  1. In Battlekow's interview with him at Brew Crew Ball, Anundsen says he used to be able to hit 93 mph in high school. He also says when he really rears back, he can still hit 91 when needed. If Anundsen can ever get back to sitting at 91 mph - he becomes a very legit prospect. I'm a pretty big Peralta fan - but other than injury history, I have no idea how you can't have Braddock as the top pitching prospect. This season, between A+ and AA, he has 13.9 SO/9 and 1.9 BB/9 as a 21 year old. Those numbers are better than when Gallardo pitched at Brevard and Huntsville - although Gallardo was also a year younger.
  2. This was discussed in the Hardy for Buchholz thread as well. I didn't create a separate topic since it isn't really a rumor - just a bloggers idea. I like the idea, but Al probably was right with his assessment that they would never trade Hardy for two players who won't be on the team in 2010.
  3. You two are locked up in the definitions. I would think Pierre is very luck dependent because he puts everything in play. However, his actually play is consistent because he at least puts everything in play.
  4. Huff hasn't played in the OF since 2006. The reason he would only require a borderline prospect is because a 1B who has a .751 OPS isn't very valuable. If I was convinced he could play RF well enough, it would seem reasonable. I would imagine Gamel would be a better RF without ever having played the position.
  5. In the other thread you don't think adding Bedard AND Washburn would improve out starting pitching. In this thread, you think it won't be hard to improve our starting pitching. The only consistency I ever find in your posts is that everyone else is always wrong.
  6. Bedard is right on the boardline of being a Type A free agent. In addition, the move to the NL will adjust his rankings to compare him to other NL pitchers. Plus, he has 1/2 a season to pad his stats against NL batters. I would say the chances of him being a Type A free agent are very good. Washburn would not accept arbitration, even at 11 million. Why would he take 1 year at 11 million versus 4 years at 30 million? (I.E. Brian Shouse)
  7. It would likely improve the Brewers this year. (Hardy = Escobar) Bedard steps into the line-up and is definately an upgrade when healthy. Washburn helps this year and next. In addition, Bedard and Hardy would both likely be Type A free agents and net similar draft picks.
  8. U.S.S. Mariners think the Brewers should trade Hardy to the Mariners for Bedard and Washburn. I like how they think.
  9. The thing is, he never really could play CF. If I remember correctly, he has one of the worst arms in all of baseball. That said, I think Milwaukee fans would love him. They are obsessed with speedy lead-off hitters who play CF.
  10. From Saturday's Toronto Sun... "The Jays are a financial mess," said one scout whose club has been involved in trade talks with Toronto. "They could say: 'If you want Roy Halladay ... you can take an outfielder, too. I know the Jays have both Vernon Wells and Alex Rios out there (in trade talks)."
  11. Any word on why Braddock hasn't pitched since the 7th of July? He had been pitching every 3 days (2 innings) since joining Huntsville.
  12. Any word on why Braddock hasn't pitched since the 7th of July? He had been pitching every 3 days (2 innings) since joining Huntsville.
  13. I really want to go see The Hangover. The wife wants to see it - but not that badly. It's much easier when she doesn't want to see it at all, and I can just go to the theatre without her. Now I am stuck waiting a few months for it to come out on DVD.
  14. Cortes, though, has had his share of off-the-field problems. A week ago, he was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after being caught urinating on a fence in Springdale, Ark. In 2005, just after he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox, he was involved in melee outside a bowling alley in Los Angeles and was stabbed numerous times. "He stubbed his toe a couple times," Zduriencik said. "I had a discussion with him today and told him that's not acceptable. But everything we know about him … is he's a good kid." Reading between the lines, I have to imagine the Royals are just cutting ties with Cortes because they don't like his make-up. (Like Lasting Millage) Otherwise, the Royals are idiots.
  15. Brevard County has to be very happy with their pitching performance today. Two shutouts lead by Rivas and Periard.
  16. My biggest complain is that I do not think the Brewers are contenders in 2009 without Rickie Weeks. Next year, the Brewers will likely return every important player. In addition, Hardy will be traded for pitching. We will also have a better hitting catcher. Most importantly, next year all of our prospects will be a year old and potentially more valuable. Our biggest "trade weakness" right now is that we don't have any pitchers. This year, Peralta has pretty limited value as a "A" level pitcher. If his success continues to "AA" he could become a huge trading chip.
  17. How dare you inject reason into others fantasies! Melvin loves Escobar. Melvin has stated several times that Escobar is MLB ready. Melvin would trade Hardy for Buchholz in a heartbeat. This has already been discussed, on this board, for a lifetime. Unless you are willing to include another top prospect going to Boston (Peralta), you might as well stop wondering.
  18. I would think that is pretty much a given at some point.
  19. Maybe this was the first move by "deputy" GM Ryan Braun?
  20. I think people often ignore how vital Escobar and Gamel are to the Brewers long-term financial future. Escobar cannot be traded. They are counting on his rookie salary to allow them to pay players like Prince, Braun, Suppan and Hall. There is no way the Brewers can keep JJ Hardy and add a HUGE salary (Halladay) going into next year. JJ would have to be the centerpiece of the deal - and I can't imagine that is enough to entice the Blue Jays.
  21. Well, at least everyone is being inappropriate... I wonder if Braun or Melvin can even see the high road from down there? Braun is still a kid. Melvin is an experienced executive. Both are wrong - but Melvin should know better.
  22. I'm currently shopping for a mortgage. So far, I have one lender at 5.5% on a 30 year fixed rate with around $1,200 in closing costs. I figured I would try a little research on Brewerfan.net to see what others have paid in closing costs and obtained as a mortgage rate. (I have an Aunt who paid 12% on her mortgage until she paid off her house. Of course, back in the 70s and 80s rates were much higher)
  23. I tend to agree - but he does have a .350 OBP so far in AAA. And since I would imagine the long-term plan is for him to bat lead-off - I like the practice in AAA.
  24. I really like that Escobar has started batting lead-off. It would be nice to see his speed at the top of the order - and give Weeks a chance at a few RBIs. SS Escobar 2B Weeks LF Braun 1B Fielder Yep, that would work for me.
  25. Take look ahead at the Brewers schedule. The Brewer's wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without beating up on the bottom feeders such as Pittsburgh, Washington and San Diego. We still have 9 game against Pittsburgh. We have 8 games against Washington. And 6 against San Diego. By the end of August the Brewers will be in first place again. I have no idea if they can hold on through a tough September.
