  1. A writer at SI.com had his "Best Fit" as the Brewers. I could live with Pavano, Wolf and Mulder. Seems like a that would solidify our rotation pretty good.
  2. They were both placed on waivers, and cleared, last season. Cincinnati already tried to give them away for free.
  3. Philly has shot down all speculation. Not saying he can't be traded, but it seems very unlikely.
  4. Alcides, after a slow start, has his OPS up to .751 after collecting 15 hits in his last 10 games. Unfortunately, 14 of them have been singles. Heether has a miserable .214 batting average - but a .390 OBP. Hernan has an .817 OPS in over 100 at bats.
  5. Yuck. I guess Bailey isn't a poor choice, but I like Andrus and Porcello contributing on better teams. Coghlan is insane. Hanson and Happ both clearly deserved Rookie of the Year over Coghlan. Coghlan might have been #5 on my list. The good news is that at least Coghlan will be a good trivia question in five years.
  6. ARG!! They should have resigned Counsell before trading away Hardy. Didn't Counsell clear waivers this summer?
  7. Yeah, but they could at least list them with the correct clubs. Granted, Bourgeois was a recent departure. But we traded Gillespie almost 4 months ago.
  8. You'd really be willing to head into the 2010 season with Escobar as your starting SS - with only Heether backing him up? Heether is not a SS. I like Heether, but if Escobar is the starting SS - signing a veteran like Counsell is a top priority. Come to think of it, they probably should have resigned Counsell before trading Hardy.
  9. They have Cole Gillespie and Jason Bourgeois listed as a Brewers. Actually, they have quite a few non-Brewer players listed.
  10. I've always felt that labeling someone as a "5 tool player" is misleading. Hart has 5 tools - but none of them are much more than average.
  11. Arroyo has two outings in 2008 of less than 2 innings and more than 7 runs. He had one such outing in 2009. No doubt that he certainly has his "blow ups" - but I'm willing to sacrafice a few games. If anything, those "blow ups" make his year end stats deceiving.
  12. The Brewers really could use an innings eater with Gallardo and Parra in the rotation. How about a pitcher, who could have been had for NOTHING last year? (As he cleared waivers) Bronson Arroyo's last 12 starts were all over 7 innings with less than 3 ER. He had over 20 quality starts last year. He has pitched over 200 innings in each of the past 5 years. He is signed for 2010 at $11M. With an option for 2012 for $11M. ($2m buyout) I'm still mad that we didn't grab him for nothing. With those last 12 starts - we might have actually played meaningful baseball in September.
  13. Jackson, however, would benefit from moving to the National League.
  14. Bedard actually doesn't fit into the Brewer's plans very well. I am a pretty big fan, but... 1. He isn't really an "inning eater" - often complaining about high pitch counts 2. With Yovanni and Parra struggling to pitch into the 7th, we really need pitchers who can toss a complete game from time to time. I'd love Bedard because he has some amazing stuff. But if possible, Sheet is actually a better fit.
  15. With how the Brewers are clearing out money, I would be shocked if they offered arbitration to Cameron. I'd like him, but unless he already has an contract agreement with another team - I doubt the Brewers will take that risk.
  16. Am I the only one who thinks Looper did a pretty good job pitching with a minor injury all year? I'd offer him arbitration. I could deal with him for another year.
  17. I don't think "Heether added to the 40 man roster" makes anyone expendable. Either Heether or Gamel will open the season in AAA. I'm really happy for Heether - he certainly deserved it.
  18. Exactly. Lackey may be the "cream of the crop" - but there are several players more talented available. He has a career 3.81 ERA and dwindling strikeout numbers. I am terrified to give him anything over 4 years. If healthy, I think Sheets, Bedard and Harden all have better stuff. Myers, Randy Johnson, Pedro, Lowry could also potentially put up similar numbers with a lot less of a commitment. Lackey is no Sabathia.
  19. Toss in Myers, Lowry and Garland to that mix. Sign two of them (short term) and I can head into the 2010 season pretty content. He's probably done - but I'd also add in Jason Schmidt on a minor league contract. With his injury history, maybe he is interested in working with Peterson.
  20. I wish the Brewers had claimed Bronson Arroyo from the Reds off of waivers last year. I could certainly deal with Arroyo for 11M and Gomez in centerfield. My biggest concern is a long term contract for a very average pitcher. I really hope the Brewers pursue a few reclamation projects like Harden, Bedard, Sheets and Myers.
  21. I haven't read the entire thread - but after going through about 8 pages, it seems no one has mentioned that the Brewers might just be positioning themselves for 2011. I doubted they would be able to contend in 2010 with a young Escobar, Gamel and Salome and no pitching prospects ready to help. In 2011, they will still have Prince, Braun and Yo. They will also have a year of experience for Gamel, Escobar, Salome and Gomez. They will also have a bunch of pitching prospects knocking on the door in Rogers, Braddock, Butler, Arnett and more. I, for one, never saw the point of spending $10M on Cameron to have a shot at the playoffs - but no realistic shot at the World Series. However, if they trade Prince Fielder before 2011 - this trade will go down as epically horrible.
  22. Gabe Gross John Maine Kelly Shoppach (Brewerfan.net would collectively wet themselves) Chien-Ming Wang Bobby Jenks Those are a few of the names from MLBTRADERUMORS.COM that stood out to me.
  23. Gamel's lowest OPS in the minors has been a .827 - his highest OPS has been .923. He was ignored (incorrectly) by some, but he has produced at every level. If Gamel had a "break-out" it was probably his 33 game hitting streak in 2007 (Before Hawaii)
  24. Braddock pitched 71.1 innings in 2008. In 2009 he pitched 40.1 innings. (And that doesn't include the AFL) He has made at least 23 appearances in each season.
  25. I'm pretty sure they didn't want that information given away for free. I downloaded the entire PDF while it was still available. As homer mentioned, there is a listing of Brewers projections at Brewcrewball.
