  1. We weren't forward thinking enough last winter to try out a guy who moves like a 70 year old man with arthritic knees at 2B.
  2. For those wondering, Cuddyer had a -12 DRS in 532 innings at 2B.
  3. Ball's going to be at the base while he's 10 feet away with how slow he is.
  4. Well that terribly overrated player still has 20 bombs and 62 RBI for a terrible team. * shrug * You...you just proved his point.
  5. Playing 2nd still requires range and athleticism. Shaw lacks both. This is terrible. I didn't want Machado because of cost + defense but at least with him you knew you were getting an elite bat. Now we're getting terrible defense and a slightly above average bat. I know our 2B have been terrible but is that slightly above average bat going to make up for the absolutely horrendous defense we're going to get?
  6. I'm cool with being the bridesmaid if the groom is a 5 on looks and personality.
  7. Okay, the last Power 50 before the trades for Marcum and Greinke. Lawrie Jeffress Odorizzi Braddock Cain Rogers Peralta Rivas Heckathorn Davis (Kentrail) Scarpetta Gindl Gennett Green Komatsu Thornburg Nelson Schafer Davis (Khris) Dykstra Bucci Kintzler Dennis Lasker Butler That was the top 25 and you had Fiers come in at 31 and provide some value. Injuries ruined Rogers and Scarpetta. Odorizzi and Nelson carved out nice careers as starters. Cain and Davis became all-star/power hitting regulars. Thornburg and Jeffress turned into dominant relievers before an injury possibly ruined Thornburg. Kintzler has been a decent reliever over several years. Gennett became an all-star. Peralta had a couple of decent years as a starter and has been okay as a reliever this year. So I'm not sure how much more you're expecting out of this current top 25 but if you're expecting more than 3 all-star regulars, two above average starters, an average starter, a couple of dominant relievers and maybe a couple more average relievers, you're probably going to be disappointed in what this current group of top 25 or so prospects is going to produce.
  8. The depth of the farm system is night and day to 2011, and I think Realmuto can be resigned by the Brewers. Not really. If our farm system wasn't good then there's not a chance we would've been able to secure Greinke and Marcum. A lot of people seem to have selective memory lately of our farm system. Our farm system turned to crap because we traded for Greinke and Marcum (and because we kept drafting busts in the 1st round afterwards.) It didn't suck before we got them.
  9. He's not growing into power unless he stops hitting ground balls all the time.
  10. I think this package is pretty amazing for a rental reliever.
  11. Have we heard what that is? I don't think they're going to just give him away. They're probably going to want one of our top prospects and in that case, no thanks.
  12. Besides Jeffress, I see no pitching. I don't deny that the 2006 Top 10 was great. But that system wasn't deep whatsoever. I think you're overestimating how deep even the best systems are. The best maybe go like 15 deep. And even on the list you posted you had Parra and Villanueva who had a few decent years, Cain and Brantley were in the 30s and became all-stars and Gamel and Peralta became top 100 prospects while they were in the late 40s.
  13. Those guys you mentioned were not all in the system at the same time. Heck I could go back through the Brewers' system for the last five years and put together a mighty fine list of prospects too. I agree that those systems back then had a ton of talent, but they were top heavy, and severely lacking in top pitching talent. My argument is that, top to bottom, the current system is as deep and talented (across multiple positions, especially pitching) as it's ever been. I strongly disagree that they were top heavy and I'd rather have 3 or 4 elite prospects than like 8 "good" prospects.
  14. Not interested in Archer at the price the Rays will want.
  15. Not a chance. Thanks for contributing! That viewpoint is compelling. Right, because our current group is as talented as 2006 which included Fielder, Braun, Gallardo, Hart, Escobar and Nelson Cruz in our top 10. Go back to July of 2005 and add Weeks and Hardy to that list. This group might not even be as good as the 2009 group which had Escobar, Gamel, Lawrie, Jeffress, Cain and Lucroy.
  16. Not a chance.
  17. Hard to do something more embarrassing than air drumming to Uptown Girl.
  18. Peralta, Burnes and Ray isn't close. Sorry, that's a package that can easily be beaten and not enough to make the Mets say "yes" even if it's the best package offered.
  19. Again, is this because of the way Counsell manages or is this because our starters aren't very good and it's better to pull them an inning early than it is an inning late? You don't even need to average a full 6 innings over 34 starts to get to 200 innings.
  20. The rotation is set in the sense that they have 5 guys in it. Here's my problem. Burnes out of the pen is probably going to limit him to 110-120 innings this year. So are they going to let him go 200 innings next year or are they going to have to watch his innings again? I don't think there's much of an argument that he's one of the top 5 starters on the roster currently, so if that's the case, he should be in the rotation. There's also the entertainment factor to me. There's no entertainment in watching Anderson try to keep his pitch count under 100 in 5 innings or watch Miley walk as many as he strikes out. Burnes brings legitimate excitement about what he could possibly do now and what he could become in the future.
  21. I just went and counted the QS by pitcher. Miley - 2 out of 4 Peralta - 3 out of 7 Guerra - 7 out of 18 Wilkerson - 0 out of 1 Chacin - 6 out of 20 Anderson - 8 out of 20 Suter - 2 out of 18 Davies - 3 out of 8 Woodruff - 0 out of 4 Not that I think having a bunch of quality starts means much because I'd rather have a starter go 5.2 innings with 0 runs allowed than 6 innings with 3 runs allowed.
  22. The ERA is good because the defense is elite. There is nothing that says this is a top 5 rotation. They are mediocre at best.
  23. We are the 2nd wildcard with two teams within 2 games of us and 3 more teams within 4.5 games.
