  1. I don't want MLB to take away an entire Cards draft. They still need to field teams for their short season squads. What I want them to do is take away say the top 5 rounds of picks for the Cardinals for the next 5 years and the bonus pool money that's associated with it.
  2. We just signed Mark Reynolds. Would've preferred to just roll with Pinto.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if every player on the Brewers was on the block. It makes no sense not to have every player on the block and with what Stearns has gotten back in trades, guys in the lower levels of the minors, it doesn't seem he thinks this is going to be a 1 or 2 year rebuild.
  4. I think the problem is that Upton, Cespedes and Gordon and to a lesser extent Parra are all still available. You could get Cespedes and Parra for only money while Upton and Gordon would only cost a draft pick. Now if those guys sign within the next couple of weeks, I'd guess that Stearns makes Davis available.
  5. I'm not going to say a guy with 17 twitter followers can't break a story because I'm sure it's happened somewhere at some point. I'll just say that it would be pretty unlikely for them to be the first one with info on a potential Lucroy trade. Especially one like this that makes absolutely no sense and goes completely against everything Stearns has done since he became GM.
  6. I bet the Phillies are really hoping this report is true.
  7. The answer for me is A.
  8. This. The first year it took place in 2012 the Astros drafted Correa first overall. The value of that slot was $7.2 million. They got Correa to sign for $4.8 million. That allowed them to double the recommended bonus for the #41 pick Lance McCullers as well as Rio Ruiz and Brett Phillips.
  9. You can prefer Heyward but a team looking for a bat could see Braun as an option if they miss out on Cespedes, Upton, Gordon etc. Especially if the Brewers decide to either take a contract back or pay part of Braun's salary (say we cover the $18 million deferred or even just half of that and his buyout in 2021). That puts Braun on a 5 year, $73-82 million contract depending on how much deferred money we would cover. That's incredible value despite the PEDs and injuries. If we get offered fair value, the only potential road block I see would be his no trade clause which allows him to block deals to every team except the Dodgers (have corner outfielders), Angels (have a need but no prospects to offer), Tampa (even at 5/75 or whatever they likely won't want that salary), Marlins (combo of Angels and Rays) and Nationals (Werth and Harper in the corners, maybe Harper moves to CF or something?)
  10. I think that was definitely Luhnow's goal when he went to Houston and Stearns came from Houston. They're obviously not going to come and say we hope to be the worst team in the league but every rebuilding team strives to make the major league team bad for at least a couple of years. Whether they want it to be the worst or not is up for debate but they definitely want the team to be bad.
  11. If we're rebuilding, the goal should absolutely be getting the first pick in the draft, the slot value that comes with it and improving our minor league system and young core for what is hopefully years of contention.
  12. More than would be worth it. We have no reason to go after a mid rotation starter right now with Nelson, Peralta, Davies, Jungmann, Lopez, Pena, Houser, Hader and Garza either in MLB or close to MLB ready.
  13. I'd want one of Mazara or Brinson, Ortiz and Matuella for Lucroy.
  14. He has the plate discipline of Yuni and pitcher's exploited it.
  15. He has the plate discipline of Yuni and pitcher's exploited it.
  16. You guys had me curious so I looked it up. It was an 0-2 count and he actually hit that ball.
  17. I agree that his value isn't likely to change by the trade deadline, but the market for him will almost certainly shrink. In the offseason, you're almost always going to have more clubs building to 'win now' than you will mid-summer. Not only that but teams likely don't want a new catcher to have to learn their pitching staff midseason. I'm not sure how much of an adjustment there is but it's there and teams really seem to want to avoid that if at all possible. Also, what would happen if Lucroy were to struggle out of the gate again next year? He hit .133/.216/.178 before getting hurt. He came back and hit .278/.319/.352 in June. Better but nothing that says top 5 catcher on a bargain contract. He looked more like Lucroy in July hitting .283/.350/.424 but that only brought his season line to .253/.311/.347 at the trade deadline. Once again, not a top 5 catcher on a bargain contract. If that happens again, teams aren't going to offer the kind of value we want, in which case we either trade him for less than we could have this winter, most likely or we have to keep him and hope he heats up through the rest of the season so we can trade him in the winter when he only has a year of control remaining.
  18. I took this picture mainly to show how bad of a hitter Segura is but it also shows how bad of a catcher Schwarber is. http://i.imgur.com/Aagh1Zw.jpg
  19. Wouldn't surprise me if they signed either of those two. They were willing to go to $200 million for Heyward. They were willing to go towards that amount for Price. So they obviously have money and they're willing to spend it.
  20. Seems like Lucroy insurance to me. If they find a deal they like, it's Maldonado/Pina.
  21. Did we not already see Alvarez's value? He was non-tendered and I'm sure the Pirates shopped him around before doing so. Granted a team trading for him would have to pay his arbitration price but there's not much need or value for a platoon DH. Just go with Rogers. If he sucks, higher draft pick. If he doesn't suck, he would bring in more than Alvarez would in a trade if we decide to go that route.
  22. Jason Rogers
  23. I don't see how it doesn't make a ton of sense. It makes all the sense in the world. With how much decent relievers cost in free agency, being able to get years of cheap control on one in a trade is probably appealing to a lot of teams. I'd be shopping Smith, Knebel, Blazek and Jeffress all over, either alone or as part of a package to see what we could get.
  24. [sarcasm]Agreed. We should've traded Lind for Luis Sardinas.[/sarcasm]
