  1. but how many of you that said you would root for the Cubs go to the Brewers/Cubs games at Miller park each year? Maybe that will explain some things. I go to many of those games. I really hate the Cubs -- I think they're a rather pathetic franchise (as a Brewer fan, I really shouldn't be talking). But clearly, they're a really good team. They have a 5 game advantage in the standings. I'd rather have them destroy St. Louis, solidifying the Brewers' playoff position. And it's not like I'm rooting for them. I'm a casual observer of this series. It won't ruin my day if the Cubs lose. And yount19, I definitely feel the same sentiments regarding the Cubs fans' attitude towards Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Brewers. Heck, at one of the games last week, I saw a Cubs fan wearing a shirt that said: "Brewer fans: sausage races don't win pennants!" I know, that's a joke, considering the Chicago Cubs haven't been to the World Series since the end of World War II. But that's the general smugness exuded by many of their fans. It makes me sick -- but I'm a Brewer fan before I'm an anti-Cub fan. And that means I want them to make the playoffs more than anything -- even if that means that Cubs fans can wallow in glory because they won a few games over St Louis.
  2. The Houston @ Milwaukee game on Monday, August 18 has been added to the ESPN schedule
  3. No doubt. Go Cubs Go. The Brewers have three games this weekend at home versus the worst team in baseball. If the Cubs can sweep, which is unlikely, the Brewers can pad their lead. I hate the Cubs, but I want to make the road to the playoffs as easy as possible.
  4. Two blurbs in this week's SI (Aug 11) regarding the Brewers & end-of-season free agents, courtesy of BP's Joe Sheehan: Ben Sheets: High risk, high reward -- a bet the Texas Rangers can make; also Mets, Astros Francisco Rodriguez: Would fill Brewers' gaping hole at closer; also Diamondbacks, Braves I'm drooling at the thought of Francisco Rodriguez, but he'd likely be the only free agent Mark A. could pick up, considering the arby raises that are due, and Franscisco's enormous price tag
  5. Bill is drooling at Rickie's opposite field hit. "That's just a tremendous piece of hitting by Rickie Weeks."
  6. The more I think about this, the more unrealistic I think it is. I bet the Brewers hitters freeze up when they think "oh wow, this game is being viewed by 8% of the nation! I better hit 2 homers with Matt Vasgersian and Eric Karros calling this game!" I couldn't find a way to pin this on Yost -- plus, the record is pretty close to .500.
  7. I didn't know where else to add this tidbit: The Milwaukee @ LA Dodgers game on August 17 has been added to the TBS schedule.
  8. I have no problem with what Prince said to Manny. It's understandable. But we all saw what could have happened Manny. Look at what happened to Gallardo. He landed awkwardly trying to avoid Reed Johnson/Prince -- that was enough to tear his ACL. There's no doubt that Manny could have gotten hurt. There was no need let the situation escalate. I don't believe he should be suspended -- why hurt our chances of winning? Lord knows that every game counts. Hopefully he mans up, apologizes in front of the entire team, and takes a hurtin' in the wallet. he grabbed his jacket and hat. In the heat of the moment I understand why Prince took it the way he did Did Manny throw his own jacket and hat or Prince's jacket and hat? It's kind of unclear. It shouldn't matter -- sometimes you lose your composure. It's one thing if you throw an object to the ground. It's quite another to attack another person.
  9. I'd bet good money that there are words exchanged in every major league dugout many times during a season. You don't see these types of scuffles too often, though. Most guys keep their composure and combat words with words or simply let it go. Nothing Manny said, short of something pretty extreme, warrants a violent reaction. It's all fun and games until someone breaks a Manny Parra. Very well said. I think the attitudes here would be vastly different if Parra was injured.
  10. Sorry, but that type of behavior is completely unacceptable. Prince lost his temper on Thursday and now this. It reeks of immaturity. I don't care what Manny said; blindsiding somebody is dangerous, especially your pitcher who is integral to your playoff chances. Sure, flareups in the dugouts are understandable, but flareups in a public forum are open game for questioning and scrutiny -- I'm looking at you, Ned Yost. If Prince had caused Manny to tear up his knee, would Ned have the same attitude? This isn't another case of "boys will be boys." Major League players are valuable commodities. Plus, Prince has let his anger get the best of him three times this week already. Prince, it's time to act more grown up.
  11. And if I have to vent about something, it's that the Journal-Sentinal published a letter from someone accusing Sheets of having a big ego. Ben? HUH!? The letters in the Sunday morning sports section are notoriously ridiculous. I swear they publish the most laughable letters they receive. Earlier this season, somebody wrote that the Brewers "need to play players like Gwynn and Counsell" if they wish to play at a championship level. Reading those letters is a Sunday morning treat.
  12. 1. Braun -- I had a chance to meet him while in Boston. He's a really nice guy, he's extremely talented, and I love his swaggar. His # will be the next retired by the Brewers -- I really wonder how high his ceiling is. 2. Yo 3. JJ 4. Hall 5. Hart If we can resign Sabathia, he'll shoot up to Number 2. Edit: Hart's #5, not JJ again.
  13. That's really too bad His son, Chip, who I think is a very good announcer, broadcasted the TBS game this afternoon. I wonder if he knew about his father's death before the broadcast. Anyways, it's a sad day for the Braves organization.
  14. they have only batted twice this game True, but I get the feeling this is going to be a long, frustrating game, especially w/ Sheets throwing so many pitches.
  15. Three times this year the Brewers haven't been able to figure out the Rubix Cube Jorge Campillo.
  16. Ben's thrown like 19 million pitches this inning.
  17. Lineup, per TH 2B Ray Durham SS Craig Counsell LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Russell Branyan CF Gabe Kapler C Jason Kendall P Ben Sheets
  18. The opening day games on ESPN are all regionalized. I guess you could count it, but I would imagine that game was distributed to a sliver of the country.
  19. Can't remember when his hit came in that game with the Cubs It was the first HR
  20. I would look at it on a game-by-game basis, starting with last year's FOX/ESPN games: June 30: @ CHC, W 13-4 (FOX) July 21: SF, L 0-8 (FOX) Aug. 1: NYM, L 5-8 (ESPN) Sept. 21: ATL, W 4-1 (ESPN) Sept. 22: @ ATL, L 3-4 (FOX) Sept. 28: SD, L 3-6 (ESPN) Sept. 29: SD, W 4-3 (FOX) I don't know if there were more games, but by my count, they were 3-4 last year. The loss to Atlanta was the game Cordero blew. This year: May 10: STL, L 3-5 (FOX) May 17: @ BOS, L 3-5 (FOX) May 18: @ BOS, L 7-11 (TBS) July 21: @ STL, W 6-3 (ESPN) July 30: CHC, L 2-7 (ESPN) I just don't really see anything here. I blame Yost for a lot of things, but I don't think this carries much weight.
  21. The FOX games aren't on national TV. They're regionally televised by a national network. This game is only being shown in Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, Wisconsin, and St. Louis, I believe.
  22. Saved by the Bell also was in Cleveland there first year correct? I'm pretty sure the show was set in Indianapolis for the first year.
