  1. You could add Tony Pena as a potential closer. Not a bad idea. Scherzer certainly would seem expendable to some extent. (Although, Randy Johnson is obviously gone after this year. And Doug Davis only has one more year) You would probably need some other top-flight prospects. But Arizona's system is pretty bare from the Haren trade.
  2. You don't look up young pitchers before you need to. Just too much injury risk. I would take Gallardo year by year until he gets to his last year of arbitration and then look to lock him up. Locking up Weeks long-term could be a crippling move to this franchise. At some point, you have to let his potential go. He has been in MLB long enough, that it is becoming likely he never becomes an all-star type player. In addition, with all of our OF full already - you would be 100% committed to Weeks playing 2B for years to come. That is a scary thought to me. Hart would be my top priority. He is a very good all around player. He made some comments about wanting "security" in the off-season, so I imagine he is open to it. He is also the most consistent Brewer.
  3. Davis was not pitching very well for us. (And Arizona's defense makes him look much better than he would on the Brewers) Eveland came to spring training overweight and out of shape. I think he really needed the change of scenery to help him blossom. I doubt he was going to live up to his potential as a Brewer. But, of course I would rather start either of them than McClung or Bush right now. (But heading into this season I would have taken Sheets, Suppan, Capuano, Bush, Villanueava, Parra and Gallardo over either of them. Two season ending injuries and two poor performances changes a lot of things.)
  4. So how upset would everyone have been before the season if told that on May 23 the Brewer's bullpen would include Zach Jackson, DiFelice and Dillard? (Not to mention Villanueva - with McClung in the rotation)
  5. Certainly true. But it does at least lessen the chance of NY being interested in Prince. I know Buster Olney from ESPN said he thought Prince would be traded after this year. Given Prince's complain about his contract, his attitude so far this year, Boras as his agent, and a possibly ugly arbitration hearing - it unfortunately seems possible.
  6. NY wouldn't offer that for Prince. It would be much easier for them to just sign Texeira as a free agent this off season than unload their farm system. Texeira's pending free agency really limit's Prince's value. That said, Prince will obviously result in a decent haul. But I would think the Texas/Atlanta trade of Texeira is a good basis for Prince's value.
  7. Thanks for the numbers Herb. It seems like everyone just points to Weeks' low BABIP as justification that he has had poor luck. While that is true to some extent, there is clearly a difference in BABIP on a weak hitter like Kendall v Braun. I just haven't seen Weeks "drive" that many balls this year. He has had some bad luck, but I doubt he crosses over .250 BA anytime this year.
  8. He probably isn't good enough to play any position as a full-time starter. So the more positions he can play - the move valuable he is off the bench.
  9. I don't know if anyone noticed... But Turnbow is really bad.
  10. To be fair, Counsell has a .580 OPS with runners in scoring position this year. (.826 with no one on base) Career wise, your assessment seems fairly accurate.
  11. I'll be content just to hear you explain how Sexson's performance after the trade is irrelevant - but the performance of the players obtained (Capuano, Overbay etc.) after the trade is relevant.
  12. I agree. I am just temporing some of the excitement. I think J.J Hardy plays good defense and has a higher offensive upside than Escobar. Escobar will probably play better defense, but have less offensive impact. (Look at how Hardy started last season - that is his ceiling. I doubt Escobar will ever approach that, though, he may end up more consistent.)
  13. To be fair, Escobar has around 9 or 10 errors already. And Hardy isn't exactly bad at defense. Escobar will likely replace Hardy. But I doubt he will be much better - just a cheaper version.
  14. Not good when my responses are being compared to Dusty Baker. Not good at all. (The last Brewer slump must have gotten to me) I wasn't saying Prince's walks were not an asset to the team. Obviously getting on base has value. But it has more value for a #1 and #2 hitter than it does for a #4 hitter.
  15. Gabbo would have been much cooler.
  16. I noticed that yesterday about Errecart. (I think he was around .899 OPS before yesterdays game) We would all be talking him up quite a bit if not for all the other players mashing at Huntsville. The problem is, we don't exactly have an opening at 1B.
  17. 150% scam. Never talk to them again. Nothing good will happen. Everyone won a free vacation. My brother won a "free vacation" a few years back. After talking to them for a bit, they needed his credit card number to ensure his place - even though he was assured the vacation was "free". When my brother got off of the phone, he didn't feel right so he called the credit card company. They had just billed him over $1500. (He was obviously able to have that taken off) Your best case scenario is that they make you sit through hour upon hour of time share promotions.
  18. Ok - We'll try it on the old thread then. Has anyone actually went to get a "key" at any of the locations?
  19. Gofindthekey.com has a few billboards up around town, a few commercials on the radio, and usually a small ad at the top of the sports page in the Journal Sentinel. The first two places to "go find the key" were Miller Park. So I am assuming this is Brewer related... Anyone know what this is all about?
  20. Nice read - and the research is well appreciated. However, Podsednik for Lee is probably around #3 for me.
  21. That is a very impressive outing for Jeffress. We really need a pitching prospect to blossom. So far several have had difficult springs.
  22. Recent chat wrap with Jim Callis. I've never seen Salome play - so it is nice to hear a few positive reviews regarding his catching ability.
  23. He bats 4th in the line up. He has a productive hitter in front of him and behind him. (The only person on the Brewers who can say that) He had an OPS of over 1.000 last year. The only thing keeping his numbers respectable is his walks. And frankly, we need him to drive in runs - not get on base for Hall and Hardy. His slugging percentage is horrible thus far.
  24. The dirty secret no one is really talking about is that Prince has been pretty bad this year. Apparently Yost realizes the same thing - or else he wouldn't have called for the double steal. Well, unless Yost is just an idiot.
  25. So do you want Doug to base trades off of fan perception? So the coming decline of Sexson is irrelevant to any argument - but the Texas Ranger's fan's opinion of Cordero is relevant? I understand your desire for "high ceiling" prospects. But that only pushes success farther and farther down the road. Not to mention, many "high ceiling" players fail to pan out. The Brewer's were able to get a year and a half of Cordero and will end up with two draft picks with a "high ceilings". So in the end, we got both. It is important to remember that Doug has Jack Z at his disposal to help turn draft picks into those "high ceiling" players. I do not believe Doug would have signed Gagne for $10 million if he didn't think Gagne would leave via free agency and net the Brewers two draft picks. (Which seems very unlikely now) Actually, that would make this much harder. I don't speak Chinese. It seems that you completely disregard scouting departments. If you sat down with Melvin and he told you that the scouts thought Sexson was going to struggle in the coming years and Cordero was going to rebound - would that justify either trade in your head?
