  1. I'm counting 07, 08 and 09. All years in which the Brewers started hot, then had meltdowns that made making the playoffs questionable (despite remaining "in contention"). And yes, I don't see them getting the lead back this year either. The Brewers were 80-56 on the morning of September 1. They, far and away, held the 2nd best record in the NL. Yes, they collapsed for three weeks, but you're failing to recognize the way they came through in the clutch during the final 7 games. Teams go on hot and cold streaks. Keep in mind that the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals lost 10 or 11 games in a row in late September -- I think that's true, although I can't say for certain. Contenders have "meltdowns" all the time -- that's part of the game. Plus, in 2007, the Cubs were playing like the best team in baseball for 2-3 months -- they were on quite the hot stretch from early June through August. Edit: And, props to Crew07. Well said.
  2. I lol'd at this comment: I will take Garret Jones @ 1b over Prince any day

  4. Exactly. Or maybe Vasquez pitches around Prince. There's no way to know if he gives Prince something to hit...kind of like the butterfly effect.
  5. I don't think you can look at it that way. If Lopez stays on third, you can't assume that the same result occurs.
  6. Agreed. You very rarely see a knock-out, drag-out brawl where punches are thrown. People had to be physically restrained, and I think that's certainly interesting and worth discussing.
  7. They continue to cut paychecks for Skip Bayliss, and the rest of the dolts on that insufferable "First Take" morning show. I was watching "Sports Nation" at Buffalo Wild Wings today, and I believe one of the poll questions asked viewers for their favorite pet. Plus, ESPN Classic is a shell of its former self. If you want to watch reruns from the World Series of Poker, World's Strongest Man, and the PBA Tour, that's your network. They never play old NFL highlights or MLB/NBA/NCAA classic games like they used to. They've also butchered Monday Night Football and their coverage of the NBA pales in comparison to Turner's and NBC's. Plus, the picture quality of the events they air on ABC flat-out sucks. It sounds like they're bidding for the 2016 Olympics. IMO, that could be a very bad thing.
  8. Man, if not for Pujols, Prince is the MVP. He's absolutely in the zone right now.
  9. FWIW, the Packers were on broadcast TV, while the Brewers were on cable. Probably doesn't make much of a difference, but still counts for something.
  10. Remember Anastasia back in 2002? Yeah, that pretty much set the tone for that night. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  11. When do they manage to perform "O Canada"? During the commercial break?
  12. Meh, it was good-natured booing. I think Lilly got a kick out of it.
  13. Good job, Prince. "Prince Fielder" is the #2 most-commonly searched term on Yahoo! today.
  14. Agreed, crewcrazy. I'd be more worried about Braun participating in this event than Fielder. Prince will be fine.
  15. They want 4 AL players and 4 NL players, so that excludes Braun. Hopefully Pujols hits 60 homers and screws up his swing for the rest of the season.
  16. Bummer that the E5 ruined his perfect game. While a no-hitter is very special, a perfect game has only occured 17 times and arguably is the rarest feat in American sports. Sanchez's no-hitter was the eighth no-hit, no-walk, no-hit batsman no-hitter since 1883, and the first since 1990.
  17. Grr. Woulda been nice to have a lefty for the first two hitters.
