  1. Rickie Weeks having 3 errors is further proof that judging a player's defensive abilities based on errors is a joke.
  2. Exactly. Turnbow. Isringhausen. Corpas. Lidge. Gagne. Cordero. I know Soria is being compared to Mariano Rivera - but what makes Rivera great is that every year he has been fantastic. Soria has not proven that (and can't for another 5 years).
  3. Boy, does this ever read like a vent thread. Melvin is a very good general manager. He has built a system that will help the Brewer be competitive year in and year out. That is his biggest accomplishment. My only complain with Melvin is that he often overlooks defense.
  4. Two draft picks. One sandwich and one second round pick.
  5. No. David Ortiz is much better than Joe Dillon. The DH gives a huge advantage to American League teams.
  6. I'd rather include Weeks than Parra. Weeks just isn't very valuable. His OBP is hovering around .315 and his power comes and goes. In addition, he is a pretty severe liability at 2B. Finding a comparable replacement isn't very hard. I understand his "potential", but personally - I am past his "potential". I think he is just a streaky player who will always be a liability in the field.
  7. Now that is the Huntsville I remember...offense exploded again today for 12 runs. (Box Score) Gamel, Escobar and Gillespie had good games.
  8. Bill Hall has to be one of the worst base runners I have ever seen. Single by Braun and a double by Fielder to lead of the inning and the Brewers end up with no runs. Unreal.
  9. This is actually very complex subject. MIT professors can claim that he has no advantage using the carbon-fiber blades. But what about in the future, when technology advances further? At some point, bionic legs will be an advantage. It gets pretty hairy when you start dealing with the energy that the blades return (the "spring" effect) versus how a ankle & foot works on a human body. They try to limit the amount of energy return - but they don't know the exact amount that an actual human leg returns. In addition, there is the problem of "running tall". How tall is this runner? You could fit him with prosthetic blades that would make him 5'7" or with blades that make him 6'3". That would be a huge difference in how long/big his blades are - potentially giving him an amazing advantage. It is my understanding that they adjust your height based on how tall you "would be" with real legs. But that isn't an exact science either and several amutees have accused others of "running tall". I hate to say it. But I think he has to be disqualified.
  10. Seconded. You fellas always sound so smart.
  11. I am 100% guilty of only following the Brewers minor league players. I never check who they are playing - or even look at the opposing team's box scores. I just happened to catch that Allison was pitching. You have to admit, two pitchers with drug-related incidents in their past makes for an exciting game!
  12. You would have to include Parra instead of Bush. I'd take at least one more year with Prince. That gives Gamel and LaPorta adequate time to play in MLB on a regular basis. It also gives the Brewers time to gauge whether Prince has any intention of being a Brewer for a long time.
  13. No trade clause just means he gets to decide where he goes if traded. It doesn't mean he is 100% loyal to Milwaukee. I love the signing. It's a steal. (If he ever turns into a CF, it would be an even more amazing steal) But lets not give Ryan too much credit. He is getting paid $45 million. And the no trade clause prevents him from being traded to a non-contending team should things go wrong.
  14. I always wondered what happened to Jeff Allison.
  15. Buying out two years of FA = Crazy Awesome Buying out one year of FA = Good, not great I would love to lock up Hart next. Prince would be OK to lock up, but I doubt he will do it. And frankly, given his body type and poor defense - I could live with LaPorta or Gamel as our 1B of the future. Weeks, Hardy, and Hall all have little value to me. I would continue to build around Braun, Hart and Yovanni.
  16. Thanks Pitch. I didn't see the older topic. Boston is a tough place to play. Dice K, Wakefield, and Beckett is a tough match-up. I love Gamel, but I wouldn't want to put him in position to fail - and then have him wait a year before he get a chance to redeem himself.
  17. Mechanics get huge discounts on parts from part dealers. I bet the mechanic would pay about $85 for that part.
  18. Just curious what everyone was thinking in terms of DH for the Boston series. I would love to see Gamel or LaPorta for some excitement. But I don't think I would actually do it. I vote for Rickie Weeks. Counsell can start at 2B and our defense will be much improved. We don't have much power off of the bench anyways (Dillon, Gwynn or Kapler), so you might as well do your best to improve the defense.
  19. You like to think that hard work and determination pays off in the end, but sometimes it just isn't true. I feel bad for anyone who put there all into something only to face failure through no fault of their own. (Even Cubs)
  20. I have to hand it to the Brewers, that is a pretty clever promotion. It will likely only mean $10 or so off, but still makes for an exciting promotion.
  21. Thanks for the feedback. Unprofessional opinion or not, I am always interested to hear what people think when they see some of the younger Brewers.
  22. That list doesn't have much "prospect" power at all. I would be surprised if more than one ended up an above average outfielder.
  23. Just curious... Anyone have handy who the Athletic's got when they traded Mulder and Hudson? Hudson has worked out very well for Atlanta. And Mulder worked out pretty well for the Cardinals. (They did win a World Series after that trade)
  24. Exactly. Casual baseball fans in Milwaukee often boo. (They are often drunk at the time and prone to make a scene) Miller Park is better with 30,000 fans during the week who know what is going on that 45,000 on a Friday night who are half drunk.
