  1. And that would be why Weeks doesn't bunt for more hits -- he can't bunt. Edit: Rickie follows it up by lining one into left for a leadoff single. Somewhere, Tom Haudricourt is going "yeah, but he doesn't bunt for enough hits!"
  2. C - Kendall 1B - Fielder 2B - Weeks 3B - Blalock/Hall platoon SS - Hardy LF - Braun CF - Cameron RF - Hart If so much of the money coming off the books wasn't going towards the rotation and bullpen, I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers make a run at Orlando Hudson at second base, but then you'd have to figure out what to do with Weeks.
  3. Anyone care to tell Brian Anderson that Brandon Moss wasn't the "prize" for Pittsburgh in the Bay-Ramirez trade? That's like saying Jeff Karstens was the prize of the Nady/Marte trade.
  4. At the risk of SPOILERS... ...apparently a very good night for Team USA track tonight.
  5. Considering the Cubs' +170 run differential, I'd say they're the better team overall. Fortunately, the Brewers have been able to win a ton of close games that could have easily gone the other way. If we're going to talk about how the Cubs have so many players playing above their heads, we should also note that guys like Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and Kosuke Fukudome have been underperforming. Rain delay in St. Louis with 2 outs in the top of the 9th.
  6. This one smells like a 9-8 game to me, with neither starter doing well. Suppan's had a habit of giving up a ton of HR's lately, but hopefully he can avoid giving up the longball tonight.
  7. At this rate, I'm pretty scared that 93 wins won't do it. With every Cubs and Cards win, it's looking like it'll take close to 100 to win the division and 95 to win the wildcard. It'd be interesting to see how many people would think a 93-95 win season without a trip to the playoffs would be a failure (even though the odds of that happening are extremely slim).
  8. From what I've heard, the age requirement isn't to protect young girls from the rigors of gymnastics -- it has more to do with younger girls having more of a competitive advantage. Gymnastics has always been a sport in which it always benefits you to be younger than your competition...when you're younger, you're more flexible and you're lighter, allowing you to do the maneuvers more easily. When you're talking about young female gymnasts, you also add in the wildcard of puberty -- a 16 year old has to deal with wider hips than a 12 year old, among other things. When you hear the gymnastics experts talk about the subject, they also bring up the idea that when you're 12, you deal with the pressure of the Olympics a lot better, partially because you can't really comprehend how much pressure is there. That's not a theory that I personally buy, but I guess I could see how a 16 or 18 year old would second-guess themselves or would be more self-conscious of their performance.
  9. Well, at least the Phillies beat the Dodgers. It'd be nice to gain ground on Philly, but anything that keeps the Dodgers out of the playoffs after that last series would be fine by me.
  10. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e329/petros42/Borat-VeryNice.jpg Too bad the Cards are walloping the Braves right now, but a win is always good.
  11. Bill Hall kinda stinks at third. If I still wasn't in shock about that 6-run inning I'd probably be more upset about that.
  12. Cam Boogie only hits solo home runs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. God bless the Pirates. How does Sanchez not see Braun taking off when he was taking his sweet time throwing to first, especially when he was playing in?
  14. Hooray merry-go-round offense! Another double, this time Braun. How about another, Prince?
  15. Rickie RBI triple! That'll make up for leaving guys on 2nd and 3rd a little bit.
  16. He must've heard you -- Cameron's hitting 6th, Hall 7th. That bottom third is pretty crappy with Hall, Kendall, and the pitcher's spot, though. I love how Davey Nelson tries so hard to soften the blow when he says something negative on the pregame show, but ends up doing the exact opposite. They were talking about Hall going 0-4 with 4 K's in his last start, and he said something like "Billy probably starting thinking too much after the first two strikeouts, and he ended up with four...he...never really came close to hitting the ball, though."
  17. So because he's misplayed two or three balls this year that let in runs, he's not a good defender? He's still the Brewers' best defender, and the ground he's capable of covering has gone a long way in making Ryan Braun look like a decent outfielder. How is it his fault that there's nobody on base when he hits his home runs? It wouldn't happen so much if Hart had a decent OBP and Ned wasn't so fascinated with batting Counsell 6th.
  18. Trisha Takinawa: Here comes Mayor Adam West himself. Mr. West, do you have any words for our viewers? Mayor Adam West: Box, toaster, aluminum, maple syrup... no I take that one back. I'm gonna hold onto that one. Chris: Hey little dude, how about some ice cream? Stewie: Yes I could go for a frozen treat right about now. But no sprinkles. And for every sprinkle I find, I shall kill you.
  19. Quagmire: Hello, 911? It's Quagmire. Yeah, it's caught in the window this time. Peter: If you could be stranded on a desert island with any woman in the world, who would it be? Quagmire: Taylor Hanson. Joe Swanson: Taylor Hanson is a guy. Quagmire: [Laughs] You guys are yankin' me. "Hey, let's put one over on Quagmire." Peter: No, he's actually a guy, Quagmire. Quagmire: What? That's insane. That's impossible. [Pause] Quagmire: Oh God. Oh my God. I've got all these magazines. Oh God. Judge: I'm sentencing you to 24 months in prison. Lois: Oh no! Brian: Oh no! Chris: Oh no! Meg: Oh no! Kool Aid Guy (bursting through the courthouse wall): OOOOOOOH YEAAAAAAH!
  20. Rock Lobster!
  21. That Sabathia photo is the way it is on JSOnline. My guess would be that they photoshopped it a bit to make CC more visible in the shadow, because it certainly doesn't look legit. I imagine the photo came out a bit darker than what would be considered usable, so they lightened it up a bit.
  22. I'm pretty tired of a lot of writers thinking "Gee, he strikes out a ton, so he must be really impatient." You'd think Adam Dunn would prove that the guys who strike out the most are often the guys who are too patient because they'll go down looking on 2-2 or 3-2. Instead, we still get broadcasters and writers who are amazed that Dunn walks as much as he does. I love how Witrado apologized in the latest mailbag for screwing up the draft pick question last week, saying he still doesn't know all the rules of the game. How does a guy get hired as a beat writer if they don't know stuff like that? Even if you were able to get hired without knowing everything about the game, once you got the beat writer gig, wouldn't you want to study up to make sure you knew as much about your beat as possible? And considering that the mailbag columns aren't live chats, if you weren't sure about something, why would you just make something up instead of actually researching the answer to the question? Oh well. At least Witrado didn't start the answer to the question with "Listen, hotshot..."
  23. Please clarify what you mean by antiSheets. This thread was originally about wether we should bring him back next year. I say no for many reasons, but I also think we will miss him next year.I wasn't specifically referring to anyone in this thread, just the vocal minority in the Brewer fanbase that has always thought that Sheets has been stealing money from the Brewers and isn't worth a big contract because he doesn't win games. I was talking more about the people who call into radio shows or leave comments on JSOnline (and quite a few members of my family http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif), not bf.net posters. Even though I think Sheets is a very very good pitcher that will be missed, I agree that it wouldn't be wise to re-sign him long-term for the money he'll demand.
  24. Arroyo hurt the Brewers more with his 2-run double than he did on the mound. He only went 6 innings or so, IIRC.
  25. Cubs lose, Cards expand their lead on Pitt to 10-2. Here's to hoping Colorado beats the Dodgers so the Brewers can gain ground on someone behind them tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
