  1. We have two guys the Pirates didn't want. A 30 year old with less than 60 innings, mediocre at best stuff and middling minor league success, a meh reliever in Torres, Feliz who has had home run problems since he came back from injury and then two good pitchers in Barnes and Knebel. It shouldn't come as any shock that this bullpen is terrible.
  2. I'll never understand hitters who swing at the first pitch after a pitcher shows no control the previous hitter. If you're swinging first pitch there it better be a fastball right down the middle or a cement mixer slider or something. Swinging at a fastball on the edge with the bases loaded is an awful decision there.
  3. I had a guinea pig named Oliver once. She was awesome. She's a better pitcher than Drake.
  4. Bill: "He's 6-1 in his last 9 starts so he's not pitching poorly." A little over 5 innings per start. Less than 2 to 1 K/BB ratio. .877 OPS against. I wish we didn't have complete morons analyzing this team.
  5. This is why that one guy arguing with me in the game thread a week or two ago about needing to keep Knebel even if we get a good offer for him was so funny.
  6. The only player I don't want is Pavin Smith. That would be so depressing at 9 overall. I could talk myself into any other player that we would pick at 9.
  7. I doubt Stearns cares much about the bullpen at this point and he shouldn't spend too much time worrying about it.
  8. My only thought on this is how FS Wisconsin is going to beat to death his stupid laugh.
  9. Why is Sophia telling us about Braun throwing from 150 feet like we're supposed to be impressed? His arm isn't hurt although maybe we're supposed to be impressed that he was able to play catch without hurting his arm.
  10. Uhh, if it hit him in the pant leg, it would've hit his leg with how tight his pants are.
  11. I wish Brian would stop acting like Adrian Gonzalez is a good hitter.
  12. Bill needs to look at a clock. 6 to 12 rotation on a curveball is impossible.
  13. Random question but does anyone know how much we offered Jemile Weeks back in 2005? I read something a couple years ago but can't find it now that we offered him $750K but that seems like a ton for an 8th round pick.
  14. Just about the last thing I'd be looking to acquire in a rebuild is players at the back end of the pen. Say the Nationals bullpen still sucks come late July and they're really desperate and want to shore up their pen for a playoff run and offer Victor Robles and a lotto ticket like Jesus Luzardo for Knebel and say Torres. Are you really going to turn that down? And yes I'm fully aware that the Nats wouldn't include Robles in a package for pretty much anyone but say they're desperate enough to actually do it. I would hope Stearns would accept that trade in an instant because he knows having a potential all-star outfielder along with a SP lottery ticket is far more valuable than a couple of relievers.
  15. A QO by the time he's a free agent will probably be $20 million if not more. It would be ridiculous to risk paying that to a reliever. I would constantly be cycling through relievers with trades whether we were rebuilding or contending. They just don't have enough value and are too erratic to hold onto them for any length of time. John Axford had a couple of years like Knebel is having and turned into a replacement level player afterwards.
  16. You absolutely trade Knebel if someone makes you a good offer. He wasn't good last year, walks quite a few guys and isn't going to keep his 94% strand rate. If some team is willing to overpay for 50-60 innings of relief, I say let them.
  17. It's more annoying that Brian switches without any rhyme or reason from Pena to Pina. Like, how do you pronounce a guy's name two different ways minutes apart?
  18. He's a 31 year old journeyman who had a hot week. He should be getting almost no playing time.
