  1. Average fan, true. But the US bought the most world cup tickets outside of Russia this year. Pretty incredible I think. We're the third largest country in the world with what should be one of the easiest roads to qualification. I don't think it's any surprise that we bought the most outside of Russia.
  2. Ortiz was throwing 88-90 in his last start.
  3. Miller Park is awful. Highlight of the game was a Sogard foul ball landing two rows in front of me so I almost got to say I caught a foul ball from a guy who claims to be a major leaguer.
  4. I'm usually one that thinks 3+ hour games aren't that big of a deal but yesterday was a snooze fest for like 99% of the game.
  5. The fact that the Nationals said no to those guys tells you it's unlikely another team gives up a top 30 or 40 prospect for Realmuto. I'm not sure we'd need to include a package led by Peralta to get a deal done...could get it done with Burnes+. The Marlins aren't going to say we'll trade him for less because another team isn't meeting our asking price. They'll keep him until a team actually does meet their asking price.
  6. Agree with those who wouldn't go any higher than a Ponce type for Happ. Rentals are just not something we should be doing.
  7. It's just a one time thing. They talked to some players, some host families, scouts, coaches etc. about what life is like in the league what scouts look for and all that stuff. It was played during the rain delay last night. It's okay, not something I would go out of my way to watch.
  8. I don't see the point in wasting time on making an offer you know is going to be rejected.
  9. Back on topic... Is this offer really that bad? Yes, I believe so. This is one of the top starters in baseball under control for several years. They're going to need a lot better headliner than Burnes and if they actually do agree to Burnes as a headliner, they're going to need at least two more Burnes caliber prospects.
  10. The only thing that offer does is get the Mets to hang up immediately.
  11. If I'm getting good prospect offers from other teams, no. If I'm not getting very good prospect offers from any team but one team is willing to take on Davis, yes.
  12. Juan Soto was called up to the majors on May 20th. Today the Nationals and Yankees completed a game that was suspended on May 15th. Juan Soto hit a home run today in the completion of the suspended game. This game goes in the books as completed on May 15th. So technically Juan Soto hit his first major league home run 5 days before he was called up to the majors.
  13. He's been bad pretty much all year.
  14. Why do people act like they know what Stearns' style is? He hasn't been here long enough to have a style. Unless you're talking about last year when we were a few games behind in the division to a better team and 5-6 games back in the wildcard and not in any position to go after a big name, especially a rental. Not saying I want to go after a rental (it's like the last thing I want Stearns to do) just saying we have no idea if he would or not.
  15. Hector Neris is to pitchers what Yuniesky Betancourt is to shortstops.
  16. It's one of the more annoying things about him and there are many.
  17. Fairly rested bullpen. Counsell goes with worst option.
  18. Well you can because it's arguable that they were desperation overpays to begin with and even if they were, the Mets have no reason to trade either deGrom or Syndergaard unless someone gives them a desperation overpay.
  19. Exactly what we need. Another out machine.
  20. I'm not so sure I'd call Ray or Supak filler. Ray will be a top 10 prospect and Supak could be close, and Supak has a lot of helium right now as he's having a good season. Both of those guys are actually. Teams tend to be more inclined to trade for prospects playing well. Prospects have generally become much more valuable, I'm not so sure it's going to take a team backing up the farm truck and sending over their top 5 prospects to get 2 years of Degrom. Replace one of them with a Medeiros or someone else of that caliber if you like, but the idea is we are sending over a near MLB ready likely mid-rotation arm(which has incredible value), 2 back end of our top 10 prospects, and a flier or 2. If you have to add someone like Phillips to the trade to get it done, fine. It's absolutely possible they prefer guys closer to mlb ready. For a comparable deal, look at the Greinke trade...and also factor in that even at the time, it was obvious we overpaid for Greinke. Prospects have generally gained value since that trade, so the prospect haul likely won't need to be as significant. We gave up Odorizzi who was in low a at the time and projected to have a ceiling of a mid rotation starter, Cain who posted solid but unspectacular numbers in the minors before trade, Escobar who had a lousy first MLB hitting season but was an elite defender, and Jeffress...who at the time was a major risk and a head case. We also brought back Yuni B. Burnes is better than any single prospect in that trade, so that alone is a trump card. Supak and Ray have a lot of upside and are in AA, so relatively high in the minors. Overall, I view my offer as relatively comparable to the Greinke deal...it might be slightly less in return but again Burnes is a better prospect right now than any of those 4 were at that time. Greinke wasn't close to as good as deGrom or Syndergaard, had less control and had the ability to choose where he went. There is just absolutely no chance we get either one with Burnes and filler and yes, Ray and Supak are filler.
  21. I'm going to constantly use our ass is in the jackpot now. I have no idea what it means but it's glorious.
  22. deGrom is one of the best pitchers in the game. They're not taking our 2nd best prospect plus some random filler. The Mets would tell us to piss off and rightly so.
  23. 37 yo runner tagging at first, and our MLB 2nd baseman doesn't know where he is? I could have been blindfolded and told you that Zobrist wasn't close to the bag. A gifted double play but a second baseman who fell asleep and wasn't focused. That said, Villar did homer previously and was about the only batter who wasn't crapping his pants against a very lame Quintana who would have a 7.0 ERA minus the brewer games. He's got his back turned waiting for the ball. Why would you think he knows where he is? When he has Arcia screaming tag! tag! tag! at him I would assume that it's going to be a close play. When I was watching I was shocked at how far away from the base Zobrist was.
  24. I strongly disagree with rickh about you shouldn't sell tickets to Cubs fans or whatever but I do agree with him that if you live within reasonable distance to Miller Park then you kind of forfeit the right to complain about all the Cubs fans at Miller Park on a message board while the game is going on.
