrick Turnbow's recent workout. Miami Herald

  21. Couldn't the Brewers just "trade" for Lofgren by sending something to Cleveland for him? That way we would have 3 options on him. Correct?
  22. I feel like Arenas is going to pull a George Constanza - "Is that not allowed? Because if I had known that was frowned upon..."
  23. I'd love to get in on Brett Myers and Erik Bedard. I'd also love to watch Ankiel as our 4th OF. Of course, I don't expect any of those things to happen.
  24. FernGully, errr "Avatar", was pretty good in 3D I spent the first 30 minutes thinking "this is really cool" - but by the end I didn't even notice that it was still in 3D. Point being, at some point, the story takes over and you kinda forget about all of the visual effects.
  25. I'd HATE that deal for the Brewers. We would be trading our starting 3rd baseman and possibly our best two pitching prospects. But I agree, that is a comparable deal.
