  1. On another topic, can't wait to see how unlucky Greinke is tonight. My guess is a minimum of 8 Ks vs 1 or 2 walks, with 5ER allowed.
  2. I think he's been under the radar because it seems like a lot of his best work has been somewhat irrelevant to the outcome of games. He had the 3 homer game, which was nice, but in essence he "used up" 25% of his homers in a game where the team "didn't need" all of them. His RISP BA is very low (.214) and his RISP OPS is 50 points worse than McGehee's. Just another one of the guys in the "nobody other than Fielder, Braun, Weeks and Morgan" group. Not that he's sunk to the depths of most of the others, and he'd be fine if others were pulling their weight, but at this point the team needs at least one more hitter to change the equation to at least 5 pullers vs 4 dead-weights.
  3. JJ's at the point in his career (given both his past and projections of his future) where 20+ million guaranteed probably overrides calcualtions of the probability that he'll be on a contending team. And there is no guarantee that he won't be (thought it is extraordinarily unlikely in that division).
  4. I agree the goal of finding a LOOGY is worth pursuing. I just don't understand the thought process behind simply recycling the same few guys in-house as opposed to just sticking with the best pitchers you have and then improvising in those situations where a LOOGY might be of use. Somehow, back in the mists of time, the games went on without LOOGYs. It's certainly better to have a good one. I just don't beleive it's worth a roster spot to have a bad one.
  5. If only they could pitch to themselves.
  6. I'll worry about a lefty in the pen when I think the Brewers are getting enough good play at the other 8 positions for it to matter. There just seems to be way too much overthinking going on with respect to some issues and a lack of willingness to take risks on others. The Brewers are not a deep organization. To me the way to handle this roster is fairly simple: You start with the best X number of pitchers in the organization at the big club, filling in X with whatever number of pitchers you want on the roster. Right now that list is roughly (in no particular order): Gallardo, Marcum, Greinke, Wolf, Narveson Axford, K-Rod, Hawkins, Saito, Loe, Estrada, McClendon I don't see what added value Braddock or Dillard or Stetter bring other than simply being leftys (or a guy with an allegedly tough deleivery for lefties in Dillard's case). Is that one attribute enought to put them on the roster? None of the lefties have proven to be an asset. Why carry one on the books just to have one?
  7. Three to four years of data also obscures the main question regarding THIS team. The team 2 years from now will be different from this year's team. Different enough that what it does on the road probably will have very little to add in terms of providing insight about what is happening now, even in retrospect.
  8. Sadly, if the Brewers play to their established percentages, 3-8 is right on the mark for this trip.
  9. If the Brewers play at their current season-long pace for the rest of the road trip, they'll end up going home at 52-51.
  10. If it's any consolation, Twins proving that they can make just as bad a mess of a good situation as the Brewers on the basepaths.
  11. Has anyone done the research to find the worst road-winning percentage to ever win a division?
  12. In other, more exciting games, Matt Capps just blew another save for the Twins, coughing up a 2-run bomb to lose a 1-0 lead.
  13. I agree that he's a little slow running, but his swing looks fine. The calf didn't make him swing at that pitch a foot off the plate. Braun at 80% is fine, we need him.I think the upper half looks fine, but it looks to me like his bottom half is just a bit out of synch. Wish I had video capability to compare. Seems like something is just "off" a bit, like he's more arms with his swing than he normally is.
  14. This is normally the time I'd redirect my boredom and blow a bunch of money playing online poker mostly due to being in a terrible, overaggressive mindset but the government took that away from me. Guess I'll have to invest in a new speed-bag for the basement.
  15. Braun is not healthy. Not even close. He's running at about 80% and the calf is affecting his swing. Given how poorly everyone else iin the division is playing I don't know why they just didn't DL him. There is a fair chance he won't be right all year because he keeps playing on it.
  16. Tulo just missed that. Yuni never would have gotten out of his stance.
  17. I posted in a game thread just before Braun got hurt that his hit streak might be the most exciting thing Brewer fans have to look forward to by the end of July. Turns out I was wrong, but only because the entire Central Division refuses to do anything to assert themselves. Now let's see Braun extend his streak.
  18. Pirates announcers noting that first place is just 4 Brewer innings away.
  19. Normally I'd feel uneasy about switching away from the Brewers to watch a different baseball game that isn't a no-hitter in progress or some such. But no qualms at all about doing it tonight and probably for most of this road trip. Reds batting, bottom 9.
  20. Scores Cards 5 @ Reds 4 Top 9 Pirates 3 @ Astros 0 Bot 7 If all results currently hold, hello 3rd place.
  21. Hey, at least the Brewers have now batted one more than the minimum! Small steps.
  22. Tulowitzki makes more good plays in a season by himself than all 9 Brewer defenders combined.
