  1. I laughed out loud at the slow-mo reaction to getting crossed up.
  2. That blurb about Pirates inside-the-parker reminded me how weird the Pirates season has been so far. Still not a single game in which either team has scored over 5 runs. The Cubs look like they have a chance to be historically bad this season and the Pirates may very well threaten some runs scored records.
  3. I wish this team had a good all-purpose infield utility man.
  4. For his next trick, Aoki will triple to the third baseman.
  5. How many days in a row can we go with a play at the plate?
  6. Best wishes, stalton. Don't startle anyone when somebody hits a homer.
  7. Good stuff. It should be noted that those number are somewhat narrowly useful in that they are premised on the idea of sample sizes needed for comparing the player to himself. Now quite often that's exactly what you want to be doing, but it also leaves open the very important questions of variance that due to the player himself (age, health and a ton of other factors).
  8. "Objection! Relevance?" would be among the first words out of my mouth with every single question at trial, provided you couldn't head off his testimony before it was even offered (at trial or otherwise). From what I've read about the Clemens thing and the presiding judge, I don't know why he'd let the thing go that far afield. Perjury cases can be tried with almost ZERO background on the broader subject matter of the statement made in most cases. The subject matter is usually irrelevant to the primary issue of whether perjury was committed. If you have to get extraordinarily specific about the subject matter in order to have an opinion about whether the statement is false in the sense necessary for a perjury conviction, you probably shouldn't be prosecuting the case in most instances. The really interesting question, as somebody noted in the JSO comments, is which side put him on the witness list?
  9. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/148316725.html Mods, if you want to move this to the post-verdict thread please do. From my perspective this is a whole different ball of wax, but it's your call. In any event, the plot thickens. There appears, from my vantage point, that there is some seriously dirty pool being played here by somebody.
  10. Pittsburgh is on a pace to score 351 runs this season which I think would be the lowest of all time, and yet for some reason the sample size doesn't bother me in that case. They're also on pace to finish third in the division. If they improbably pulled off both feats it would, in many ways, be one of the most remarkable seasons in baseball history.
  11. Dillard had to strike him out with 4 strikes, too. Ump missed the 3rd pitch of that AB.
  12. No matter how this ends up it's been a heck of an early-season series. Not perfect baseball, but pretty high-level and the imperfections have only added to the appeal of the games.
  13. Wright is one of those guys that I know is still in MLB every season, and yet I'm surprised when I see him in MLB every season. Seems like a lifetime ago that he was a Brewer.
  14. It was such an ugly slide that he tricked the ump. To much to track when he's rolling in like that with legs everywhere. This evens out the missed call on Braun at second last night.
  15. Not a good throw, but doesn't Ellis just have to go get that ball and give up on the out? It didn't look completely uncatchable.
  16. Tonight's jut-for-fun O/U bet: Greinke's slowest pitch at 62.5 mph. Can't be a winning streak if you don't get the second one, Crew.
  17. Thought Joe did a nice job on the call of the walk-off last night. You can hear it with the video at MLB.com. I'm in agreement with a lot of the comments in general. He is very much a smooth, professional sounding voice. Maybe that's partly why he can seem like he's putting you to sleep at times. That said, I think you have to give the guy time to settle in to the job and get comfortable. When you're comfortable with the team and the surrounding people you can sort of let 'er fly a little bit more in a natural way at times. It's a fine line to walk. Having that professional delivery is both a gift and a developed talent. I'd rather have a guy who at least has that capability than just some yahoo with no real skills other than unfiltered enthusiasm. He's got a big shoes to fill, but a lot of the broadcasters that have come through Milwaukee have. We've been very fortunate as Crew fans to have the talents we've had come through this market.
  18. I'll be happy if he just extends it. I really thought GoGo was getting better before he got hurt last year. It looks like he might be on the upswing. Not in a huge way, but he finds ways to contribute in the situations presented. Nice working the walk for Gamel.
