  1. Vince Velasquez, who the Phillies picked up (along with a ton of other prospects) in the Ken Giles trade just threw a complete game 3 hitter against the Padres, walking 0 and striking out 16. I couldn't believe Houston gave up as much as they did for a reliever and it's already paying dividends for the Phillies.
  2. Three people predicted it in the predictions thread. Many more said they would win 70+ than they would lose 100. In fact, you predicted 94 losses, one of the higher loss totals in that thread.
  3. I mean, didn't they just do that with Pena? No. They have had Pena in the system for years and pretty much know what he is capable of, and he is a fringe bullpen guy. And if you read earlier in the thread it sounds like the Brewers were in talks to acquire Freeman before Pena had his one outing, so that probably had little consequence on the decision to drop from the 25 man. I'm going to disagree. If Pena doesn't blow up against the Giants, he's still on the roster. They're not DFAing him if he goes 3 scoreless innings whether they acquired Freeman or not.
  4. And people say the Brewers are bad at baserunning. Holy crap the Astros are awful.
  5. Well there's really no time to react to where the ball is going to go, so it is luck.
  6. Hell of an arm by the dude who got that one back on the field.
  7. Peralta's problem is mediocre control, bad command and the lack of a third pitch.
  8. This is most likely the answer. Last year through 5 games he hit .400/.471/.667/1.138. Through 11 games he hit .350/.381/.475/.856. By the end of the month he was hitting .279/.303/.360/.664.
  9. He was an above average hitter last year as a 23 year old. Hill is done offensively. Other than 200 sporadic at bats the last couple of years (with a bunch of bad at bats in between) Nieuwenhuis has never been a good hitter either.
  10. I love how veteran scrubs like Hill and Nieuwenhuis get to bat higher than a young guy with a decent bat in Villar. RF Domingo Santana 2B Scooter Gennett LF Ryan Braun C Jonathan Lucroy 1B Chris Carter CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis 3B Aaron Hill P Wily Peralta SS Jonathan Villar
  11. I think the rule in this case is stupid. It was designed to prevent really late high slides by morons like Coghlan and Utley. I didn't really see what Rasmus did as dangerous or an intent to injure an opposing player. Also, DFA Freeman. How do you regulate that though? Asking the ump to decide intent is pretty hard to do. Especially when most players try to disrupt the throw to some degree. Well, is it really that much to ask that they do? Especially when they can look at replay afterwards? Why not just make it an automatic review on plays like that? I don't like that a runner can be nowhere near the fielder (like Rasmus) and be called out because he slid past the base. That's stupid. And yeah, you can say know the rule but even if you do know the rule and you do that, do you seriously think a player is going to think they're violating a rule by doing what Rasmus did? I understand the call when Bautista did it against the Rays but that was completely different because Bautista stuck his hand out and grabbed the fielder's ankle. That's interference and an automatic double play, new rule or not. This was Rasmus sliding like 5 feet away from Gennett and just going past the base. It says a lot that Gennett seemed to think the rule, at least the way it was called tonight was stupid when the rule was put in place to protect him.

  13. Didn't predict or really care about the LCL but as I said here that looked like an ACL tear right away. Really sucks for Schwarber.
  14. Right? The way his knee twisted made me think ACL right away.
  15. Hopefully JohnBriggs is consistent and says that's where batting a guy like Gennett 2nd kills you.
  16. Matt Duffy had 0 home runs in 501 college at bats. He had 13 in 942 minor league at bats. He now has 14 in 643 major league at bats.
  17. I'm much happier about where the franchise is as a whole right now than I was a year ago. Last year it was only we need this, this, this, this and this to go perfectly and we might have a shot at a wildcard but really for this year only because other than Arcia and Lopez, we don't really have any great prospects to look forward to. I'm glad they decided to bite the bullet and go into a full rebuild instead of the put together a decent team and hope 5 or 6 things go perfectly for us to maybe get a chance to play in the playoffs.
  18. Probably not going to bite us long term but I'm on the side of wildcat here. Torres and Boyer should go before Pena and yes I know Pena was awful yesterday but he at least has a chance to be a decent bullpen piece/trade asset at some point. Would rather just roll with some young guys than old scrubs like Torres and Boyer.
  19. I'm okay with this. Nelson looked really good. Just looking forward to watching the few good players we have remaining on the team plus other players I like when they come into town. Really excited to follow the minors this year.
  20. It was a mass exodus after Span homered. Then a steady flow of people leaving following the two subsequent homers. There was also a ton of booing.
  21. He hasn't been around in so long that he doesn't even know that there's a video tag now and the youtube video he linked could've been shown in this thread.
  22. Granted he's only a bench player but wouldn't Aoki technically be considered a free agent?
  23. South Americans really know how to flop and referees keep giving them the benefit of the doubt when it happens. Colombian player initiates contact with Gil, then flops without even being touched with the referee 15 feet away looking in the other direction. He sees the idiot fall to the ground, pulls out a second yellow without ever actually seeing the play and decides the game right there.
