  1. Ugh...this sucks. They did okay without Yo to start the season, though, so hopefully they can continue to get good production out of Parra and Villanueva.
  2. Keep it close against Oswalt and win it against the bullpen. I'm definitely not expecting a high-scoring game, but anything can happen in that Little League ballpark.
  3. Nelson or Branyan would make sense, but I've got a feeling they're going to end up giving guys like Braun and Prince "half" days off by DHing them. As much as it would sicken me, I could see Ned DHing Braun and starting Kapler/Gwynn in left.
  4. I believe Red Sox fans started calling him "The Windmill" during his stint as their third base coach before coming to Milwaukee. I've definitely had some questions about some of his decisions, but there are only a few that I whole-heartedly disagreed with (sending Hardy home on the play that broke his ankle two years ago, for one). I think every team has their fair share of "why the heck did you send him??" plays every month, so I'm not too worried yet about this season.
  5. At least Kerry Wood isn't the Brewers' closer. 4/7 in save chances so far. Gagne's 8/12.
  6. Keeping Yo in after he was clearly injured was incredibly short-sighted. If he misses any extended period of time because of this, Yost should be fired the day Yo hits the DL. You don't risk your best young pitcher's future for a win on May 1st. I don't care who you're playing.
  7. Well, it probably won't get much worse this season. Hopefully they can bounce back from this like they bounced back from the Verlander no-hitter last year.
  8. I'm mildly disappointed that the Cubs couldn't put an even 20 on the board. It's games like these that make me wish that MLB.TV showed postgame press conferences. How long do you think everyone will sit in silence once Yost gets up to the podium before someone has the guts to say something like "So....Braun hit the ball well tonight..." instead of actually asking Ned what he thought of Suppan and Turnbow?
  9. Apparently you are allowed to get the first batter of the inning out. Huh. You learn something every day.
  10. There is definitely going to be a bench-clearing brawl by the end of the series.
  11. The best part of the Oswalt trade rumors is the proposed deals by Yankees fans. Listening to the call-ins on Mike and the Mad Dog the other day was hilarious -- "Why wouldn't the Astros take Melky Cabrera, Jose Tabata, and a pitcher? They'd be CRAZY to turn that down!"
  12. The "real" season starts tonight...assuming Ben's actually healthy and can go more than 5 innings, this is the first time the Brewers will have their real starting lineup on the field at the same time. Of course, if Cameron goes 0-4 and Sheets throws 90 pitches in 4 innings against the Cubs of all teams, Brewerfan will probably implode.
  13. Barry Zito turned in his worst performance of the year last night (and that's really saying something) against the Reds, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits in 3 full innings. He's now already 0-6 with an ERA of 7.53 and a 1.95 WHIP. Mike Maroth is the last pitcher to lose at least 20 games, losing 21 for the pitiful 2003 Tigers. Considering how horrible Zito's been so far (he's pitched 6 innings only twice so far and has 15 walks compared to 11 strikeouts) and how bad the Giants offense is on the rare times he pitches well, does he have a legitimate chance to lose more than 20 games this year? Could he hit 20 losses before September?
  14. The worst part is that Wes Helms won't get another hit until he plays the Brewers again.
  15. Which member of the bullpen is going to walk the go-ahead run into scoring position this inning? Seth McClung? Great.
  16. Somebody really needs to get it through Braun's skull not to swing at everything. That was a pathetic AB.
  17. I think that's the furthest Gwynn's hit it all year.
  18. Jeez, the crowd sounds dead considering the winning run is in scoring position.
  19. Winning homestand, please. Isn't Nolasco one of the young pitchers that Joe Girardi nearly ruined?
  20. The "easy schedule" thing will even out by the end of the year. If I remember correctly, the Cubs are in line to have a pretty brutal September schedule compared to the Brewers. The day game thing is pretty weird, though...I don't ever remember the Brewers playing this many day games early in the year.
  21. Leadoff doubles should never be stranded. Ugh.
  22. There's a thread over at Lambeau Leap about the Draft if you guys want to talk about it there: http://lambeauleap.yuku.com?topic=616 Let's try to keep the Packers talk out of a Brewers game thread, even though the Brohm pick is pretty exciting. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Here's something that I didn't know -- Mark Hendrickson actually played in the CBA for the La Crosse Bobcats in 1998 in between NBA stints. Wikipedia is a wonderful thing.
  24. NICE GRAB BRAUNY! Wow...maybe he'll actually be above average in LF someday. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Tonight should probably silence the "Mota For Closer" crowd. All of these extra inning games are catching up with the bullpen...everyone's so worn down that they're either incapable of throwing strikes, or if they do throw strikes, it's right down the middle.
