  1. Because DeFelice is simply terrible against lefties. Just awful. Cards have a bench loaded with lefties who LaRussa would have ran out there.
  2. What a choke job by the whole team except Manny and prince.
  3. Er, yeah. I would just assume send DeFelice out the next inning against Molina and then make the Cards pull their struggling lefties off the bench.
  4. From TH's twitter: @Haudricourt: Infielder Bill Hall is not on the Brewers' bench today. He left because of a death in the family
  5. I can't say I disagree on your sentiments about McGehee regressing, but until he proves he's not hot anymore, he's the best guy to hit No. 5 until Hardy, Cameron or Hart decide to show up.
  6. Just got back to my desk to check on the game for the first time. 38 pitches for Manny and 29 for strikes? For those watching, that is actually Parra on the mound, right?
  7. Fair point. No, it wasn't. But I've also worked at smaller newspapers and the critical e-mails, as long as they weren't nuts or out of line, typically got addressed unless we got a ton of the same one's over and over. More so than the positive ones to be honest.
  8. I'm definitely not saying Meeks walks as good as Bell, but they believe he has the size, desire and athleticism to be the defender/three-point shooter-type. That's exactly the kind of guy I think you are looking for with a second round pick. I'll be very interested to read the reports about his play in Vegas.
  9. My wife has written to Jim Stingl and gotten a response the same day, and I've heard that Kane will engage some readers. It all depends. I think you would be surprised how much columnists/journalists read and how it influences them.
  10. You started this thread to make Hunt look like a jerk, and now you've really only succeeded in bringing that judgment on yourself. His argument may have not been open and shut, but based on the team's recent performance - the OPS has remained good but the run scoring has been awful - it's not a crazy argument to make. He shouldn't of used BA as his methodology, true, but everything else is just his pure opinion. I'll never understand why people get so bent out of shape about that.
  11. Just to be clear, that was quickly refuted by Bernie Miklasz who also covers the Cards and is a columnist for the Post-Dispatch: no. The person who told @JoeStrauss that has no authority to make or influence such a deal.
  12. On the bright side, the Cardinals perform badly against lefties (or at least their fans believe so). LHPing is to St. Louis what SPs making their big-league debuts are to Milwaukee.
  13. Three at the same time! Is that a record? I'm glad to see this. Narveson was terrible.
  14. I get what you're saying. If we were talking about trading just about anybody besides Braun and Fielder, I would agree. But getting a bunch of prospects - particularly pitching prospects - I have no interest in. Fielder is a bonafide MVP-caliber player. I think you're right that pitching is greater than hiting most of the time, but not with guys like Prince and Braunie. I just don't think you can get the value back; not even close.
  15. I would bring in DeFelice here, Hoffman doesn't have it. EDIT: Never been happier to be wrong!
  16. This is turning into a nightmare. He's not even close right now.
  17. Homer mentioned some kind of hand gesture during his show today. Didn't hear the specifics.
  18. Todd Wellemeyer vs. RHs: .698 OPS Todd Wellemeyer vs. LHs: 1.005 OPS
  19. That might be one of the best posts I've ever seen on this board. Other than I think Hart's value is too low to be included in the deal, I really can't argue with your logic. Nice job. I hope Melvin is reading this.
  20. Agreed. To me it would take the Brewers obviously not being in contention going into or in the middle of his last season. Prince is an incredible MVP quality talent. You get as much time out of the player that you can get. You will never get equal value in the trade because there are so few players that are that valuable.
